Stacy Coley Question

In the opinion of the board, how many other teams in the ACC would Coley be starting for as a true freshman?

Stacy Coley is going to be a great one but to act as if he is going to be the #1 guy as soon as the season starts is a joke, its like you all dont trust your own eyes or something.

Malcolm Lewis and Herb Waters are playmakers themselves, and Hurns, Dorsett, and Scott all can dominate a game on a given day.

I dont experct Coley to have a "big" season numbers wise at all just b/c of how great the talent is in front of him.

He would have a Sammy Watkins type year if it was just DeMari Jones and J. Carter in front of him...

Everyone always like the new guys. I trust the coaches to rotate the best combinations into the game. If Coley earns it in practice, and he can help the team more by being on the field, then so be it.

Agree.... and thats not a knock on those guys b/c i was really impressed from what I saw out of both Jones and Carter in the spring. Jones is going to be a real deep threat for us one day with his size at 6'4" and athleticism.

... it's just too much depth at the wide receiver position, this year. If Coley was a 2012 recruit it and came out last year it wouldve been a different story.

Coley would not start for FSU or Clemson as of this instant

FSU...Nope

Clemson...They don't have anyone besides Sammy that would keep him off the field

I personally think Miami's receiving corp is a deep as FSUs with one difference..... Miami actually uses most of the talent at the position.

As talented as the receivers are at FSU, they have had a number of guys that just sit on the bench for the most part.

Florida has some outstanding corners, possibly two future first rounders + a more than solid Watkins and Hargreaves. If Miami has trouble getting separation for a few quarters a can definitely see Miami throwing out Coley to see what he can do. Wouldn't that be interesting.

Hey Miami, what are your thoughts on going up against highly touted cornerbacks who are expected to go early in the following year's draft?

Amerson would be the 3rd maybe 4th best corner at Florida (They're that good). He was burned to **** by quicker receivers in the Tennessee game too; and not just the studs, he had white kids beating him on go routes.

I have a lot of confidence in our receivers but that might be the best corner group in the nation, it's going to be a battle. I'm just saying I can see Coley really get a shot if Florida starts to win that battle.

The last time they saw a combination of QB/WR's like ours...they got shredded like old files

i don't put too much on bowl games, the season serves as a bigger sample size. did you see what they did to A&M or UGA or Tennessee? all had better offenses and passing games than miami. fsu had a better offense as well and uf had no problems confusing manuel and frustrating him. we faced some very good offenses and passing games last year and the corners held it down, #2 in the nation in passing efficiency.

that said, i do believe miami will have the best passing game we will face this upcoming season. and i do believe if miami scores 24-27 they win, its my biggest concern for this upcoming game besides our lousy qb.

Not a big guy on statistics for offense or defense.

Bigger with analyzing personnel.

All those teams, much like Miami were great against bad defenses and sucked against good defenses.

Miami is the only one of them outside of A&M with everything back and some new additions like Sandland and Coley.

Miami is undoubtedly the most talented offense that UF will see in the 2012-2013 seasons

Purefoy, Watkins, and Roberson can COME GET SOME.

Good QB/WR play beats good secondary play all day.

Don't underestimate the impact of pass protection. Keep the QB clean and even an average player makes a secondary look pedestrian.

Which we saw continually every time we were on defense, making mediocre QBs look like Heisman candidates. If our O-line can protect Morris, we have enough talented receivers that at least one will get open every time no matter what secondary they play against.

i disagree, especially when you consider the draft picks from some of those offenses not only last year but going forward. a&m is going to have two top 5 picks on the line in addition to a bevy of skill talent. tennessee's receivers were two of the best in the country and their lines pass protecting was also one of the best in the country. uga has two 1st round caliber backs in marshall and gurley along with a 1st round qb in murray. i could go on and on. to say miami is 'undoubtedly' the most talented is more than a stretch. they are up there, but certainly not 'undoubtedly.'

but like i said i do believe miami will have the best we'll face this year. i believe some of those offenses have better/more proven units but i think miami as a whole gets the edge. it will all depend on coley.

and not being a smartass, but if you're not big on stats, how else are you judging production or personnel? they tend to go hand to hand. good personnel has good production which equals good statistics.

Football is a game in which the play is often made before "the play is made". Production is of course important, but this is very much a height/speed/weight game. Stats don't always bare that out.

If you're going up against a guy who is not even a tenth of the athlete that you are for 10 weeks, but in the 11th week you face someone who is a better athlete than you, should I expect that you will perform with the same level of proficiency as you did previously? That's why I'm not big on stats over personnel. The statistics can be manipulated due to someone's level of competition, whereas 6'3/210/4.3 plays anywhere. Of course, there needs to be some production to put a stamp on that, but I like to start with a guys physical attributes, because football after all, is the sport that relies the most on god-given abilities.

fair enough. i do believe miami's receivers vs. uf's db's will ultimately decide the game. i can't see uf winning if they allow the canes to put points on the boards, we just don't have that kind of firepower.

Sammy Watkins was/is elite, but Clemson also didn't have 5 guys ahead of him when he showed up. If Coley does what Watkins did he will turn our to be the best WR ever at Miami.
