Todd Blackledge: Al Golden just gets it.

13-11 could easily be 17-7 if we had found a way to win some close games these last couple years. It seems like every time this team has been ready to turn the corner, they shoot themselves in the foot. UVA in 2011 and 2012 really stick out right now. If things were supposed to be different, we should have at least beaten them in 2012 (they were good in 2011). The man's proven he can recruit, whether a ****storm, and change the culture of a big-time program. It's time to see results. Show it to me on the field Goldens.

shooting oneself in the foot is a function of being forced to play a ridiculous amount of inexperienced players.

Players that apparently didn't get a whole lot better as the season progressed, as evidenced by the defense allowing 583 yards against Duke in our last game. But keep on making excuses. I'm enjoying this.

Duke was a top 30 offense in the COUNTRY we were what 110 in defense...they were senior heavy with GOOD PLAYERS not normal Crap Duke teams....but still you dont give up 600 yards to 2 star plater teams...something was wrong there for sure

Duke wasn't a bad team at all last year. My only problem was that we still couldn't stop anyone in game 12. I get that the talent wasn't great and that guys were still learning, but I don't necessarily think I'm wrong for expecting better production in late November. Hopefully another spring and fall will go a long way towards expediting the improvement process.

I'm just disappointed that Eddie Johnson, Deon Bush and Denzel Perryman, our 3 best players from a thin and young defense, didn't play well in that Duke game. They were healthy and strong and should have delivered against that **** team.

By game 13 we had it down shutting down powerhouse USF...LOL. Fully agree sir

Agree with you for the most part, but correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't that Deon's 1st game back from the stinger/concussion he got against VT?

Denzel and Deon and Porter were flying around making plays against Duke. The UVA game was a shame because we likely win with Denzel, Eddie, and Deon, but it's troubling that their backups didn't step up. We couldn't make a 3rd down stop all afternoon.

Edit: This is directed at the franchise

This is a make or break year for D'Onofrio IMO. If the defense doesn't improve immensly it's time for him to be fired IMO. I gave him a pass the first 2 years because of personnel, but admit that there major concerns with our scheme and defense as a whole.

I will keep saying this....Once we get a solid balanced offense we can start to run the clock in our favor instead of trying to score every 30 sec and run a shabby tired defense back on the field to get trucked...with Depth you can do that with 2 star freshman 5 months from their proms going in for back up..you are screwed, we needed breaks in games to win..NCST, GT, Duke, we got those breaks UVA, FSU, UNC we did not.....if you really look at the participation numbers it is a wonder we beat anyone...That changes this year

Even though the ACC gets alot of heat for not being a great conference due to the lack of not having at least 1 elite team. Over the last 5 years the ACC has had the most average to above average teams. During that time span Miami has had average to below average teams. It's been posted on here several times that the #1 recruiting class Shannon pulled in was fools golds. Kids either didn't get better, dropped out, never qualified, got kicked out..etc. Also that class was not followed up with similar talent to provide depth. Let alone the last few larry coker classes prior were complete jokes.

Between Coker and Shannon they weren't even filling out the roster. When Golden got here there was only 2 QBs on the rosters! Jacory and S. Morris, how is that possible?? When at worst Jeff Godrey and Denard Robinson both wanted to play QB here and Randy didnt even give them a look.

This is not excuses for Golden. Gruden and other coaches turned this job down because when they looked at the roster they saw that this was a 4 year rebuild minimum not including the NCAA mess that was waiting to drop. If this roster was "loaded' then Gruden or other HCs would have been lining up for this job. To win a few rings, pad their legacies and hit the road again.

Some fans here after a decade of mediocrity are still living in the past. This roster has been terrible for years. Golden's first priority was to actually get the numbers right. We barely had enough guys to run spring scrimmages when he got here. Guys like Deon Bush & Howard etc. Should be RS in the weight room getting bigger. Before being asked to lockdown SRs and Jr. It doesn't matter that Tyriq McCord was an Army HS AA, When he is lined up against a SR whose spent 4(5) years at UVA in a college weight program and College level coaching. Who also has gone up against, Bigger, Faster more experienced pass rushers all season.

We all want to see freshman play because it fuels the hype and give us immediate gratification. But if you're playing more than 2-3 freshman big minutes that means 2 things. Your team isn't good and your team isn't physically developed. People say Duke should never push around..Why is it so hard to believe that a 22/23 year old is stronger than a 18/19 year old?

