That's the exception (and a particular case given that he was just there a year before), not the rule. IMHO.
I’m remember when people on here said Longo was never leaving UNC

Leftwich, Bieniemy ...seems like guys who get that track in the NFL strive to be NFL OC's and then HC's. have there been any black OC's of note? could be historical.
Very different situation IMHO. Miami and Mario haven't the same pull with those NFL names that they had with Dorsey.
forgot about those guys..Leftwhich, Bieniemy ...
Ok, whatever, if it is an NFL guy prepare to be disappointed because it won't be a big name (Brian Johnson IS a big name right now). You're sick! He hired a DC in 3 days after the Steele news.. there is a reason at play here.
He's a QB coachBrian Johnson isn’t winning the Super Bowl with the eagles and then going to Miami be our OC. No way
IMHO yes, that's why I don't want to think of NFL guys right now because I can only see young assistants or old retread that nobody wants for OC or HC jobs in the NFL.So it's like last year (the waiting) but worse (the likelihood).
I tend to be an Occam’s razor guy but Mario did move pretty quickly with the DC search. You could make the argument that waiting on an NFL guy is the Occam’s razor explanation for why the OC hasn’t been named yet. With this "waiting for the NFL" I think we are trying to give an unlikely explanation for Mario's thorough hiring process.
Occam's razor: Mario is just slow with interviews/hirings. There is no NFL guy we are waiting for IMHO.

exactly
If he’s making a significant offer then it’s very possible. I think people forget that Jedd Fisch propelled their OC role here into an OC role with the Jaguars. If they don’t get the roles they‘re looking for this years then this job would be a really good way to secure one next year or even elevate themselves to an HC. I think that especially in BrIan Johnson’s case that could be his exact plan.I don't know if any of that is true or not (that's not a criticism, just hear me out), but two consecutive years of "waiting for NFL guys to decide to come back to college" is a load of garbage that needs to be taken to the landfill.
There are legitimate NFL guys who come back to college for real reasons to work with younger players. It's sincere with Saban. And Carroll made it work for a while in an environment (Los Angeles) that didn't feel like a college town.
But this idea that already successful NFL guys who seem to like the NFL are just chomping at the bit for a chance to cycle back downward through the college ranks for a cup of coffee...is strange...
And, sure, Mario may really like these NFL guys. But this is not some common career path where Mario is justified in waiting months for the end of the NFL season.
Dan and Mario need to lay down the law. "Waiting for NFL Godot" needs to close immediately.
Could be, I don't pretend to have the truth in my pocket.I tend to be an Occam’s razor guy but Mario did move pretty quickly with the DC search. You could make the argument that waiting on an NFL guy is the Occam’s razor explanation for why the OC hasn’t been named yet.
this should take us to 300
