Surtain sr

[TWEET]954456398947147777[/TWEET]

Supposedly interviewed for a on field position at bama.... richt come on hire him if he’s available. Move is there to be made

Would rather have rumph at cb and surtain coaching the safety position. Move Banda to linebacker and special teams coordinator giving him a raise
PeterAriz dropped a note that Miami made a DEF QC hire that they will announce on signing day. We could have just taken Bama's queen bruhs. #Checkmate

If we hired him for a not-on-the-field position.... QC included.... then we wouldn't be allowed to take Surtain Jr, or Campbell, or Nesta, or any other AH recruit for the next 2 years.

NOT HAPPENING.

Correct. I completely misconstrued the rule.

Low-IQ posts are what keep me coming back for the laughs.... man you guys are amusing.

Can one of you rocket scientists please explain how NOT giving surtain sr the job.... he interviewed and was then passed over.... in what way would that HELP alabama in the recruitment of his son?

if anything, surtain turned it down

I'm thinking it either went down like Franchise said, or Alabama knew they weren't giving Surtain the job from the jump but they gave him a courtesy interview so as not to **** off the head coach of a major South Florida high school.

Either way, it doesn't help Alabama.

Article was a good read. Forgot Satan in his Dolphins debacle, was the one who traded away Surtain to the Chiefs

Just to play Devil's advocate (and with no information to confirm any of the below)...

If: (1) Surtain Sr. knew from the beginning that Alabaga was hiring Karl Scott, (2) Alabaga was honest with Sr. before the interview, (3) both parties agreed an interview from Alabaga might raise Sr.'s profile, and (4) Alabaga brought Sr. in for an "interview" as a favor. Under that particular set of circumstances, it might be somewhat positive for his recruitment.

Exactly. It's like The Rooney Rule where guys take interviews for jobs they know are already filled (or they don't necessarily even want) just to get the interview experience and raise their profile. I have no idea if that's what happened here but if Surtain Sr. does want to get into coaching there are worse things in your bio to have than "was in the running for a position coach job at MIGHTY Alabama".

THIs is recruiting today boys. Now that we know Surtain Sr. Interviewed why hasn’t Richt done so to? Of all people Rumph should know if sr wants a job.

Could be, but I usually go with the simplest answer.

In this case, he interviewed because he wanted the job and thought he had a shot... makes more sense.

The OP made it sound like Alabama was minutes away from hiring Patrick Surtain Sr. and bringing his son along with him.

My "low IQ" comment was just to throw ice water on the thread... becuse you know it would have gone on for several pages with people thinking that Surtain Sr was signed sealed and delivered to Alabama.

Had to put a stop to that.

**** bruh. Just when you thought you had it Alabama resorts to dirty tricks. If they can't get a kid using money then they use their family to get the kid by bribing them with money or giving a fam member a job on staff.

They gonna secure Surtain Jr. commitment then give Surtain Sr. some bullshet position.

They can't. New NCAA rules forbid a school to get a player by hiring a parent (maybe other family members too?), unless it's one of the 10 coaches. Which Alabama no longer has any vacancies for.

Didn't mean to DV. Because you're right.

How much does a fake interview raise the profile of a former all pro DB that coaches at one of the highest profile schools in Florida, with a top 5 recruit for a son?

Shortest interview in history: “Can you deliver your son and Campbell, and would you mind being DB Coach in name only as Sabag runs the DBs completely? If the answer is yes you’re hired.”

Surtain: “can’t guarantee Campbell.”

Sabag: “ok. Thanks.”

Karl Scott hired 5 minutes later.

Franchise,
I was wondering the same thing. How could he be turned off if he interviewed.

I had no idea Saban traded Surtain. Things like that usually aren't forgotten. We got ourselves a lot of clarity. Not only did this interview happen awhile ago it seems, it actually happened BEFOORE Jr. gained all this interest in us, which was Monday. Surtain sr. interviewed simply to keep a guy like Saban happy? Why you may ask? Because he is a HS coach, and he has players he has to look out for and one day they may want a Bama scholly and keeping a good relationship with colleges is a HS coach's job.

This nugget makes me even more confident in Jr. Surtain isn't going to go coach there, and I don't think he wants his son going there either. The trip to LSU did not go as planned and so they realized Miami might be the move because Bama isn't the spot.

Like some of us have said for awhile, Miami has a LEGIT shot, and the timeline shows it. You wanna keep denying it go for it. But when the 4 horsemen come home, yall will know.

Because UM doesn’t enjoy the luxury that the locals afford to non-local programs. UM can’t interview a guy like Surtain then not hire him. All **** would rain down on UM. Whereas Sabag can trade him, interview and not hire him and still get an OV from his son.

Real talk: If Senior was willing to parlay the AH 4 into a DB coach gig he’d have over a dozen of the top 20 programs banging his door down to hire him.

I highly doubt the dude is looking to do fake interviews to raise his profile.

guys in this thread remind me of people that open up the publishers CH stuff and see " You've won 50 million dollars or 10 grand a week for life" and go ape ****.

then they read another paragraph and see " if your name is drawn out of 500 million names in the drawing"

Thats probably what happened chise is on the money

Yep, I'm sure Surtain wanted the job. But I'm also pretty sure Saban asked him to guarantee his son and Campbell. Once Surtain said he couldn't do that, the rest was a formality

We can't even do that with high school coaches without Surtain's name ID and resume and not get major blowback from the dregs in South Florida posing as faux Canes fans and the general fraternity of high school coaches here that hold us to a completely different standard. Funny how they're a bunch of cucky sissies when dealing with all these out of state college coaches but then when Miami does ANYTHING they don't like they run to social media and any radio outlet that'll give them a voice to ***** and make threats.

*obviously not all of them but a sizeable enough of a contingent to make it nauseating.

GTFOH. Richt should not hire anyone's father just to get the son as a recruit. i would be disappointed if that occurred. there are limits, and that's one of them.