We just fell behind the 8 ball with no workout plans or nutritionist other schools passed us up. I expect to see serious improvement from here on out with this team. End Rant

that shows how empty the cupboard was that we were relying on a true fresh, a rs fresh and a true soph to be our leaders.
Mccord gets hammered, he lead our team in sacks weighing 217 pds.

Jumbo and Muschump have the run of Florida recruiting since they arrived and not much to show for it. Golden still has to prove he can will on the field, but I agree that it looks like he gets it. JJ lost 5 the first year and could not coach a bowl game to save his life for what seemed forever--or he would have won 3 NCs in a row. Golden does need to take off Big East pants and put on some old menfolk coaching pants. I am confident he will. The man clearly learns from mistakes and has build a excellent base to blow up from when the darkness is removed. He was boraden THE U's reach in local HS from the couple Randy like to many, many more, while maybe losing one. One win over swamp scum, one 10 win season, one ACC champioship game, one final Ncaa decision, and he is set to take over not just SoFL recruitng but all of college football. I can see Al against Satan 2 maybe 3 years from now for all the marbles. What a confused world it will be. all except the SEC will want Bama to lose, but at what a cost--rebirth of THE U! Al not only gets it, he will soon be taking IT and beating the living crap out of everyone with IT. IT IS ALL ABOUT THE [[_]]!!!

fsu is a perennial under achiever, the media always built them up because they were the anti-miami. fsu and georgia every year are always preseason nc contender then choke. even year they won with charlie ward, they were handed a gift over nd to get in game then had horrible officiating carry them over nebraska.

After of all these years of mediocrity, this doesn't excite me anymore. I remember Desmond Howard said Miami would play for a NC by the time the '08 class were Juniors and then the year Shannon was fired he picked us to make to the NC. Lets hope Blackledge's prediction doesn't fall into this laughable category.

Yds per game, games 1-6 = 510
Yds per game, games 7-12 = 463

Points per game, 1-6 = 34.7
Points per game, 7-12 = 26.3

Opponent's 3rd down %, 1-6 = 46.2%
Opponent's 3rd down %, 7-12 = 39%

Opponent's yards per play, 1-6 = 11.25
Opponent's yards per play, 7-12 = 6.23

Rush yds allowed/game, 1-6 = 251
Rush yds allowed/game, 7-12 = 185

Pass yds allowed/game, 1-6 = 259
Pass yds allowed/game, 7-12 = 278

Improvement in all categories except pass yards allowed. Yeah, the Duke game was bad, but the defense got better in the second half of the season than it was the first half of the season.

TBH, I would rather win 9+ games annually, recruit well, and pump players out to the NFL instead of being mediocre (6, 7 wins). Georgia and FSU haven't been pre season NC contenders in some time; FSU in 2009 and Georgia last year. Of course I want NC's but they're closer than we are.

FSU was a preseason favorite to win it all last year and they **** the bed once again. EJ was a 5th year starter at QB. Their defense was loaded with talent. Jimbo is a dud and his incompetence will be exposed soon enough. FSU fans are already rumbling and another season where they drop games they have no business dropping and his *** is going to be red hot.

No, FSU is not further ahead and I would not be surprised at all to beat them this year. Miami may have been young last year but they were hitting hard, playing smart, and were never giving up. That's something I havent seen out of a Miami team in at least 5 years.

I know we haven't seen the results on the field yet, but considering the crap Golden has had to deal with in his short amount of time at UM, i'd say he's done a remarkable job. It's baffling that some of you guys haven't fully jumped on board yet. I'd be shocked if he doesn't get us back to competing for titles on a yearly basis very soon.

The guys who get paid to follow the sport all see it. What's taking you "fans" so long? Just curious......

13-11 record i think. Im on board with Golden but that is his record.

It's always a great idea to judge corches based on their first couple years at a program. Larry Coker will go down as the greatest HC in the history of college football because he was 24-0 his first two years at UM.

You mean that Coker was not GOAT????? But he won a title..... I will never believe it!!!

They're not visionaries. Can't blame them. They need success to smack them in the face before they can see the light.

I.E. your miiiiIIIAAAAAMMMIIIiiii Heat!
