Yep very rare that any coach makes a hire where you can't easily connect dots.

Mario to Steele was easy

Mario to Gattis was through Saban. Don't think he got enough info from Saban to connect the dots to know the terms the guy was leaving these places. Lack of connection wasn't the only reason it failed but it's likely the reason for the lack of a true background and why the red flags didn't come up.

I met Josh Pate in Knoxville this year and we talked about Gattis for half an hour. He knew it wasn't going to work because he's got several connections who immediately reached out (most notably James Franklin and Ricky Rahne - 2 FBS head coaches tying back to Penn State) to him and said this isn't going to work like they think it is (Gattis to Miami). And it was more than just those 2 that told him that.

I'd say the throughline to Gattis was Joe Moorhead. Gattis was Moorheads WR Coach at Penn State when he was the OC there.

SIAP, but Arizona is gonna wait til after the SB to hire their HC. Which will most likely be from the Philly staff, so either Gannon or Steichen.

If it’s Steichen, does Brian Johnson get a promotion to OC?
And that’s the issue where Mario needs to have someone already lined up as plan B to jump in immediately.

Honestly, it’s risky if this is the case. He got burned waiting on Dorsey last year.

Need some pics of this Michelle broad as penance
Ah ha!!! I foiled another plot to derail this thread under the highly secretive Operation Tony! Toni! Toné!

You too must suffer a one hour thread ban for trying to creep on Michelle in conjunction with the CIO/signed Peruche thread derail. You will be released back into the wilds of this thread in 1 hour at 4:43 pm PST.

why do people want johnson anyways? serious question
I don't know that they do. The length of this search is forcing people to dot connect and try to make sense of something that really shouldn't take this long. So now a plausible reason is that Mario's choice is someone coaching in the last game of the year and no potential announcement is being made to prevent distractions. We're now in the NFL guy whose future is tied to other job openings stage of the cycle.

I think he was the QB coach and Mullen was calling the plays.
yeah, I deleted my comment because I got mixed up and thought he was under McElwain not Mullen

I mean in that case we might as well just get Mullen if he’s a legitimate option
