Todd Blackledge: Al Golden just gets it.

I know we haven't seen the results on the field yet, but considering the crap Golden has had to deal with in his short amount of time at UM, i'd say he's done a remarkable job. It's baffling that some of you guys haven't fully jumped on board yet. I'd be shocked if he doesn't get us back to competing for titles on a yearly basis very soon.

The guys who get paid to follow the sport all see it. What's taking you "fans" so long? Just curious......

13-11 record i think. Im on board with Golden but that is his record.

Worst defense in school history. 13-11 record. Losses to Maryland, UVA, BC.

None of that means he won't be great, but none of it is indicative of greatness.

Then he went and said this:

ALSO...I love what both Jimbo and Will are doing at FSU & UF respectively. All 3 programs are heading back towards the front of the CFB pack

while I like golden, some of you have accepted mediocrity!

we're miami, we should never win fewer than 9 games! golden's w-l is indicative on a big east school. acc isn't hard! if he puts up less than 9 wins this year with our easy schedule, he should be canned!!

I don't even know what that means

are you disputing that it is below miami to have these amount of losses? that's some randy shannon type stuff. wat I see for miami is national championship in the next 3 years. less than 9 wins for miami this year is a disgrace!

It means that in the very unlikely scenario that we don't win 9 games next year, it is not going to be a reason to fire Al Golden. He is trying to repair a decade's worth of malfeasance and rot that has infected this program thanks to Coker and Shannon. The "Miami" of which you speak was almost destroyed by those clowns.

So if you are serious, you are negged. If you are trolling to get a reaction, you are negged. It doesn't appear that you are being sarcastic.

THIS! ^^^^^^
Except that Coker and Shannon DID destroy the U that we knew and loved. That's y its taken so long to come back. They drove this program off of a cliff.

Not all is on the two coaches...its starts at the top, the players the fans we all ****ed the U up....but we all are here to fix it now...move forward

Typical dopey post of the fringe UM fan, who only wears his Canes gear after we win.

Still with the Maryland and BC stuff. Yup both games were 100% on Golden, good call.

The guy has a lot to prove and I don't think anyone is denying that because 13-11 is 13-11. I am not going to sit here and jerk off to 13-11, in fact if this continues PLEASE LEAVE! But to put those two on Golden is spoken like someone who has an agenda.

Maryland went from Miami -5.5 to +4 (9.5 point swing) following the suspensions. That is on Al, Al got those guys suspended, he wanted those guys suspended he begged the NCAA to suspend those guys!

BC, I don't know what to say. I did hear that Al Golden personally called the 4 offense plays prior to Jacory Harris throwing 4 INT. He called the play, drop back and throw to the BC player. I will blame Al for sticking with Jacory though, he sucked cack that day perhaps Morris should have been in the game.

But we know, you fuggs with Al!

Who has accepted mediocrity?

Please tell me, who is happy? Who is excited about mediocrity?

Nobody is going, well we're 13-11 this is all we need or want. People are mad (you should be) but some people believe it is not as simple as 13-11, there is more then meets the eye. There is more too it.

There are three options and everyone is entitled to their opinion:

1. I have seen enough of Golden and he is not the guy. I saw everything against Maryland I needed to see.

2. I have seen enough of Golden and he is not the guy. I will pretend to be on his side but take shots all the time.

3. Golden is entitled to more time and it's time to improve and win MORE GAMES!

The best part of this is no matter what camp you are in (1, 2 or 3) he is here to stay. You can want to suck him off, you can want to stab him, he is here.

while I agree with him, can't take someone that serious when his main spots on College game day is the good eats section...

We've had 24 games to gauge Golden's worth. It's not enough to make a definitive conclusion in either direction, but it's a large enough sample size to at least notice a few trends. Some good, some bad. None of what I've seen on the field at Miami through 24 games shows me that Al is either great or lousy. I'm rooting hard for the guy to succeed. I go to the games and I cheer my *** off like I've done since I was a boy. But don't come in here and tell me that the reasons I choose to be skeptical aren't valid. There's plenty to be excited about (the offense) and there's plenty to be horrified about (the defense). He's got his hands all over this defense and what we've seen so far has been complete dreck. I'm hopeful that things will improve this year and I'll be really surprised if they don't, but I'll remain leery until I see it with my own eyes from my seat at Son Life.

I'm not here to tell you to not be skeptical, I'm not here to tell you to go all in on Al or any of that BS. To each his own and make your own opinions.

I am here to tell you that Maryland and BC are not games in my opinion (IMO, IMO, IMO) to throw on the AL CAN'T DO IT BUS! In fact, I question people who bring them up because what would you do differently? Unsuspend players on the road? Tell the Senior QB don't turnover the ball?

As for the part in bold I question because

1. You bring up Maryland and BC, and

2. You only speak of the defense and nothing more.

As for the defense, offense, special teams...he is the CEO, the good (the offense), the bad (the defense) and what lies between. He takes ALL THE BLAME and he takes ALL THE CREDIT because he is the CEO. When the CEO makes a good hire and that good hire has success, he gets the success for making the good hiring. When the CEO makes a bad hire and that bad hire fails, he takes the blame for making the bad hiring.

Is 24 games all you need to make a decision on someone? It's not like the guy had 2 losing seasons or went 10-14?

I think sometimes all you need to see is a small sample (Pat Nix), but the HC in this situation maybe more time is necessary.

I will concede that the external stuff surrounding the Maryland and BC games played a role in their outcomes. Not crazy about the way we played but I'm willing to let those games slide. We're 13-9 in the other 22 games. Some of it's been good and some of its been bad. Al deserves credit for the offense, defense, special teams. Two of those three units have improved since he took over. The defense (clearly a work in progress) is the one he and Dorito have been using since Temple. It hasn't worked here yet but we only have a couple more months to see where they're at. I hope I'm proven wrong, but I'm not very optimistic about that side of the ball. I'll reserve judgement until then.
