Tracking the 23 Class: Where Are They Now?

@Rellyrell

The class analysis needs to figure in purpose and injuries.

As examples, Parrish was productive. Team wasn’t good, but he was solid. Transferred out back to Ole Miss because he was jumped over by Fletcher. I wouldn’t label him a miss. He served his purpose. I would say Mario got a lot out Parrish. Also, we never got to see Citizen because of a severe knee injury. Not a hit or miss just bad luck.

Still, your analysis is accurate and its overall conclusion.

I sympathize w/ ur post, however Citizen is considered a miss b/c he transferred out. Yes, he got injured, but by all reports he was available. Sure, he probably wasn’t the same player, but b/c he never played a down here, and wind up going elsewhere earning some PT, he’s categorized as such.

I considered Parrish a miss b/c even though he started off as the lead back & was good for us, he eventually was passed over, & transferred out again. So unfortunately, he’s no longer apart of that ‘22 class b/c he went back to Ole Miss.

Part of hits & miss is not only production, but retention.

Fair enough.

Retention is going be tough for any program in this transfer portal era. Players aren’t happy if they’re not getting playing time right away or at least after a year. Gone are the days when a player waits and works to be a starter or regular contributor and makes the most of their opportunity.

Shoot, Horton did that and leaving. Riley Williams is on of his opportunity and is leaving.

Have a great night, sir.

Yep; which is y OVER recruiting must take place. I really need this transfer portal to be reformed like yesterday though.

If 25 is the number of recruits you take id say

under 5 hits is a terrible class
8 is good
10 or more is great

It also depends on what we consider hits, my first thought when watching a recruit is can he be a multi year starter here. Then its can he be good depth and crack the rotation for multiple years

I think we should at least be trying to find at least 3 star level guys in every class. So if u land 3 stars, 3 good starters, and 2 rotation players its a good class.

This is just off my first thoughts on this, haven’t done any real research
You need to bump those numbers up. Sure 3 impact players is fine and maybe having 3 additional players that are good starters is okay but you need way more than just 2 rotational players per class. More like 6. 3 and 5 for 8 hits plus 6 or so rotational guys, whom I don’t consider hits but they ain’t trash seems about right for it to be a good class.

10/36= 27.8% hit rate as of 12/20/24

So between the classes of 2022 & 2023, which are supposed to be our upperclassmen leaders for the 2025-26 season, Mario’s HS & Portal evals are hitting at a 22.6% hit rate, which is on par with the data I provided in the “Mario Recruiter” thread during his time at UO.

He’s a 1/4.5 success rate w/ a 3/4.5 attrition/non-impact rate. I expect more portal casualties which will skew these numbers further. It’s also why for the 1st time since I started following recruiting, I was very numb b/c so far, we’re not stacking classes, we’re bleeding them.
I wish I didn't read this post.... Geezz man... 🤣🤣

he was healthy enough to dress for the bowl and didnt see any PT.

Thats where more research would be needed to form a baseline. 14/25 would be 56%. Which sounds reasonable but idk if its realistic or not

No doubt on the research but I’d like to point to that the numbers I laid out 8/25. I just don’t consider rotational players hits but I understand that it’s fluid to the level of rotational players. An example is that Wes if our LB room wasn’t a mess the last few years would be a rotational player and I would not consider him a hit.

I know it would be a lot of work because we don't know those rosters like we know our own, but I really am curious to see how this compares to the other top 10 recruiting classes. My hunch is that besides an anomaly or two, they're all probably fairly similar as far as success rate goes

I agree. I do believe players that should be able to transfer, but I also believe there should be some limitations. I’ve posted elsewhere, but I think turning scholarships into a multi year agreement is good answer. Coming out of high school a player signs scholarship offer which binds the player to the school for two, maybe three seasons. With renewal options to be mutually agreed upon.

Link revenue sharing to the scholarship offer and guarantee this money so schools don’t run players off. The player can’t transfer unless released, but is guaranteed his share of revenue. Same as guaranteed money in the NFL, just much less.

I don’t believe you can legally cap NIL so if this isn’t even an issue from me.

Collectives are a whole different kettle of worms. Not sure what I think about those. Not sure how you can regulate them.

And I firmly believe there needs to be a college football players association. No way around it. I don’t believe it in making all these rules for players yet not giving them representation and agreement.

These kids are more or less professional now anyway might as well treat them as such.
