At this point, it's easier to believe that Candle saved Mario's life at some point and Mario is willing to perpetually link him to Miami so he can get raises and other jobs than to believe Mario has done this two years in a row with Candle and it's dragging on again.

I understand the trepidation in the first year on his side, but when you circle back around for year 2 it's either yes or no and you both move on. If the surface level appears to be true, this is the second year that Candle is holding the process hostage. And if he ends up at Notre Dame then Mario is a f***ing idiot.
Candle probably has pee pee tapes of Mario like Putin had of Trump

nuss brings Mario one step closer to the door in my opinion. imagine sucking on offense again and having to replace him. then year 3 is officially the hottest seat in college football even with his contract.
I completely agree with you. Just hoping somebody is in Mario's ear reminding him of this. That Feldman mention of Nussmeier yesterday scared the **** out of me.

Lol at thinking Mario isn’t getting at least 4, probably 5 years minimum to clean up this ****show

sunbelt Billy’s seat will be undoubtedly hotter.

The only thing Nussmeier brings is misery to the fans who will be subjected to his horrible offense. Mario’s job is safe for the foreseeable future.

Ok - gonna take a stab at it and put my Slurper hat on:

- Candle (would’ve been done)
- Frost (would’ve been done)
- Littrell (would’ve been done)
- Nussnut****tymier (would’ve been done)
- Cam Turner (would’ve been done)
- Arroyo (would’ve been done)
- Spencer Whipple (would’ve been done)

That obviously leaves a mystery candidate perhaps still coaching in the Super Bowl. If Mario indeed had talks with my #1 choice OC in Mullen for input as @TheOriginalCane has said perhaps he is getting the run down on someone. That someone;

Brian Johnson

(Disclaimer: I am just throwing **** against the wall. Mario was competent in hiring his new DC).

Alright, let's look at the list.

Candle - Mario pursued him before, so this is like chasing a girl that you really, really want. I've texted with some prominent guys on the board, we are a bit concerned that there is an obssessiveness to chasing Candle that might exceed his actual excellence/brilliance. This is a hard one to analyze, as we've obviously prepared paperwork and made an offer; I've seen this before, you want to give your first choice every chance to land the job, but it backfires if it doesn't work out. Sucks.

Frost - "would've been done" in the sense he has no buyout, agreed. Actually, every other name on the list is (essentially) available. Which is why I think this one (Frost) hit the vetting wall earlier.

Littrell - same as with Frost, he's available. I think Littrell is suffering the effects of Candlemania (Mario is still screaming like a teenaged girl in 1964). Litrell has similar coaching resume attributes to Guidry, with some prior HC experience.

Nussmeier - can we just be honest, THIS ONE is more familiarity-based. I still think he is the worst name on the list.

Cam Turner/Spencer Whipple - I'm putting these guys together because I still like them as a package deal. Also available, may be a pivot choice.

Arroyo - stop trying to scare the natives. Also a "familiarity" choice.

I'd add in Johns, as I don't think he is super-UNavailable. Getting him out of Duke would be cheap-and-easy, on the level of Guidry's Tulane buyout.

Sooooo...in conclusion....I think the fact that the "most plausible list" is dominated by available names is less of a reflection that we are pursuing someone in the Super Bowl, or some mystery candidate, than it is the product of Mario pursuing Candle like he pursues recruits. He never gives up until a kid signs an LOI with someone else.

Just my take on the situaton. I'm not against Brian Johnson, I just don't think that's going to happen. I think the name is most likely to come from the list above, unless we manage to identify some talented guy who's had a really hard life for the last 12 years, and is available at bargain prices...

Probably because Mario was search for a dc a lot longer than two days

And also because Candle has been the primary OC candidate for a week.

We can all stand around and try to blame Mario or Candle or the gravitational impact of the moon, but while this week has passed, Candidates 2 though 10 have not gotten a rose.

OK just because there is literally nothing else to talk about.

If the conspiracy theories of Mario waiting for the Super Bowl to be over...here are a couple of "Joe Brady-esque" names

David Girardi- Pass Game Analyst and Asst QB's

Kevin Patullo- Passing Game Coord (went to Western @Coach Macho )

(hopefully me taking the time to look at their staffs, Mario can ruin it all the time but announcing the hire seconds after this post)

It has more than likely been speculated before... but wouldn't one assume that if Mario was in fact making overtures to Brian Hartline, he would also be interested in Littrell and Johns, as all three come from the Kevin Wilson tree?

Candle isnt worth half the amount of **** sucking we seem to be doing to recruit him. Im not going to speculate on timelines since I dont know, but there has to be a point in the courting where Mario has to have some pride and sound the alarm that maybe the fit isnt there.

Even in corporate hiring, there is a point where pulling teeth to hire a particular candidate is detrimental to the goal. Of course you want whomever you grade as the best. But there should be an element that said candidate should be excited about the opportunity and not pushed into the pool (a little dancing and negotiating not withstanding)
