Stacy Coley had 4 touchdowns and threw up the U

Good post.

I can understand what you're saying about our team not ebing there yet to absorb a personality like Coley.

Jerzey is 100% right on with that post. There's still a long way to go in overhauling the culture of this program when it comes to the players.

Not offering this kid would be Shannonesque.

This.

I don't care what his attitude problems are; if Golden is the leader that we think he is, and he's building the right kind of program and culture, one kid shouldn't even be a threat to tear that down.

You don't get it. He's simply not going to recruit kids like Marcus Forston. I bet in 2008, you would have ripped Shannon for not offering Forston a scholarship. Looking back now, it doesn't look so insane, due to the fact that Marcus didn't play hard all the time, and the coaching staff allowed him to play which sets a poor example for the rest of the team.

Golden doesn't have that culture in place yet.

1) There are STILL guys on this team who haven't bought in 100% to the way of doing things. They could go either way. When Al gets everything in order, he will then begin to take on those kids who may not be 100% in accordance with what Al wants. That's how ALL great coaches do it. Took Coach K 30 years to recruit someone like Austin Rivers. Belicheck won 3 Super Bowls before acquiring Randy Moss and Chad Johnson.

2) There no sense in wasting a scholarship on a kid who might come here and not like the fact that he isn't going to be handed a starting gig, and ultimately transfer.

I still don't think we have the leadership in place to absorb the "wayward personality" if you will. Once guys like Deon, Perryman, Kirby, Chick, Duke, and Malcolm Lewis get a hold of this team. The staff will begin to make more reaches.

I like the way they are handling this recruitment. I'm almost positive that they've Stacy what needs to happen for him to get that offer and if and when he does what's necessary, he will receive that offer. As I said before, Golden will re-evaluate him before this is all over.
Good post!Elite coaches dont turn down elite talent and expect to win,kid is mentioned in same breath as Sammy. The guy is 3 and done and 3 out of 3 years he will have a LEGIT QB(1 year SM,2year Olsen).I have yet to hear that kid has punched a teammate or blew off his coach. If you're a players coach you have no issues with players. If you think kid will take money STAY AWAY!

Dont care. You take a risk every class...just the way it is. Not everybody is gonna come in already in line with your values.

Either way, if the staff decides to offer and whether we have a strong chance or not, besides AJL I would only take Coley and nobody else unless one of the top kids in the country comes out of nowhere.

We are fine at WR. I wouldn't turn away a freakish talent, but I defer to Golden in recruiting matters. He hasn't given a reason not to yet.

Yeah OR he comes in and contributes right away and Miami has another big time offensive weapon on the field.. Elite talent is elite talent. I'd rather take my chances with a guy like Coley flaming out in two years than the possibility of JAG status by some guy filling a jersey for four years.

Dorsett...Hurns....Scott....I don't see any special ability in any of them. I would welcome Coley here.

Good post. Golden is still trying to establish his culture. The biggest negative I have read about this kid is him going Randy Moss and taking plays off. Don't know it that's accurate. But do the positive plays make up for the ones where the player disappears? Don't know how anyone can answer that.

60% chance he qualifies.

60% chance his additude doesn't hurt the team, causing a dismissal or other problems.

80% chance he pans out on the field/playbook etc.

Fyi I am completely making those percentages up by reading the Internet tea leaves just to give this example.

That would mean there is about a 28% chance this kid truly pans out, even with his abilities, and only a 36% chance that his kid gets in and doesn't **** up.

Can we afford those percentages right now?

Maybe. But put a 95 into the first two categories for a different kid and tell me who gets the ship?

Just illustrating some rationality into the disussion. I can see both sides of the equation but many coaches think real problematic kids can sink a program.

I'm no statistics major, but I want to know how all that adds up.

This is just a chance you take...hopefully he becomes a big time play maker...and if not well...I personally would rather take the risk of him becoming a JAG here than see him go on to be like a first round receiver out of fsu and look back and say....goddamnit why didn't we recruit this guy...i dont know about the rest of you guys but that's the worse for me

As Ridler illustrated, it's standard probability. 28% bets aren't good money. Now if you think those initial percentages are wrong and should be a lot higher (you being Golden), you recompute and take a kid if it adds up.

But maybe this will help a few peeps see why a coach with tight numbers would pass on a kid. I'm by no means saying feel and guts shouldn't be in the equation, btw. Just throwing some practical thought in this.
