Spring Practice dates are here!

### UM quarterback Kevin Olsen said he was told the quarterback job will be an open competition. But departing Stephen Morris said Thursday he has “no doubt” Ryan Williams will win the job.

Morris, who is training for the draft at Pete Bommarito’s Performance Center in North Miami Beach, said Williams will surprise people next season. “You don’t need a rocket arm to be a great quarterback,” Morris said. But Williams has improved his arm strength in the past year, which has coaches encouraged.

### On Monday, we mentioned you will be hearing a lot this year about five-star Coconut Creek Monarch prospect Calvin Ridley, rated the second-best receiver in the 2015 class. Ridley told canesport.com today that even though he was once leaning toward UM, that is no longer the case, without giving a specific reason. But UM remains one of many schools under consideration.

How is that an open competition if Morris is conceding that Williams will be the starter? Ridiculousness at it's best....blind loyalty to a senior is a hot dumpster mess.
Also, if Ridley wants to play games then so be it....I would leave him be and move on to the next recruit.

I don't think it implied blind loyalty to a senior. I think Morris gave an honest opinion that Williams will win the starting job because right now he is the best QB.

I can't be certain because I don't know the inner workings of the staff and who makes the decisions, but I say with a fair amount of certainty that Stephen Morris' opinion will not be factored into the decision of who the starting quarterback will be next season.

Also I hope that you never get a job at the university as the recruiting coordinator.

what do I want himto say....I WANT HIM TO STAY IMPARTIAL ABOUT THE SITUATION. If asked about the qb situation all he has to say is no comment and move on. Ryan Williams will be next starter count on it. Stephen Morris knows what this process crap means believe that. THE BEST MAN SHOULD WIN THE JOB. But, if that has been decided already then we are screwed, none of these guys rate that type of respect of say a Ken Dorsey.

and as far as never being a recruiting coordinator at the U, I'm fine with that....but remember you were warned about recruits that say this is my dream school and then won't even give the school the time of day. This Ridley fellow has been exposed, time to cut the ties and move on to the next recruit(s).

So you want the staff to quit recruiting possibly the best WR in the state because he didn't commit a year out from his signing day?

I will say it again. I pray that you never get a job at the university as a recruiting coordinator. This is now the second time you have made the comment about cutting ties with Ridley so you must be serious. You think it is a good idea to cut ties with possibly the best wide receiver in the ENTIRE NATION who has been a lifelong fan because he didn't commit a full year before his signing day??? What do you think that will accomplish? Do you think that the staff would be sending a message to the rest of the elite South Florida recruits..."You better get on board now or there won't be a scholarship waiting for you next February!!!" Yeah that will really work out in UM's favor. I feel like I am living in a Bizzaro World when I see comments like this.

SMH that is classic Shannon thinking. I can't count the number of times he refused to engage in a recruiting battle because he thought it was a privilege to get to attend the "U" and just straight did not want to work for it. Kids want to be recruited and being the home team gives us the advantage of proximity and that most of these kids grew up rooting for Miami. But you still gotta put in the work and out recruit other schools to secure that signature on signing day. With your line of thinking we never would have landed Tracy Howard, Stacy Coley and many others.

Jesus. That's a big *** kid.

Was thinking the same thing.
Both of them look like granite blocks.

I think Owens and Harris are pretty close in weight right now. They're probably both around 240.

I think OV came in at 250+ though.
