well the optics are this- almost all coaches will lose a game or two they shouldn’t somewhere in their career. Most reasonable fans are aware of this.
The problem is Cristobal has lost a game to an inferior opponent literally every season of his career, so fans are always waiting for it to spoil a season , and it always happens.
Kiffin has lost games he shouldn’t but he also has had seasons where his teams took care of business and only lost to much more talented squads. Like just last year. Only 2 losses were to Bama and UGA. Can’t complain about that. Zero losses to mediocre or bad opponents in a very tough conference.
So an Ole Miss fans can have faith that a Kiffin coached team will go into games against Cuse or GT level opponents and have a reasonable expectation that Ole Miss will win. Now it may not happen and Ole Miss loses those games, but generally it’s viewed as a surprising upset as Kiffin typically has his teams prepared and has a good game plan. Fans don’t go through their schedule and automatically write in an L next to Kentucky or other average SEC opponent.
On the flip side, when the UM schedule comes out- what does every single UM fan do? We always pencil in 1-2 losses to a mediocre team. ALWAYS. We know it is inevitable.
That’s what the difference is. The problem with Cristobal isn’t that we lost two games we shouldn’t, the problem is we KNEW it was going to happen and is always going to happen.
