The Miami Job

D,who are a 2-3 guys you'd like us to call up if/when the job comes open?

Petrino would be my first choice. He'd need some help recruiting, but this program needs a true-blue coach. I like the chip on his shoulder, and he wants the job.

I think Chud can be successful with the right staff. He's been out of the college game for a decade. I don't know if this is realistic from the administration's standpoint, but something like Cristobal at OL (I've heard Chud and Kehoe don't get along), Hurlie, Barrow, Kevin Patrick, Coley (he's close to Cristobal and can learn from Chud) and Chud's old boss, Butch, as defensive coordinator.

All would be well & fast IF they would pull the trigger on Petrino

I think as fans we all agree with, unfortunately our last three hires have been Coker, Shannon and that guy from Temple. Explain that.

Bad hires. Texas had a parade of bad coaches before Mack Brown. Same with USC before Carroll. Same with LSU before Saban. Same with Alabama before Saban.

Did those jobs get better? No. The coaches got better.

But the game is played by the players.

What point are you trying to make? LSU is a great job because Louisiana produces great players. USC is a great job because California produces great players. Texas is a great job because Texas produces great players. Miami is a great job because Miami produces the best players.

The coach's job is to evaluate, recruit and coach the players. That's where Miami has failed the past decade.

Well, glad to see some of those words from you. One problem remains: regardless of what we're setup to do, what do the decision-makers want this program to become? Everyone can tell me how the leadership cares deeply about winning and all that, but at what point do we need to see the actions and evidence behind that?

That doesn't take some cookie-cutter moves and bringing out the FBI playbook to address the situation. I think it takes guts. It takes a deep look at what this program was built on. I don't believe it was built on incremental progress and improvement. As we've quickly learned, it wasn't supported by 8 pillars. The brand isn't about the videos, the talk and logos. This program was built on and launched by a mentality that has to permeate all levels. Aggression. Forward thinking. Whatever happens going forward, it needs to flow into that type of dynamic. You know who'll succeed in that environment? All those guys from all those neighborhoods mentioned in the original post.

The next important piece of evidence we need to see is that the Administration will not be satisfied with incremental progress. If the University of Miami remains conservative in their approach, I fear it will never again become the Miami Hurricanes most of us grew up on.

dmoney, you said petrino wants the job, what makes you believe this? Just based off coming to a bigger program or you actually heard something?

Great fluckin post Lu

If we were to hire Butch or Patrino it would say a lot in terms of UM's committed to winning. Both of these guys have dirt but there is no question they can win. As a Falcons fan Butch would be my first pick.

If Miami wants to keep a head coach only the NFL could take them. Golden has some weird obsession with Joe P. Olive Garden doesn't have that and outside of Alabama and Texas we can pay a head coach just as well as anyone.
