The Opening 2017 WR's vs DB's

Blades continues to show out. Always matching up against top WRs. Hightower is a stud. Dude is a mismatch nightmare. Pope continues to impress. He plays much bigger then his stature. Pope and Blades should be 5 stars.

Regarding Moore- hopefully we get him into the fold. A true slot guy.

Surtain abused Pope on that 2nd rep.
What??

Pope caught the TD on him.

Yes, he caught the pass after Surtain ran him off his route into linebacker territory. In a game he wouldn't have been an option on the play. Surtain got the W on that rep. Doesn't mean I'm dumping on Pope. He's been a top player according to other reports.
The rep doesn't end after 5 yards & in an actual game Pat Jr would've been called for Defensive holding lol

I didn't say you were dumping on Pope, I'm just confused that people seem to think Pat won all those reps when the WR made the catch every time.

Another reason football is played with pads. These camp settings are stupid IMO. As a former db myself I'd be more confident in my rep if I was Pat then thinking Pope won the rep.

Dumb question on these wr vs. db 1v1's - do the receivers have a specific route they have to run or is it just complete freestyle?

Moore is the kind of kid who ends up at Louisville and torches us for 100+ yds every time we play them. route running is crisp as F. Wish we had room but bigger fish on the board (never a bad thing)

-Pope looked great and will be a Amari Cooper type impact player right away IMO
-I agree, I really liked that Shorter kid. Looks very smooth
-Austin looked big and strong
-Hightower will be very good and reliable
-Loved Elijah
-Surtain is physically ready. Think he could be an amazing safety but I said the same thing about Quincy Wilson

Shorter looks great. Moore wants some respect. Marshall is 0-60 in two steps. Xavier Williams is getting bigger and his frame will add more muscle. He is gonna be a problem in college. We need nab him, Moore, or both.

Really really like Jaiden Woodbey!

I'm not seeing it with Brian Hightower. He's neither fluid nor explosive in his movements and seems to lack top end speed.

I'd take a number of other WR's on our board over him.

The exact same criticism could be said of Clemson's Mike Williams, who just went in the 1st round. Hightower's size and game are incredibly similar.

In an actual game, most DBs just wont be able to keep him from catching passes. He's not going to be a deep threat, but you have Pope and Thomas for that. He's going to be the guy who moves the sticks and consistently catches slant routes on 3rd and 5's.

And thats why America is glad you dont have any decision making responsibilities when it comes to UM football.

TBH, that was my very first impression of him. But the more I watched the more I saw a kid who was actually very fluid in and out of his cuts. He is what I call sneaky fast - doesn't look like he's moving fast but he is. Anyway, tifwiw

What ever happened to Sherwood?

Is he still favoring us or have we let him slip away?

If you look closely, you'll see only a handful of useful things in these AND1 videos. Some of these kids are horrific in and out of their breaks. Some of the "superstar" DBs look shaky, at best, changing direction. Don't watch who wins the rep. Watch why they win or lose.

@ 8:40 - Mark Pope vs Pat Surtain II, Pope beat'em twice & made it look easy.

This video is much better than the other I posted in the OP, it has way more reps from a very good angle.

I was really impressed with Justin Shorter, he looks like AJ Green out there.

And whoever told Tyreke Johnson he's a CB just flat out lied to him, has no flip in his hips & runs like he's waiting for the route to be finished so he can just make a leg tackle lol

Agree on shorter. Also thought moore looked good. Just quicker than eeryone.

Same here.

Like a lot of huge young WRs he just looked a bit awkward at first. The more I see him the more I like him.

I'm just not seeing it. He looks awky to me and seems to run with a hitch, I'm curious what he is currently timing at.

I hope I'm wrong but in my view guys like Austin and Thornton are superior prospects.
