Recruiting doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things? Explain please.
I am in no way, shape or form arguing that recruiting doesn't matter. Reread the statement.
Trying to convince kids to stay home isn't as easy as everyone thinks it is. You don't think every Miami staff in the last 40 years has tried to keep local kids home?
We have no clue at this point whether offering Hoggins is the right thing to do, or whether bringing in Joe Brown was a mistake or not. I don't know what the answer is. If it helps bring in SBB (it sounds like Ridley might never be able to get in anyway), then great. If SBB plays the coaches and ditches them at the last second, and Hoggins flops, all of the Madden coaches in here would be up in arms ****ing and moaning (which they'll do anyway).
I am not arguing we need to keep everyone at home, but we need to improve the hit rate.
Despite the fact no Miami staff has ever succeeded in keeping all of the local studs at UM, this staff needs to rely on recruiting top-tier talent more than previous regimes.
Erickson brought X's and O's. Davis had a supreme eye for talent.
Golden, well, doesn't really bring anything. He's a good politician, but from a coaching perspective, doesn't really excel at anything.
Because of this, Miami needs elite talent to overcome coaching deficiencies.
This is why people ***** when guys like Thomas and Cook end up at FSU and others leave for different schools.
