Tracking the 23 Class: Where Are They Now?

Even at DE we have had major attrition. Kelly, Acheampong, and Wayne gone from the 22 and 23 classes. I 100% agree on your overall point. Here is another thing to remember. To have a well functioning program you need a solid two deep which is 44 players. Spread over 3 or 4 classes, that means every class needs 11 contributors from it. Yes that’s a reductive breakdown but that’s the goal you are shooting for. So if you sign 25 then 8 being starters or next in line to start and have little drop should be the target which is a 33% hit rate.
exactly
DE is a position that we land multiple top 100 players on a yearly basis
thats why despite the attrition like you pointed out
the room is still deep and we just added two more blue chips there
RB is starting to look like legit depth too
so the loss of CJ and allen isnt that bad
but otherwise we dont have adequate depth anywhere else
the Oline if the projects from the past 2-3 classes start to produce like Kinsler and Frankie we can be decent but we lack major depth all across the Defense esp DT and secondary
for a guy who lives by being physical
its crazy how many jags we take at DT

Sorry if I missed it, but what's the usual hit rate on classes like this? Hard to judge without knowing that first.

But at first glance it's definitely yikes.

In my opinion some of those kids were question make to begin with though. I could have told you that a few of them were going to struggle to pan out. Chris Johnson had to get bigger and learn the craft of playing running back. He's more of a utility player. Ray Ray Joseph is a midget and can't get off press coverage. Cyrus Moss has tools but he's built like a pencil and struggles to put on mass.

Too many "developmental" guys IMO.
And thanks to the portal, the days of developing guys are gone. Sad State of Affairs were in.

I think people were saying a good bit rate was 33% and we were around 26% as of a couple of days ago ... note this was before the Washington
twins and Stafford jumped today in the portal.

A little generous with Okunlola IMO...what has he done that Horton DL hasn't done?
Both him and Ray Ray have played snaps but have not really contributed. I think Malik is a stretch to say he has contributed but sure. He has flashed here and there and had the blocked kick but it hardly warrants as a hit.

Horton has done as much as Okunlola, which makes this review questionable

By any measure you cut it, 2022 hit rate has been too low. They call it a mulligan class for a reason though.

I expect 2023 to surpass that 33% hit rate. It's not there yet. But I still believe at least a couple will emerge from Bryant, Williams, Horton, Bruno and Bobby. 2024 is still too early to call. That "epic" DL class needs to start producing next season, though.

If 25 is the number of recruits you take id say

under 5 hits is a terrible class
8 is good
10 or more is great

It also depends on what we consider hits, my first thought when watching a recruit is can he be a multi year starter here. Then its can he be good depth and crack the rotation for multiple years

I think we should at least be trying to find at least 3 star level guys in every class. So if u land 3 stars, 3 good starters, and 2 rotation players its a good class.

This is just off my first thoughts on this, haven’t done any real research
