The Miami Job

First day off the dead period now this ****?

I wonder how many bridges golden has burned with this type of departure? No college in the country, especially in the east, can ignore florida and expect to win big. I'm interested to see how coaches in the tri county area who had their prized recruits handed to him will react

I appreciate your optimism. But lets look at the cons.

Stadium is a ghost town down the stretch
Inept AD and president
Limited budget as far as paying coaches and assistants
Higher academic requirements
Stadium is not on campus and further away than the OB was.

Echo Danny's sentiment. Perhaps the most disappointing thing about Golden's potential departure is the hollow feeling I get from his own lack of commitment in staying to get the job done... He leaves and all he has preached to fans, donors, players, recruits is bull****. I do t care if its penn state, he always said hed be here for a long time. No he jumps at a scandal, probation laden program

Hope it ain't true, but longer this lasts, the more hope I lose

I take it you're not very high on Golden D$?

Disappointed is the right word. He seems more interested in upholding the legacy of a pedophile-protector than winning national championships.

D, with all due respect, I don't think Golden has the mindset flexible enough to win big here. He's made a lot of mistakes, and appears too stubborn to correct those mistakes. Including his idea of what a Miami National Championship team plays like.

I want him to take that Big10 Mindset back to the Big10. So we can get a intuitive, knowing coach who goes all out to win.

The game is played by players. The best players in the world live in the neighborhoods surrounding that ****** stadium.

Thank you.

Outside of Texas, Miami may be the easiest place in the country to take a team to a national championship.

Nobody considered Butch, or Coker, or Erickson some amazing coach and they all either won or created a National Championship. You don't even have to be that great of a coach to win here. All you gotta do is recruit well and hire a good staff and this program can basically be run on auto-pilot.

D,who are a 2-3 guys you'd like us to call up if/when the job comes open?

I have to laugh when posters say that Miami isn't a great job. Apparently if a fat fool like Mark May says something enough, people start to repeat it.

Here are the facts. Miami had three coaches IN A ROW win the national championship. The fourth guy went to the NFL before he could win his. The fifth guy won a national championship despite being incompetent. The sixth guy will never be a head coach again because he somehow failed at Miami. The seventh guy is parlaying a couple good press conferences into a raise and his dream job.

The Miami job isn't for everyone. Some people prefer Big Ten mediocrity and fake morals. But if you want to be great - historically great - there is no job with as high of a ceiling as the University of Miami.

I think as fans we all agree with you, unfortunately our last three hires have been Coker, Shannon and that guy from Temple. Explain that.

But how are we suppose to expect championships when the admin is aiming towards just settling? They did that with Randy Shannon and they did that with Al Golden. Yes the recruiting grounds in South Florida is furtile. Look at what UCF did this year. They managed to get to a BCS game with mostly two and three star recruits. Miami is a bigger name and they have yet to even appear in their conference. Something is wrong at the University of Miami if a team like UCF is in a BCS bowl over Miami.

As long as you know who is making the hires, expect to see more mediocre and disappointing coaches.

Coker and Shannnon were just easy hires. They were already on staff and were close to the program so we just took the easy route as opposed to really trying to identify the best candidate.

Bad hires. Texas had a parade of bad coaches before Mack Brown. Same with USC before Carroll. Same with LSU before Saban. Same with Alabama before Saban.

Did those jobs get better? No. The coaches got better.

And you think our Admin. makes the correct hire this time? I sure hope so but I won't be holding my breath.

Petrino would be my first choice. He'd need some help recruiting, but this program needs a true-blue coach. I like the chip on his shoulder, and he wants the job.

I think Chud can be successful with the right staff. He's been out of the college game for a decade. I don't know if this is realistic from the administration's standpoint, but something like Cristobal at OL (I've heard Chud and Kehoe don't get along), Hurlie, Barrow, Kevin Patrick, Coley (he's close to Cristobal and can learn from Chud) and Chud's old boss, Butch, as defensive coordinator.

If Blake James was smart ... Butch would be the first call. He'd be cheap and you already he is solid

butch wouldnt have played aj or kacy over jamal carter even if he was a freshman. he wouldnt have played jimmy gaines over kirby. I remember when he gave dorsey a shot which means ryan williams probably would have gotten a chance.
