The Importance Of A Demanding Base

Good Lord we have some soft shouldered mother****ers in here. Really, blaming the fans and attendance for the product on the field. What will you blame next... Not the right beer served at the game. Truly pathetic.

Reading comprehension's not your strong suit, I guess.

No one's "blaming fans and attendance for the product on the field." What I'm saying is that if jokers are going to try and act all alpha on a message board and talk about "DEMANDING" this and that, they should be putting their money where their mouth is. We got a lot of dudes who talk tough and don't do **** when push comes to shove...and it sounds like you're probably one of them.

Right, because giving money to a program is a sure sign to the people in charge that one is unhappy with the product. It doesn't incentivize the administration to keep up with the mediocrity or anything. I mean, gee, let's change things when we are getting money regardless. That makes a lot of sense.

Like I said earlier, you clearly don't understand how things work.

At any other school, if people want a change to be made, they cut a check to the Athletic department to fund that change.

Want to fire the current coach and get a new big-name coach? You need money to buy out the current coach's contract, and lots of money to front the new guy's contract.

Want better facilities to keep up with the big programs, or maybe a new stadium? You need money. Cash in hand. It takes your $$$ from ticket sales and donations to make that happen.

Instead, at UM we've got a bunch of message board All-Americans who don't go to games anyway, don't donate money, but still act like UM owes them a winning program and get all puffed up about "demanding" stuff. Then they talk about WITHHOLDING money and NOT going to games as though that's the way to make change happen. Sorry, guys. If you withhold your money, then UM has less impetus, less ability to make any improvements.

NO, you don't understand how things work. We don't have a big school booster support system. Who stepped up to pay Cokers buyout? Shannon's? No one. The admin is just as guilty for the situation we find ourselves in. Had they made a good hire to begin with we wouldn't be 3 time losers as we are now.

Uh, I know we don't have a big school booster system. I know that people like you never give any money anyway...and that's part of the reason we're always stuck paying for low-end coaches like Coker, Shannon, and Golden...praying that we can find a "diamond in the rough" that will take minimal pay for a chance to coach here.

And then I come on here and read the whining of people like you, who complain that "the admin" won't hire a big name guy. Duh...WTF do you expect them to do when no boosters give any money, and no one buys tickets to games even when we win?

LOL, what do you give fix-it-all fan? Why are you wasting your time on this board when you have all the money to fix all this. You made a comment earlier in the thread about look in the mirror. Take your own advice. As for some big name coach, that isn't how the U rolls. It really is too bad we don't have Sam around anymore to actually fix this. But then again you don't even know who Sam is or our the history of what made the U to begin with. So carry on blaming the fan base for the product on the field.

First off, I've been a fan since 78. My dad was an alum...so don't give me this crap about "you don't even know who Sam is or our history..." What a joke.

Second, I do take a look in the mirror. I only give a small amount, and I live in NC, so I go to a few away games but can't make it down to any home games.

Thing is, I don't whine incessantly like superfans like you. I don't get upset when we can only afford to pay a coach a mediocre salary. I don't get upset about playing in Dolphin Stadium. I don't whine about Shalala hating football. I don't complain about our entrance requirements. These are the cards we're dealt, and I can live with it, in the present, instead of whining and wishing we still had Sam Jankovich to magically solve everything.

Yeah, I get upset when we lose. I want D'Onofrio fired. I'm on my last leg with Golden in general. But I'm not going to "DEMAND" anything, because I'm in no position to demand anything. I'm still going to buy away game tickets, and I'm still going to watch on TV, and I'm still going to give a couple hundred to UM each year, because I'm a die-hard fan and always will be. And I know that my $$, however little it may be, is going to support the U...it helps enable us to afford the paltry amount we can pay for coaches, and it helps in a small degree to pay for an athlete's scholarship, and it helps in some small degree to keep the lights on in the stadium.
