Spring Depth chart

they could easily have McCord practicing to rush the edge from a backer spot for when we show a 3-4 front. we are missing a few crucial LB's so it could be a depth thing too. bottom line is this is based off of effort in UTough and when effort may be equal the upperclassman (Highsmith) is going to get the nod. when spring practice ends this chart will have several moves and by the first game it will no doubt change again.

Guys this is just a reward for those who achieved the most during Utough as its been said.

I'd remind everyone that Spencer Whipple was #1 on the depth chart over Jacory and Morris at the beginning of Spring 2 years ago. A lot of this will change drastically after practice #1.

Not sure how anyone can like the McCord move. Our complete lack of pressure from the front four ruined us last season, moving our lead pass rusher to linebacker doesn't help. I hope it's a move because of numbers in spring or possibly giving McCord more looks at linebacker for 3-4 sets.

I can't believe anyone is concerned about a Spring Football depth chart.

I get it, guys are listed as starts or reserves based on effort during Utough.

But it's the position change I'm worried about. I doubt position is subject to change based on effort in the gym.

So you think the coaches are incompetent?

Maybe McCord didn't do what he needed to do in the offseason. We don't want a 230 lbs de out there.

I don't get this. I also don't get the whole "hes a hard gainer" theory either. The kid has gained over 21lbs in his first 9 months at UM. Season included. Came in at maybe 215 and Golden said he wants him at 245. Now he is 9lbs away in the spring of his freshman year. Give it time dudes.

It's quite the opposite. I'm was thinking the staff saw something in McCord that made them think he can't be a defensive end here in the long term.

I bet AQM is 245 by the time he steps foot on campus. Maybe coaches know he'll be physically ready before Cord, hence the move to LB?

AQM puttin up 405. Beast will be ready when gets here.

AQM is going to be a nightmare. Squatting 405 might not seem like a huge number but when you consider he is barely coming into his own physically, and was a bit of a tall skinny kid, that's pretty impressive. He is going to be a beast in the weight room by the time he is done here.

What would you say juniors and senior DE's are squatting at elite programs?

I would guess that range would be pretty wide. Figure double your bodyweight in the squat (proper full squat not that *** **** you see at the gym) is a good strong starting point. For an athlete it can obviously go a lot higher but there's a lot of factors involved.

AQM is a lean kid but just from following him briefly he works out like a beast, Jermaine Grace too. If he can squat that much weight at this point physically, you are going to see his #'s go up across the board quickly IMO. A squat just isn't about leg strength so a taller leaner kid should be struggling with it.
