The Work 1-12

this is becoming so depressing. if we lost kids because of penn st. i am gonna really have a had time stomaching golden.

I dont think that was a deciding factor on any of these kids. It may have scared a few, but AG could have easily spun that and put it to rest on the phone with them. Kids that are flaking were kids that were having concerns for other reasons as well. Not to say the PSU thing didnt make some think twice, or maybe gave some pause, but Im not buying that it was a major factor for anyone.

Sorry man, but this is beyond reaching.

You really think it's some sort of coincidence that we've lost both Powell and Valentine since AG wasn't name the PSU head coach?

****, reporters from the Army Bowl were claiming the speculation was giving Valentine second thoughts and boom, he decommits. If that doesn't qualify as a "major" factor, I don't know what does.

Lenius is a stud. He's more Derrick Griffin than Daniel Adderley. We'd be lucky to add a talent like that.

How much have you seen of him? Are you getting info from other sources? Just wondering because I personally can't tell a ton from the highlight videos. Would be great news.

k9 first put me on to Lenius back in October.

This guy has a ton of local buzz and looks the part on his Hudl clips. He runs well, high points the ball, and he was borderline dominant against a Serra secondary loaded with D-1 athletes. We always joke about kids being 16 after Dmitri Stewart, but this guy looks young. He may just be scratching the surface of his physical development.

Still can't get him out of head when reading about Lenius.

Thanks for the info.

there's this new little thing called SOCIAL MEDIA that he didn't have to deal with….

I see. That makes sense. I guess other teams don't have fans that use social media. Just UM fans.

.

they do, but we're talking about UM and i'm referencing you're above statement..

Still don't see how your comment has anything to do with what I posted. This dude was talking about attendance at UM games, and you're bringing up social media.

If everyone's using social media, then it doesn't have any more of an affect on what UM is doing than it does on anyone else. But carry on making excuses for BFP Golden's failures.

Agreed that attendance shouldn't affect Golden more then it did prior coach.

But, seeing how we have more talent per capita then the rest of the country….then Social Media does have more affect on us. What other area could claim to have 3 of the top 4 RBs and 3 of the top 7 WRs in the Nation. Especially since the majority of talent in SFL is at skill positions, which players at those positions tend to enjoy the attention more then others….

Yeah. Good stuff on the per capita tie in. I really see your point clearly now. Makes perfect sense.

TE is in Lenius' future.

That's what I thought, but then Pete said Njoku offer is legit. Njoku IMO is def a TE so I don't think they'd offer both to be TEs.

TE is a position we are looking to upgrade. Walford and Sandland are seniors, and Dobard is more of an in-line tight end. We need pass catchers. Lenius came on the scene late and they really like him. I don't think it has much to do with Njoku. It's more about offering a rising star early.

Funny thing is that they are pretty different. Lenius is a long, fluid basketball player, Njoku is a track-and-field guy with a strong lower-body. We could use both. Herndon is also in the mix.

The key to this entire class is getting Valentine to recommit. He's the dominant dt we need to play early, especially with Wyche and Heurtelou possibly not getting in. If the staff can get Valentine to recommit, any other available recruits don't matter all that much. Aside from maybe Lane and Jackson, we don't really have a shot with any other big time recruits (not that we have a shot with Lane and Jackson that much anyway). I've heard rumblings about Keyon Brown, Daniel Gresham, Michael Sawyers, Raymon Minor, Davon Godchaux, but I wouldn't put too much stock into them. As fans, we need to be realistic and realize that this cycle probably won't end with the flashy finishes that we've been getting the past couple of cycles. Be happy with who we have and don't worry so much about who we don't have.

On another note, what’s the deal with the staff offering Treon Harris now? Is it just a reaction to FSU taking so many SFLA boys? I don’t get it. Anybody know anything? Any guesses?

My optimistic take: they are starting to learn from their mistakes.

Do you have a way-too-early comparison to make? Mike Williams?

the truth hurts sometimes...was at least hoping for JC..

I don't want to settle for Gresham...I am sorry if UT does not want you why
should Miami..if you are going to reach in another state it should be for
top athletes..

I don't know about the WR's but ...I will say a prayer for the staff they need all
they can get right now..

its hard for me to get past golden its like he is one direction minded and can't like think outside of his own box..
for a guy that is so key on having a plan...how is he a coach that works in the hot bed of recruiting and still can't
figure out to have back ups for the kids that don't commit. I am sorry the lack of talent there of on the roster is
his fault all these kids are his guys going in to next year...he can't think to have more kid with scholly offers
or that he is recruiting...I don't get it...so down the stretch we have to watch the scramble its tiring...

there are kids in 2015 that still don't have offers that are top athletes in the state?

Whats the hold up?

This staff does not close.

I expect us to come up flaccid on signing day and drop to around or even out of the Top 10.

1) how does Powell flip to the gators during Dead period and with never being offered by them before the day he's suppose to enroll at Miami? Somethings up there regardless of what anyone says.

2) I don't have a lot of faith in any of the BTW kids until one actually signs. I believe eduardo clements was the last BTW kid to play here if i'm not mistaken. the shannon firing has a lot to do with that.

3) why oh why do we keep recruiting and offering kids who can't get in every year? i mean i know it's inevitable sometimes but **** we have offered way too many kids who don't qualify. that falls on the staff for not doing enough research on their recruits, which would be effort better used on kids that actually qualify. i feel i just never hear about this many kids not qualifying at other programs year in and year out. these coaches definitely need to do their research on the current culture of recruiting. no excuse for not offering treon harris a offer as a qb even with no intentions on using him as a qb. same can be said with quincy wilson as a cb. coaches at fsu, bama, & uf get it, but for some reason our staff doesn't.

there i'm done venting. despite my previous comments i'm actually excited to see how this recruiting class ends and looking forward to progress next season

We've always had more problems that other schools because we recruit primarily in Dade and south Florida and there have always been an inordinate number of kids with academic issues, at least that seems to be the problem. When discussing this with other UM fans in the '80's, they would blame it on the schools, the parents, whatever. I think south Florida has an unusually large number of poorly prepared athletes coming out of the public schools. If I am wrong, say so, but I believe it is probably true. Some kids, like Devin Hester, seem to be persistent in trying to overcome whatever academic problems they might have, others don't care and go anywhere they can to play football. Some leave for the pros and never get a degree at UM. I'm not sure Ray Lewis has a UM degree--unless it's the Univ. of Maryland degree he got later on. At least he finished up.

We're recruiting in one of the weakest pools academically, if one of the strongest talent-wise.
