Mario waiting to hear back from OC candidates….

Why's it a clown show? Because David Lake doesn't know who he's hiring or interviewing?

Not a soul knew he was hiring Guidry. People just need to accept the fact this dude has a very, very tight circle and nothing real leaks.
All for the very tight circle and no complaints over the lack of leaks. I wasn't meaning to say that the OC search specifically is a clown show, rather the state of the coaching staff in general at the moment. This is just a little different, to me, than when people were mistakenly calling our AD search a clown show before we hired Rad. We have stories, including from Feldman yesterday (who I am sure is not in the inner circle but he certainly is in some form of Mario's circle) about the lack of cohesion among the staff, coaches hating each other, coaches maybe being promised roles that they are not given, coaches deflecting to other programs, coaches not pulling their weight or wanting to recruit etc.

I have friends of other programs texting me all the time asking me what is going on. The optics of the staff right now are not great, both from the outside person looking in or from most of us diehards on this board reading stories and/or rumors. When you add 5-7 to the story, it's just not a great look all around right now. I mean now we are even seeing rumors Joe is dead weight and Mario brought him from Oregon. I want nothing more than Mario to build a cohesive and great staff and that is still possible but it is just hard to believe Mario is in the middle of executing some master game plan re the coaching staff right now based on everything since we hired him.

I believe it, I’m saying it’s Bogus and ****ed up. Also, very risky as candidates are very savvy the higher you go. I’m an owner myself so I’ve never been on the other side but I have had employees that 100% look up everyone that they are being interviewed by. Exec interviews get really in-depth and a brain drain is natural to a degree, but having the guy sit in is risky af. Not to mention you are ****** with people’s lively hoods. Also, not that we would ever find out your employer but I’m sure they would have appreciated you wording that differently as even if I interviewed this way, I sure as **** would never admit it.

1- It's pretty **** commonplace, believe me, I didn't invent it!

2- As I said in my OP, part of it was also to "build relationships." We actually ended up hiring one of the other people we interviewed for a different position a few weeks later, and offered another person a different job right there in the room (they declined because of geography). So I don't think I was messing with anyone's livelihood, I was giving people an opportunity, a chance to get in the room (there were times in my life I've scratched and clawed to get in, slim opportunity or not) even though anyone interviewing is putting themselves out there, regardless.

3- As I said, we had him in "some" of the interviews where it was appropriate. We're not dumb, and we had him join in progress. It was super productive. Also while this isn't promoting from within, there are plenty of examples of people interviewing others for jobs they end up taking themselves. This isn't that out of the box.

4- I am my own employer. I can word things however I want. I take care of my people, am charitable, am fair, but am also ruthless and seek every edge, as I expect my competition to. I sleep like a baby.

The Death Star was built faster than this hire.
Ok - gonna take a stab at it and put my Slurper hat on:

- Candle (would’ve been done)
- Frost (would’ve been done)
- Littrell (would’ve been done)
- Nussnut****tymier (would’ve been done)
- Cam Turner (would’ve been done)
- Arroyo (would’ve been done)
- Spencer Whipple (would’ve been done)

That obviously leaves a mystery candidate perhaps still coaching in the Super Bowl. If Mario indeed had talks with my #1 choice OC in Mullen for input as @TheOriginalCane has said perhaps he is getting the run down on someone. That someone;

Brian Johnson

(Disclaimer: I am just throwing **** against the wall. Mario was competent in hiring his new DC).
