Todays scrimmage

I literally cannot fathom how someone can advocate Highsmith Rodgers and Green having significant PT on a team trying to move past mediocrity.

lol you all were saying the same thing about Brandon McGee too

nobodies talking about either of these players having significant playing time but they should and will play.... There is no depth at safety for highsmith and rodgers not to play so there's that????

Shayon Green has earned the playing time he is going to get this season and its simple as that.

Thank U. We don't have have enough D depth yet. That's two years away. That's why I think 9-3. Injuries will happen, but we will improve.

Just enjoy the ride.

F*ck that, 9-3 is not a great year for a team with our offense. 10 win minimal for a good year. 3 of our Safety's are young & can improve though out the year. When Bush comes back, he will make up for at least half of the safety problems. We just need one other safety to play decent if that happens.

So 5 year rebuilding process to create some depth?
Golden was able to do it @ Temple by year 3/4 and that's without So Fla talent & with limited scholarships.

Yeah I definitely have higher expectations then a 9 win season, but i will settle for that if we win the Coastal and compete for the ACC chip.... I only think the defense is 1 year away from reaching its full potential, but I do think the safety depth situation is 2 years away from being where we need it to be unless the staff goes out and gets some Juco safeties to feel those wholes.

the season hasnt started yet and none of you guys have watched practice or the scrimmages. claim down.

Mcgee is different, he's got talent. Safety is such an instinctive position and neither of those guys have it.

Recruit safeties who can come in and challenge from day one. I know AG takes a few under the radar/developmental guys but i think we need to be after some of the best safeties in the country this year.

Golden is going into his third season; if there's no safety depth, it's his fault.

We got Bush and Jenkins starting.

Carter and Burns should end up behind them IMO.

I know Burns has potential at corner, and maybe he does double duty a little as a slot guy or something. People said the same **** about Bush last year and look how that turned out. Some people talk down about the safety position vs. the CB spot and I don't get it. Safety is a prime time spot too. So you don't get islands named after you. That's just some bull**** spawned off the show Survivor. Aint nothin wrong with being a playmaking safety. Burns can be that.

After Burns and Carter, we will have some projects who will be ready by the time they're upper classmen if their number is called. RL3 maybe? IDK. We're bringing in alot of guys who can end up at multiple spots. I aint worried.

Bush and Jenkins should be making plays for a couple more years. After that, dudes will be ready.

The only team who didn't lose a game in the regular season last year couldn't run with Dorsett in the slot. ****, they couldn't run with him no matter where he lined up. He just didn't catch the ball. He is Roscoe, Santana fast with the ball in the air. Hopefully he can have a junior year like those guys had.

I'm still trying to find out why people are so enamored with R. Jenkins. People said he payer some amazing game against Duke, but I reattached it and he did not look very good at all whiffing on a couple of tackles. What has he done in his career to deserve such fan fare? I don't want to see KC on the field taking people helmets as much as the next buy but I trust the coaches on this one and if Highsmith earns a starting spot or lots of pt this year then so be it.

I know this is unpopular but I want Arab Money to start over Shayon. I'm sorry we need a constant pass rush to help our secondary.

Because a team is going to throw the ball every down right? On top of that, for this hypothetical lets start a true freshman over a 5th year senior (Gilbert) who has the same qualities (better than Quan) when healthy. Green needs his role lessened, but he can still provide depth.

I wouldn't dismiss AQM so lightly. I also wouldn't say that Gilbert is a better pass rusher than AQM at this point.
Gilbert is a known quantity. He started 13 games last year and had 4 sacks. In 4 years playing college Gilbert has 14.5 tfl's and 8.5 sacks. Chick in 2 years has 13 tfl's and 9 sacks and most people, not myself, think Chick is a below average to average pass rusher.
So what does that say for Gilbert?
Quan looks like a guy who could go off like Rusty Madearis and get 4.5 sacks in his 1st ever game.
Not saying it will happen, just saying that to compare AQM to Gilbert is, honestly, a huge compliment to Gilbert.

The comparison to Chick and Gilbert looks valid on the surface, but if you dig deeper its not even remotely similar. Did you take into account Gilbert's injuries? He didn't play for 4 full years man...cmon. Here is his Wisco bio...

That's one **** of a productive season last year. He was injured 3/4 of the season in '11. In '12 he was a true soph. This guy is no slouch...and if healthy, will be an impact player for us without a doubt. Possibly our top DE the day he stepped foot on campus.

You might want to edit your post, particularly your time line. If he was a true soph in 2012 how did he earn his 2nd letter in 2010?

It was a typo...obviously my point still stands. Negged for attacking a minor grammatical error instead of addressing the FACTS.

yes because he had the ncaa breathing down his neck at temple, plus i think last years team would beat any temple team he ever coached........

You can make all the excuses u want. Give all the accolades u want. Tell me how there "good kids", "great team guys", and all that other BS. But as long as Green, Highsmith, and KC are getting significant burn we will never be any better then a 8 win team.

These guys are not BCS game type players. U can't beat the UFs and FSUs of the world with these guys getting sig playing time. I love them cuz they are canes but those are just the facts. Otherwise, it sounded like a good scrimmage.

I was at the scrimmage as well. My observations mirror udaman's observations. The offense has way too many weapons for any defense to stop. The OL might be the best OL I've ever seen at UM, and probably one of the top units in the country. The receiving corps is better and deeper than I thought it would be, and I had high hopes for the unit. Herb Waters and Dorsett were outstanding, Malcolm Lewis made a nice catch and Stacy Coley is a special talent. The TEs looked good. Stephen Morris is playing with supreme confidence to go along with a tremendous skill set. Duke is Duke and Maurice Hagens was more than impressive on his run after his reception.

The offense owned the defense at the beginning (the first three possessions), but the defense began to bow up after that. The defense has a ton of talent. Curtis Porter, Olsen Pierre, Gilbert and AQM were standouts along the defensive front. AQM dropped into coverage on one play and demonstrated incredible athleticism and speed: it was truly impressive. The LBs are excellent against the run, but were having a tough time against the pass. The CBs were okay, but I expect them to improve. Not having 2 out there was a problem, but Artie Burns looks like the real deal.

The kicker was very good and has a very strong leg (he hit the platform on the scissor lift on one successful attempt.

Sunny and Alex Gall were wearing red shirt and an assistant S & C coach was working them out throughout the scrimmage (especially Alex Gall (who was pushing the assistant coach around the track as the assistant coach sat in a John Deere golf cart for a significant portion of the first half)).

You're right about the AQM coverage play, Ibis. Was very impressive. Overall, I think the DL was the best performing group on defense.

With regards to the guys who were held out, thanks for identifying Gall on the sideline. I was wondering who that big guy pushing the golf cart was. Come to think of it, in addition to Chick, I did not see Allen Hurns on the field either. Did you? Maybe they were being purposely sat by Golden.
