Wasn’t penciling the losses not a thing to do before Mario.
Again I’m not trying to defend Mario I’m just trying to see how kiffin would be the clear choice over Mario. He has alot of resources at ole miss and it depends what you want to quantify as successful. Seems he has a higher floor but it also seems he’s capped out .
His 4th season being most successful imo but couldn’t get over the hump of that Georgia super team (not that anyone could).
I did really want him here and I wouldn’t even be upset if he came here. This season he just put out to me doesn’t seem like he’s the answer here either. In a sec without saban or a good Georgia team I thought he really dropped the ball with the roster he has.
I don’t know what the answer would be after but I just don’t think it’s plug and play kiffin.
Bro,
I’m just in it for the entertainment now. Been that way since after Shannon. If UM was going to keep going after cheap coaches, I wanted Mike Leach back in 2011 and again after Golden. Recruiting would be a disaster (probably in the 15-20 range), team would have explosive offenses and bad defenses but it would be fun to watch. Hey wait a minute..
But I also liked that Leach was a giant killer, I recall seeing some absurd stat that said something along the lines that Leach had 6x more wins against teams with higher ranked recruiting classes than the next coach on the list (Wittingham I think). We definitely experience heartbreak but I’d feel like he could have had a genius gameplan up his sleeve when facing better opponents. If we we were destined for failure anyways, it would be more interesting if it ended in a spectacular explosion than a whimper.
Call me crazy but going from 10 wins to 12-0 and getting screwed out of the playoffs , and then having a 2 win season the next year would be more interesting as college football fan than expecting to cap out at 10 wins maximum, at least with the former you don’t know what the f#ck you are going to get year to year so you can delude yourself into believing another 12-0 season was on its way.
I think Kiffin would be similar except better recruiting (10-14 range) and much better defenses. IMO that could be competitive for ACC championships.
It just sucks a lot that every UM fan knows deep down that Cristobal isn’t going to ever win a game due to superior coaching. It’s all based on talent acquisition. And if the talent isn’t there, he’s f#cked. And that isn’t entertaining.
