Started watching VTech games...

Man, this should be an interesting game for Morris.

They mix and match their zones really well. And, I don't mean on different plays alone. On one side of the field, they play one coverage and on another side they play man or some variation. They stack the box with defenders, but keep 5-6 DBs in the game. They do a lot of cool things with their defensive backfield, which I guess makes sense since they have at least 4-5 future NFL-caliber players there. Along their front, everyone is going upfield hard.

Coach Coley needs to play a huge role here in simplifying Morris' looks/reads. We didn't do anything too complex against FSU, and maybe I'm off here, but I'm more concerned about this defense than FSU's.
I wouldnt be more concerned about their defense then FSU's but you should be concerned because I dont know if we can put up more than 28 on them. I think we will put up a bunch of yards but they get us with turnovers. Really anxious to see how we come out swinging in this one.....

They have a better defense imo and they are more aggressive.

Forget about 28 points, I think we struggle to score 17 if we don't get some help (ST, turnovers). Their offense is garbage though so I do not think we need to score much to win.

VT's defense IS better than FSU's.

Look at what they did to Bama.

I think it depends on the matchup, but I hear ya. There are some teams that would really bother VTech that would bother FSU less. I look at Hagens as a legitimate weapon this week. Hope Coley does as well. I think we need more than 24 points to win. Where can I sign off on a 27-23 win?

We need to score a defensive or St's td in this one IMO. Beamer ball hasn't been good in a long time and we really need to take advantage of that.

Just gonna post this, a ST score would be huge in this game. Thomas throwing a pick 6 would also help. I have a bad feeling about this one, I just have visions of Morris throwing costly pick after costly pick.

Logan Thomas is still their QB. We got this.

2011 vs Miami: 23 of 25 / 310 yards / 3 tds / 0 int

(Last year stats: 19 of 37 / 199 yards / 0 tds / 2 int)

I remember them doing something similar in the 2004 Brock Berlin game. They used man coverage on the single WR out wide and played zone against the rest. Confused the **** out of Berlin and cost him the ACC POY probably. Cost us the ACC title too I think.

can't stand the hokies, but I'm a big fan of fosters D. even when he doesn't have the horses, he'll still bring pressure, different looks etc... if they're going down, they're going down swinging..

Morris vs VT in his career:

28-61 46%, 372 yards, 3 TD, 3 INT

Inconsistent (there's a big f-cking surprise)

A lot of the bad was from that g-d awful game when he was a true freshman in 2010 though. He was 15-33 for 202 yards with 1 TD and 3 INT that game. Last year he was 13-28 for 170 with 2 TD and 0 INT. Jacory was 13-21 for 277 with 3 TD and 0 INT in 2011 against them.

Morris' completion % was below 50% last year against them too. The difference was he didn't toss any picks in that game. His efficiency has always suffered against good defenses....VT twice, Notre Dame last year, FSU, UF this year..

I'm expecting a low completion % game from Morris this Saturday. We can live with that though if he isn't turning the ball over and we're running the ball effectively while playing strong defense.

For many reasons I think it's really important that we score first, which means we're probably going to need a great effort out of our offensive line. We're going to have to ride our running game as much as possible and hope to wear them down. Because of our struggles on offense we need our defense to really step up. I watched the Blue Devils limit VT's already limited offense up in Blacksburg, and whatever deficiencies we have I know we have better athletes than Duke.

As far as Steven is concerned, if he plays really poorly (multiple costly turnovers), I really believe the Don will sit him. Coach Golden intimated as much after the UNC game. There is still too much on the line.

Creating running lanes will be huge this game.

Last year the Morris and the Canes didn't have a 3rd conversion until the 4th quarter! If that is the case... Miami will lose this year!

The OL must show up and open holes continuously.

BC put 34 f**king points on them and we are acting like a bunch of pussies.

Its really sad.

I think you need to look closer at the game and how much their offense blew it for them (see below).

7 points were on a pick 6.

3 points came when the ball was intercepted and returned to the VT 15.

7 points came after Logan Thomas was tackled and fumbled on the VT 17.

http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/playbyplay?gameId=333060103&period=0

VT had 4 turnovers and 17 points came on those turnovers. BC had 289 yards and was 2 for 12 on 3rd down. BC didn't put up 34 points directly from driving the ball and scoring.

I know, but he threw 2 TD and 0 INT. I'll live with that.

I always agree with your post.. but I think you are missing the point here. I fully expect Logan Thomas to turn the ball over multiple times. I don't care where we cash in from, I just care that we cash in.

I understand what you are saying. I don't care how we win or how we score just WIN THE GAME against VT. My point is that VT's defense is legit and even though it appears that the let up 34 points against BC, it isn't entirely the defense's fault.

Logan Thomas becomes Mr. Special Ed if you get in his face and create pressure. He will have a turnover regardless but if you want to see that true Special Ed performance....get in his face and bring him down.

But yet they still won 30-12. It was 14-3 quick and we led comfortably most of the game without a 3rd down conversion. Sometimes stats are just stats.
