The Importance Of A Demanding Base

One question for you! Are you a season ticket holder?

Whether I pay $850 for season tickets or buy per game or give 10k to school a year what does that have to do with anything?

It matters if you actually bother to pay money to support the team and show up to games, or whether you simply sit behind your computer and complain without actually putting your money where your mouth is.

We have a lot of message board "fans" who don't give a dime, don't buy tickets, etc, but they still think UM owes them something.

Not because someone doesn't work out in one instance doesnt mean they wont work in another. It doesnt mean they went and did the same thing they were doing before that got them fired. They review and learn, sometimes reinvent themselves. This is reality for people who labor for a living daily. Only coaches are mourned for when they get fired. Bellicheck and Pete Carroll both got fired. And yeah, Shannon may have been shortsighted for firing the guy after 1 year, but No D has had 3....3 years. Thats enough time to show some improvement, its been a plummet and clear regression. And btw Our defense actually got better in Randy last 2 years under John Lovett #1 in the ACC in his last year, with a very challenging schedule.

But how do you know they wouldn't have been better had Walton been kept? You don't.

Anyhow, about D'onforio having 3 years. Well he has a prior history with Golden at Temple where they managed to get to a #17 total ranked defense his 4th year. So there is a prior history of success that can be drawn upon to justify some patience.
Next year will be there 4th year. If there is one thing that implementing the type of defense they want to implement is that it's not a quick fix and that it takes veteran players to be successful in it. Unfortunately the veteran players he had weren't very good.
But I think the thinking among them is that once they get the depth and experience levels they where they want them this defense can be successful. Especially when you add the talent that they're able to bring in. But like I said it takes time. And time is something this fan base doesn't want to spend.

I agree. Also, we have to stop comparing apples to oranges. This is a different team, different time, different players, different everything. Some coaches come into the perfect situation ala Coker. Some coaches come into a s*** storm ala Golden. All of these comparisons are not equal.

Yeah but you guys come in and blame Shannon without remorse for F'ing up everything. Like he got a stock cupboard from Coker, but never want to blame Golden. Let me remind you, it was quite difficult to recruit when Shannon came in. People were using Bryan Pata and Sean Taylor's murder on the recruiting trail. That was just as hard as the NCAA mess. Go tell kids parents, their kids are gonna get murdered at a particular institution and see how many sign their kids up to play. No one talks about the kids who got away because of that. But when it came down to it, in year 4 Shannon was judged on his record and run out of town. But Golden is this sympathetic poor guy figure.

Dude, you're wayyy off base.

Yes, the Pata and Taylor murders caused a bit of stir. But it's easy to combat any negative recruiting about that by showing stats about just how safe Coral Gables is. You show the murder rate in the Gables versus the murder rate in Tallahassee, for example...and it's higher in Tallahassee.

It's a lot harder to try to convince a kid to come to UM when people are speculating that UM will get the death penalty, and there's nothing coaches can do or say, because even THEY don't know what punishment's coming down the pike.

What ever your opinion....it was a fact that players left Miami because of the murders. Major Wright for example. Way off base my ***. Just as always short memories. Because Shannon came in with the 2001 team and situation. Shannon had a rosie *** situation and Golden faced a storm of sheet. So its harder to recruit to people saying their program is gonna get massive scholly loss and bowl bans. Parent asks, " is this fact?" coach replies " No, but its possible" , but easier to recruit to," Dont send your kid there, he will get murdered, they just had two players shot and killed. If you love your kid don't send him to Miami....he wont come back". Parent ask "is this true?" Coach replies, don't take my word, here is the report and the articles, news papers, ESPN etc etc". Great

Like I said, there are facts and figures which show that Gables is safer than many other college towns. There are no facts and figures you can use when you're in the middle of an NCAA investigation and have no idea whether UM will even be able to field a team next year.

what you say doesn't add up since South FLorida is Miami's recruiting base. They know what it's like.
It's not like Shannon was going into homes up north or in the midwest where parent of these kids would likely read more into these murders, but he wasn't.. He was hitting up liberty city for talent. GTFOH

I'm going to call BS on this. We are not all blessed to have well paying jobs and I'm not playing the elitist card if someone can't give like I can. A fan is a fan. I've been on these board way to long to start going down that path.

And I'm going to call BS on your calling BS. Fans can get tickets on Stubhub for $10 for most games, and while that's obviously not going to be a big boost for the Athletic Department bank account, it would go a long way to supporting the team, making players feel appreciated, giving potential recruits a good vibe, etc.

Instead, we've got 25k fans in a 75k seat venue, and fools on message boards still whining. Again, if you don't do your part to support the team in some way, you shouldn't be *****ing and moaning when we lose out on a recruit, or have to settle for a no-name coach, etc...

I live in DC, how many games per year do I need to attend in order to meet the mandatory minimum requirement to voice my displeasure with the football program?

If you can't get to games, then give the money you would normally spend on tix to the UM athletic dept. 50 or 100 bucks isn't going to break the bank. Quit with the excuses and support the ******* team.

If you want it to change, yes. Your money is what enables a new hire, new facilities, etc.

Good luck with your smart rational line of thought, OP. Most of these mummies and zombies would love to star in Two Fans and a Cup with Fat Al cranking out the toothsome delicacies.

Most of the zombie set will worship a Corch over the program EVERY **** time. They did it with Coker and Shannon, and they're doing the same thing with their new cult leader. It'll take guys like us who demand excellence from this storied program to force necessary changes.

Funny, because at every other school, when donors/boosters don't like what's happening, they stop writing checks.

LMAO...demand excellence indeed. You guys are a hoot. Don't give a dime, don't show up to games, but you DEMAND to see a good product. What a joke.

Funny, because at every other school, when donors/boosters don't like what's happening, they stop writing checks.

Considering we're not every other school, we don't have a large donor base, and the fans that we DO have don't give money or show up to games anyway, it's not exactly an analogous situation.

Not only that, but donors/boosters at other schools actually do not stop writing checks when they don't like what's happening. They write bigger checks to buy out the contracts of coaches they want to replace, and then they write even bigger checks so that they can hire a big-name coach.

LMAO, have to love the so called fans that blame the fans for the incompetent product on the field. Good God how the mighty have truly fallen.

Same sort of dudes who would dig their own graves before Vito greased them and then just shoved them in the hole. Jellyfish.

You sure do. If you ever get poisoned at a restaurant, it's your duty to return the next day for another tainted meal.
