Talk lately has me a little nervous about 2020 football season. Thoughts?

Do you think we will play football in 2020?

I can't with the hypotheticals. That opens the door for all kinds of BS. Type of stuff that has people believing ancient aliens...

Good point. I retract my bad optics argument. Shooting up poor black kids with experimental vaccinations so they can entertain us by playing football for no pay while their classmates wear masks and socially distance, and we stay home because it's too dangerous to attend the games is very good optics.
Still with the racist "poor black kids"

I don’t know where you get the “insolent” perception.

That wasn’t my state of mind when I was writing that, nor was it my intent.

As far as vaccines? I have a little bit of knowledge in what it takes to get a vaccine to market. From having an actual viable candidate, to mass production, would be sometime mid to late 2021, that is an absolutely breakneck pace with a ton of lucky breaks, and to my knowledge has never been done in such a short time frame.

My opinion is based on actual facts, and knowledge of the regulatory, scientific, and approval process.

For a fairly comprehensive review of where we stand, current candidates, and the likelihood of an actual vaccine being available in the near future, read the following:

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41573-020-00073-5

Best case scenario: early 2021 for emergency use (no mass production) and then hopefully widely available possibly as early as summer 2021 to the end of the year.

Keep in mind that would almost be miraculous result. With no snags along the way.

We have to be realistic here. As far as the football season is concerned, the vaccine is not going to be a factor. And that was my point.

So, yes, we need a miracle.

We don't need a miracle, we just need an effective treatment, or rather an assortment of effective treatments. If we can further reduce the death rate for those that catch it, then people can feel more comfortable going out with the knowledge that, if they do catch it, the worst case outcome is unlikely (even more than at current), and the next worst case is really just a rough few days with proper medical care.

If we ever get a vaccine, you are correct that it will take significant time, and won't factor in to football season. That's if we even do get a vaccine (which I think we will, but it's not a certainty).

It is amazing how fast scientist, universities, and drug companies are coming up with new positive developments. Operation Warp Speed is working on getting a vaccine developed. It could bee ready as early as September or October four front line and essential personnel. I think that college football athletes are, or at least should be, considered essential personnel.

I thought this was nuts the first time I read it. The part about a vaccine by this fall, that is. But just a moment ago on CNBC Dr Gotleib just gave creedence to the possibility that there will be a vaccine that the Brits are working on right now which could be approved for emergency use as early as September. If that Debbie Downer mope thinks it's possible, then it must be.

Absolutely 100 on football players being essential personnel. I'm glad somebody finally said it.

For the sports enthusiast sanity? They're more than definitely essential...

In my opinion, I think they have games with no fans. Some revenue is better than no revenue, secondly, the longer people go without sports the longer people will go without missing them. Especially if it's a team that struggles to win it will probably be a kiss of death for some programs.

Never doubt Canedog again,friend.

Yes, sir, I have made a note.

You will have to forgive me if I slip up though. I find the best way to go through life is to have an etch a sketch brain when it comes to message board interactions. You can see the people on here who get in their feels about certain handles and it clearly is not of benefit to their mental health...

This is just the very tip of the iceberg. Not sure if these will go anywhere, but "entertainment " will be effected significantly. Also not sure how they can allow "student" atheletes on campus but not students. Seems like all kinds of asking for legal issues, of all types.. https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/First-wave-of-virus-litigations-are-filed-15241175.php

Hopefully and thankfully these lawsuits will go nowhere.

I believe any future stimulus legislation will include indemnity for employers.

For a young healthy person to take a barely tested vaccine is nuts. The risks far far outweigh the benefits.

Assuming there is some sort of vaccine produced by the fall - very highly unlikely - there is no way on earth you could have collected enough safety data in such a short period of time, to make it risk effective in a healthy population. The actual vaccine would pose much more risk than the actual coronavirus itself for that patient group.

Absolutely not a good idea. Probably just to safer to play Russian roulette.
