This is how it's done

The only thing that matters is if he can evlauate, recruit the right type of players and most importantly land these kids. Secondly he needs to surround himself with the right people which also seems to be an issue, IMO, at this point....other wise he's just an organized failure that talks a good game. Ultimatley time will tell one way or another.

Year 1 left alot of question marks soemwhat simular to what you saw with shannon, a first time HC.....some of which you don't expect to see from an experinced HC.

i think Goldens plan will pay off but we are going to have to be patient. But i am very excited for the future of the canes now that we have a real recruiter

LULZ, did Nick Saban leave plenty of "question marks" his first year in Alabama?

Al had a team of kids he didn't recruit, who didn't care. Yeah, they might be talented enough to play in the league and maybe will start caring once they get paid but its pretty hard to be successful in CFB with a squad like he had. Terrible depth, brutal secondary and almost no effort from the senior leadership

He does have some track record with Temple, but I know some have been worried that this isn't Temple and he needs to go after higher talent than he might be used to recruiting there, but he also was at Penn State, BC, and UVA. He obviously coached up kids at Temple, which is saying something. I think what we're going to see, as the team takes on his personality, an overall increase in the quality of play. I used to get so sick and tired of the kids saying "it's just a few mentals" or fix the small mistakes, but they happened every time. Golden doesn't seem to tolerate that at all. They lost games last year because of a lot of inferior talent, which will take a while to change, but I'm optimistic for the first time in years. Obviously the 2008 kids didn't really buy into Golden's plan since so many left. Ed Reed stayed, knowing he was probably a 1st round pick. Those guys left when they could. Streeter was the only one maybe with a reason, but I still think he should have stayed. He could have gone higher in the draft next year.

Like What? Losing to the Final Ap #1 and #2 teams by 10 points? Saban identifying a problem in the secondary and instead of crying about it he brings in kareem jackson who started as a true and became a first rounder? Meanwhile Golden brings in Mike Williams....wonder where he'll get drafted.

Oh I know...... saban lost to ulm at home (((yawn))) in a game bama domianted but couldn't overcome 4 turnovers (2 fumbles, 2int's almost pic 6) like most other 7-6 teams. It's not like he got out coached and dominated like Miami did vs 2-10 maryland and even with the suspensions Miami still had more all acc guys/talent in the game than maryland did.

Don't compare Golden to Saban. You'll make yourself look silly.

Dude you're trying to hard. How is it silly? How do you know Golden won't be better than Saban? You're a clown. Going by your asinine logic, Coker is a **** of a coach.

You have got to be the most retarded poster on this board. Trying to spin Saban's first year **** to somehow be better than Golden's first year ****.

I'm amazed the lengths to which you'll go to disparage Golden's work. Still can't get over how your dad's mythical #1 2008 recruiting class put this program in the tank. It's sad, really.

That's part of your problem. Football and logic don't always go together. You look at individual situations and assess them. That's entry level football talk.

Ummmm no b/c i could careless about mythical #1 class projections. Pretty shallow to look at records and assume to teams are the same. Are 12-0 2001 Miami and 12-0 whatever year UTAH the same kinda teams? Just like 6-6 2011 Miami and 7-6 2007 bama aren't the same. can't believe I had to explain that. lol

Golden was hired on Dec. 12 2010. Saban was hired on jan 3 2007. Golden had more time. next excuse.

You see this statement here just shows how you continue to perpecuate flawed logic.

Using YOUR logic, Saban would have just as many "question marks" as Golden coming out of their first year. You're gauging a coach's ability on their first year. That is a HUGE mistake in any sport. The problem lies in what your using to assess their abilities. Unfortunately its not the right one.

Saban had 23 'ships to give out for the class of 2007. Golden was handicapped by roster mismanagement and had 16 this past year. Saban also walked into 9 commitments whereas Golden walked into what - 2 that stuck?

Golden did the best he could with the hand that was dealt.

This is still a really stupid conversation.

Golden has a plan and is executing, just like the OP said...and we will reap the benefits. Hopefully Nites is on another bandwagon by then.
