There are many on here who could not write a coherent 8th grade paper...and it shows. There are a lot on here who haven't written a college paper in the last.............forever, and it shows!!!!
All for the very tight circle and no complaints over the lack of leaks. I wasn't meaning to say that the OC search specifically is a clown show, rather the state of the coaching staff in general at the moment. This is just a little different, to me, than when people were mistakenly calling our AD search a clown show before we hired Rad. We have stories, including from Feldman yesterday (who I am sure is not in the inner circle but he certainly is in some form of Mario's circle) about the lack of cohesion among the staff, coaches hating each other, coaches maybe being promised roles that they are not given, coaches deflecting to other programs, coaches not pulling their weight or wanting to recruit etc.
I have friends of other programs texting me all the time asking me what is going on. The optics of the staff right now are not great, both from the outside person looking in or from most of us diehards on this board reading stories and/or rumors. When you add 5-7 to the story, it's just not a great look all around right now. I mean now we are even seeing rumors Joe is dead weight and Mario brought him from Oregon. I want nothing more than Mario to build a cohesive and great staff and that is still possible but it is just hard to believe Mario is in the middle of executing some master game plan re the coaching staff right now based on everything since we hired him.
Why in the world would this be the hire? His resume doesn’t at all lend to being an OC hereKevin Patullo is a very interesting name. Definitely out of left field and would fit with the timeline and lack of leaks. That would make sense
Thanks for your solid input, TOC!Alright, let's look at the list.
Candle - Mario pursued him before, so this is like chasing a girl that you really, really want. I've texted with some prominent guys on the board, we are a bit concerned that there is an obssessiveness to chasing Candle that might exceed his actual excellence/brilliance. This is a hard one to analyze, as we've obviously prepared paperwork and made an offer; I've seen this before, you want to give your first choice every chance to land the job, but it backfires if it doesn't work out. Sucks.
Frost - "would've been done" in the sense he has no buyout, agreed. Actually, every other name on the list is (essentially) available. Which is why I think this one (Frost) hit the vetting wall earlier.
Littrell - same as with Frost, he's available. I think Littrell is suffering the effects of Candlemania (Mario is still screaming like a teenaged girl in 1964). Litrell has similar coaching resume attributes to Guidry, with some prior HC experience.
Nussmeier - can we just be honest, THIS ONE is more familiarity-based. I still think he is the worst name on the list.
Cam Turner/Spencer Whipple - I'm putting these guys together because I still like them as a package deal. Also available, may be a pivot choice.
Arroyo - stop trying to scare the natives. Also a "familiarity" choice.
I'd add in Johns, as I don't think he is super-UNavailable. Getting him out of Duke would be cheap-and-easy, on the level of Guidry's Tulane buyout.
Sooooo...in conclusion....I think the fact that the "most plausible list" is dominated by available names is less of a reflection that we are pursuing someone in the Super Bowl, or some mystery candidate, than it is the product of Mario pursuing Candle like he pursues recruits. He never gives up until a kid signs an LOI with someone else.
Just my take on the situaton. I'm not against Brian Johnson, I just don't think that's going to happen. I think the name is most likely to come from the list above, unless we manage to identify some talented guy who's had a really hard life for the last 12 years, and is available at bargain prices...
Because we're at the "throw out random OC names because the ones in the media are never right" stage of the grief process. Why in the world would this be the hire? His resume doesn’t at all lend to being an OC here
As you probably know, the guy who was hired to clean up ENRON is now the guy trying to clean up FTX. Says it is the most incompetent company he has ever seen. Ran a multi-billion dollar company's books on Quikbooks.
Thanks for your solid input, TOC!
Brain fart on my kart forgetting Johns.
Brian Johnson, to me, is headed in to bigger things in the NFL, as an OC, if I was a betting man. But ya never know. Maybe he wants to be a college HC and being a solid OC at Miami would certainly help. But like I said, just throwing a dart at the board with a blind fold on.
Regarding the obsession with Candle, in business or in life (obsessing over some girl that keeps passing on you, like ******* Jenny with Forrest. **** that *****!) it rarely works out for the better.
Candle is not that good to be obsessing like this over him. If anything, I think Candle would be his down fall because I just don’t see it with Candle.

I think candle was a distraction
Unless I am mistaken or misinterpreting what he wrote, Cribby has said multiple times that Candle has an offer from Mario.Candle and Mario share an agent, right?
This is clearly a coordinated smoke screen.

Candle probably has pee pee tapes of Mario like Putin had of Trump
My turn:Because we're at the "throw out random OC names because the ones in the media are never right" stage of the grief process.
What do you like about Brian Johnson? You want him *pause* why?Candle was offered the job, and him taking this long to decide makes me think that he going to take the Notre dame OC job. I want Brian Johnson. I Hope Mario reaches out.
