Total Defensive Stats Under Randy Shannon

Once again how many NFL guys did Shannon coach vs Golden.. we love to omit the NFL draft from every measurable of the last horrific 12 years of UM football when it is the ultimate historical metric of this program.. The day Golden coaches as many NFLers as Shannon did, his rankings and records will be comparable if not better. Unfortunately for Golden it is taking a very long time to acquire that caliber of player due to the raging pile of **** Shannon built and left behind...

Once again, are you saying Shannon had nothing to do w developing that nfl talent on defense?
Are you saying that kids golden had for three seasons just sucked and nothing ANy coach could do would have made them ready for nfl? Are coaches not responsible for developing talent into football players? Can we strip golden of the Muhammad Wilkerson accolades too? After all coaches apparently have nothing to do with developing talent.

And my disclaimer: Randy sucked IMHO. Butch could've turned guys like Bailey and Forston into first rounders. Same w spence and maybe even McCarthy.

So spare us the talent argument in Goldens fourth year. No talent means he is incapable of developing it.

This, above all else is my biggest concern with Golden.

what is?

His development of talent. He has had a couple guys at each stop it seems, but at times I feel like all our guys are just getting bigger and not necessarily better. No I don't have any facts to back that up, just my opinion from what I've seen. With the recruiting classes we've had since he's been here, I would be disappointed if we don't have at least a second rounder next year and assuming he's still here the following year at least 1 first rounder. I feel like the best guys on this team are the ones who looked like something special from day 1. I'm waiting to see a guy who was a project on day 1 and left here a stud.

Duke will be a high pick (high for a rb, 2nd round imo), perryman, Coley and Howard if they continue to develop like they should, flowers and Feliciano, chick will get drafted more then likely...there's plenty of nfl talent imo

Shannon was a horrible head coach. Al hasn't proven to be much better. It's a scary thought that Shannon has more career wins over teams that finished the season .500 than Golden. The problem is systemic. It starts at the top with the troll.

I think Duke and Perryman will both be high picks. The problem for me is that both of them looked good from day 1. Neither really appears to have gained much as far as skill since day 1, but both have gotten a lot bigger. I feel like Perryman was underrated more than being an actual project. His growth seems more like from experience than anything else. Odogwu is a good example. If he ends up becoming something good, he was a true project from day 1.

Funny, because UVA wasn't that bad back then. If Golden could've fielded a half decent defense while there, they might have been pretty good. Even worse is he had some talented players there on defense. I'd say nearly as much talent as what we had here under Shannon and when Golden took over. Brooks and Long are likely better than anyone we had here in that time period.

The question is about what is a realistic expectation given the team talent they can attract. One could argue the job he did at UVA was veryD good considering he was doing it at UVA. A top twenty defense there a good job. It is okay for people to acknowledge that They have done good a couple of times.

A top 20 defense is good, but its an outlier for Golden. That's the problem. When this coach is supposed to be a defensive guru, you expect jumps from 100+ ranked defense to maybe top 70 by the next year and maybe even top 50 the next year. Not start at 45, then fall to the 100's and then jump back to 90's. Good coaches maintain some consistency and good coaches consistently get the best out of their underrated players (See VT, TCU, Boise St). These teams are loaded with 3 star or less players and they do just fine in most years.

I don't think you know what an Outlier is or when to know when a data point is one.

Are you sure you know what an outlier is or did you just post that to try and look smart? I know what an outlier is and I'm not about to calculate or plot points just to make a point. If it makes you feel better you can call it what you want, but I don't do stats for fun. I'll tell you in the most common terms right now is that you have a set of data points clustered in a general area right now, and then you have 2 top 20's far away from that cluster. The cluster is essentially the average or the norm and these outliers are not.

You Must Not Have Been Paying Attention In Your Statistics Class. I Can Point To A Few Reasons Why Those Top 20 Rankings Aren't Outliers. Easiest Being They Fall Between A Normal Distribution. There Is A Formula You can Use To Determine If Data Points Fall Outside The range .
Second One Being When You Have A Linear Progression That Follows A Trend You Would Be Hard Pressed To Find Any Statistician That Would Remove Those Data Points That You incorrectly Think Are Far From Their Cluster. There Are More Reasons Like Applicability Since Rankings Are Not Random Occurrences . You Can Argue That If You Are Going To Remove AnY Rankings It Would Be The Ones From His First Year Since A Lot Of Factors Outside The Control Of The DC Heavily Influence Results.

Once again, Golden fluffers are completely missing the point. NFL talent. Offensive scheme. Injuries. The Cloud. The list goes on and on. Yes, of course those things have affected our defense. But cotdang, 90th and 120th??!

Only thing that is being missed is PERSPECTIVE by the mope-a-dopes.

Wow you're delusional. Get off of Alfraud's nut sack. Gulden got you up in this bish trying to spin hard data in his favor. Can't you see this dude is pure trash? I agree that he's great everywhere else, just not on the gridiron. That's where we need him to shine......but he doesn't......he sucks....

How about comparing Shannon's 2010 defense to Goldens 2011 defense since they coached most of the same players over those two years.

All numbers are from statmilk.com

Shannon as DC

As soon as I saw the title, "Total Defensive Stats Under Randy Shannon," I knew the thread was NOT really about Randy Shannon, that it was actually about Al Golden.

Its not being an army of ******** Neal...

But why in the **** is a MIAMI defense outside of the Top 50!

That's all we're talking about here.

And we'll never win until that is fixed. Offense is not a problem at this school, and quite frankly it hasnt been a problem since Golden took over.

When the defense is good, the offense sucks. When the offense is good, the defense blows. It's like some sort of cosmic joke being played on Miami fans- a joke that has been played for about 12 fck'g years! ****'s not funny anymore.. Never was. So forgive the mopes for demanding change?

Some guys are meant to be 1's, some guys are meant to be 2's, and some guys are not meant to be in the discussion. Golden is meant to be a number one and Shannon a number two while Onofrio is meant to be not mentioned at all.
Perfect Dream Staff for our beloved U:
Golden as HC (one of the best recruiters and good motivator)
Shannon comes back as DC (more aggressive scheme, good recruiter especially in SoFla);
Don Julio James Coley as OC (great recruiter and excited to see what his O is going to do);
The God-Father Hurlie Brown as LB Coach (nuff said about his recruiting abilities);
Ken Dorsey as QB Coach O Quality Control;
Ice-Harris as RB Coach (the myth-the legend of HS football in SoFla);
Mike Rumph as DB coach;
Beard and Baez overseeing all recruiting events;
Brennan Carroll as WR coach.
This is called "Eye in the Sky" so a fan can only wish this would be our staff in 2015-2016.

Golden is not a good recruiter? Have you seen our class ranking since he's been here vs. before he got here? Have you not seen our 2016 class thus far?

Imagine if Randy Shannon didn't get fired...... Teddy Bridgewater would be our QB, along with Eli Rodgers at WR.

Do you think things would have been turned around?

You didn't say good, you said one of the best. He is decent to good, but won't be considered elite till he stops having misses at the number one position on his defense, DT's.

2016? Are you ******* serious. No one gets credit for 2 years down the road. We were supposed to have top 5 class last year, you saw how that turned out.
