The Seantrel Henderson thread...

hes been back on campus and was cleared and was back at practice late in the week but he was not at canesfest yesterday

it was being said at canes fest yesterday that he is contemplating if he wants to continue playing football or not

i dont know if thats 100% accurate, but after the last month it seems like wanting some reflection time could seem plausible

lets look at the last month hes had
2 funerals
a crashed car
a hefty fine for driving with a suspended license
a concussion
missing so much time that hes gone from the starter to being 3rd behind a true freshman and a 4 year wasted roster spot

i personally dont think he will quit football, but i do think that if he cannot move up to the top of the depth chart again by the 3rd or 4th week that he will wind up with a RS and that is he does RS, he wont be here next year.

Disagree. That RT spot is Flowers' to lose but he's never played. If he gets handled and RT play is affecting our offense, you'll be surprised how quickly they go back to a guy that they know has been effective in the past. It's up to Henderson to get his conditioning back but they won't turn a blind eye if they need a player and he's available

Everyone needs to prepare for him to not be a part of this team. If he is, it's just an added bonus.

the only reason the spot became his to lose was in part because henderson has missed as much time as he has. even with flowers impressing since he stepped foot on campus, the fact is that if henderson had not had missed so much time due to dead friends and a concussion, flowers would have likely been battling jermaine johnson for the 2nd spot. considering the way its worked out, and based on the way johnson and flowers seem to be doing, it appears that henderson will have an uphill battle to climb to the 2nd spot, which is why i feel that if that doesnt happen early on in the season, hes destined for a RS

i agree

i said it earlier that i personally feel hes headed for a RS and if that happens i think he will transfer next year, that is assuming that he makes it that long without doing something to burn his final strike and get him kicked off the team.

hopefully he channels his emotions into making himself an unstoppable machine on the OL and eats his opponents for lunch on the field, leading this OL to a phenomenal season. I want the rage-monster unleashed!

Kid has done nothing at Miami and his presence doesn't make much difference one way or the other in determining how good we can be this season.

@smillerdegnan: #UM OT Seantrel H still not here but Golden said he's still part of team but "has to get his personal house in order"

Yawn.

Sentral is gone after this year no matter what. So if plays this year ok, if he don't ok. This is a true rebuild year so it will give young guys experience for future.

I will say I had a close death to me within the last 6 months. It makes you rethink or second guess everything. I have had my own business for 12 yr, pride my self in hard work and working harder and doing more than my competition. After the death I could not motivate myself, it was just why? Why did this happen, maybe I should just spend more time and relish the time with fam and friends. It litteraly took my edge of wanting to be the best.
Thank God, I am through it. But maybe this is sh issue?

I think you hit the nail on the head. Anyone who has lost a family member or close friend should be able to relate to this at least a little bit. I'm not going to pile on Seantrell. I'm hoping the kid works everything out. But it's gotta be a tough time emotionally for him. I wish him the best.

Coupled with a near fatal car accident. Kid's had a string of bad luck. Hopefully his teammates are more supportive than some of you fans.

Regardless of all the arguments I've had with folks in this thread and others on this issue, my stance continues to be that Seantrel deserves our support. He's done some majorly knuckleheaded stuff in the past, no denying that on my part--but this stuff is unrelated to that. By all reports, he had a great offseason, and was ready to roll this season. Then...all of the stuff that AzureCane lined out happened in a very short time span. He didn't ask for any of it to happen. I don't care if he's 6'8/350 or whatever he's listed at on the roster--when you're hurting emotionally, it's **** tough to just pick up and go. You can be a physical specimen, but if your mind is messed up and you're contemplating some heavy stuff for a 20 year old to absorb in such a short time span...you're as helpless as you can be.

I think once Seantrel gets out of the mourning stage of things, and is able to put things in proper perspective, he'll be back, and he'll be better. If you guys have ever went through stuff like this happening in quick succession like this, it helps to put things in order, and once you get your mind right (which takes time)--you come back to whatever it is that you do as an inspired and highly-motivated individual. I think that ought to be the hope of every single Canes fan on here...no matter the motivation.

If you're a fan of Seantrel's, root for his success. If you're a fan of the Canes and act like you don't care about Seantrel--well, bad news...Seantrel IS a Cane. If one of them is hurting, we should hurt for them--I don't care if this was one of the walk-on kids that this was happening to, I'd be concerned for the kid personally and his welfare. That's part of being a family. The Canes are a family--from the team, to the administration, to the fanbase--all family. Plus--having a 6'8/350 RT out there who has helped this team in the past isn't a bad thing, and that goes for the team and for the kid.

Honestly--if I'm Golden, once Seantrel gets back, I would heavily suggest, and maybe even mandate, that he go to counseling to work thru some of these issues before he gets fully back into the groove of working with the team. The more help you can give Seantrel to work through things emotionally, then the quicker you get the guy back onto the team and helping you out. And even if that doesn't happen, if you're Golden and you help Seantrel get counseling but he never returns to football, at least you helped give Seantrel a chance to heal up and be the best young man he can be...which is always a part of being a good HC.

Getting the culture turned around and having a "no excuses" mentality is important for this program and it's future--but we cannot lose sight of the human aspect of things. Once we do that, we're no better than the pricks in other programs that would cut a kid because he's working thru personal issues like this, and then at that point--preaching family to a recruit becomes absolutely hollow and hypocritical on our part. We simply can't afford to do that.

This x10000 IMO. I wish all the best to the kid, hejas obviously been through hard times lately and if the best is for him to stay, then I wish he stays. If the best for him, for whatever reason, is to go, hope he goes.

However from a strict football perspective, I'm honestly starting to hope he goes. In a year where we'll be starting true freshmen at key positionsorat least having them very close in the depth chart, with virtually no proven upperclassmen, this year is a building year. We shouldn't finish with anything more than 7 wins anyways, so I would much rather have a tru freshmen who's dedicated to football and the U than SMH. If there ever was a season where we could afford to have young guns take some burn at the higher level, this is the one. It will be very beneficial for us in the long run, although it will make for a hard year to watch. As many flashes of greatness as we'll witness, we'll also be forced to endure some of the normal growing pains and mistakes that true freshmen inevitably make, it's inevitable.

However that playing time and valuable experience, as hard as it'll be this year, will be of inestimable value when we step up to the field in the 2014 playoffs with a core of ballers
composed of Duke, Lewis, Lockhart, Dorsett, Flowers, Perryman, Kirby, Ckick, Blue, Howard, Bush, etc. and that's not even counting the future recruits like Olsen, Collins, Sony, Artie, Carter, etc, we could be an unstoppable force again.

That's why, from a football standpoint, I can't be unhappy with Seantrel leaving, just like I was extatic to see Ray Ray and every other Shantard leftovers get kicked off the squad.

The future is bright, it will be a bumpy ride getting there, but we'll get there all right.
