Spoke to someone close to the Coley situation (non-Miami)

Remember people were whining to Kingdom Come when Fisch was hired. "Oh he sucked at Minnesota!". "Only one year of calling plays!" etc etc The moral of the story is, Trust in Albert Golden.

Remember two months ago when Fisch sucked; not my claim but it was a popular thought throughout the site.

For those pimping Coley, please elaborate on why u want him on staff.

TIA

Its not even about pimping Coley, its about shooting down the close-minded reasons why he shouldn't get the job. I'm not a coach. I won't be talking to him. I can't evaluate his vision or his teaching ability. But the reasons given for why he shouldn't be a candidate are fairly weak. Specifically when the guy who came before him that people are happy with had big issues surrounding him as well.

- Monster Recruiter
- Was Quality Control for Saban so he comes highly recommended

Don't have anymore information to work on than that and there is no more information for anyone other prospective candidates. Saying "we can do better", because he's an FSU guy, doesn't cut it. It's always very easy to say "we shouldn't hire this guy/we should fire this guy". Takes way more to say who you SHOULD hire.

I dont care. Fisch isnt on trial, Coley is. Fisch laid the groundwork for what we need at OC.

Miami can do better than Coley.

So then you were saying the same when Fisch was hired. Thanks for making our point.

No, not at all.

Fisch was coming from the NFL as a QB coach, I was fine with it.

Your inference skills are weak.

He was a QB coach for less than a season when Golden targeted him. None of the QBs he mentored for that season are even still on the Seattle roster.

I was more interested in the fact he was coming from the NFL.

Coley would be coming from FSU. Big difference.

Coley spent time in the NFL. Did he lose whatever magic the NFL bestows on you when you get there?

Can we please not be dense and compare Coley to Fisch. Their resumes are nothing alike.

You're right. One has been a component of a successful college offense and is an ace recruiter. The other would have been run out of Minnesota on a rail if people still did that sort of thing. Every one takes a different path.

We'll see how good Fisch looks with Gabbert/Henne/FA/2013 draft pick running the show

From the same people that wanted Dorsey to get benched or injured after the Udub game. Not surprised

yes Coley a successful "component" of a college offense. Fisch a successful component of NFL offenses. Their resumes are not to be compared. Fisch without a doubt the more experienced/successful coach

Of course they aren't, but that's not even the real crux of the issue. The problem is two-fold

1) These same types of things were said about Fisch when he was hired (his resume isn't solid enough/Minnesota sucked)
2) People don't like Coley because he is/was a douchebag on twitter that is employed by FSU

And number 2 is about as far as most folks would go if they were to consider Coley, which is ridiculous.

This is also not to mention the fact that guys like Chad Morris have come from High School and are SHREDDING D1 defenses left and right. What does it say on Chip Kelly's resume?
There are a slew of coaches who coach offense at an extremely high level who have never even sniffed the NFL.

By this guys logic, he wouldn't have hired Dana Holgorsen or Kliff Kingsbury, who are two of the most progressive minds in college football.

It's just an insanely flawed logic to think that only guys from the NFL should coach offense at Miami. You eliminate a ton of good candidates that way and I don't even believe "Killa" really believes in that theory, because I'm sure he would be open to hiring someone from a school NOT located in Tallahassee.

so let's say he's down.

Is he an upgrade over Fisch?

I have to say nay.

Can we do better?

Downgrade as an OC but an upgrade as a recruiter.

Would need a QB coach to go along with Coley.

Considering Fish masterminded zero points against KSU ND FSU and. Two stinking TDs against a bad UNC team with a default coach and couldn't get a first down in the last two possessions against a terrible UVA with an even more default of a coach.....a downgrade at OC means we lose 6 to 7 Games a year now.

woo...is there such a thing as a "throwback reference"?

If they hire Coley, its because he knocked their socks off in an interview. If that's the case, I'm fine with the hire.

There's nothing to suggest Coley is good or bad as an offensive coach, all we know is that he is a good recruiter. If Golden likes his philosophy, I'm fine with the hire.

Its not a hire that I'd get too excited about either. It would still be a risky move.

Wow....I remember a time when a comment like "let's get Norm Chow" was the equivalent of saying today "let's get chip Kelly"

While the FSU meltdown would be great lulz, I'm not thrilled with the prospect, I'm with killa on this one.

Agreed. Pass. This team has the potential to hang 50 every Saturday. We need an experienced play caller.

He was the QB coach on a team that won 7 games. The NFC West was terrible so they made the playoffs and won a game. None of the head coaches in the division at the time besides Carroll still have those jobs. He was the assistant to assistant coaches in Baltimore from 2004-2007. 3 out 4 years they didn't make the playoffs. So I call BS on being a component of successful offenses. He got the job on references, his vision and the interview. Not on-field success.

Only thing I i would be upset about us getting coley is that it would open up a true OC spot on FSU instead of corch jimbo to corch em up. Thing about this whol coley situation is are offense should be real good next year and if he comes and are offense balls out im sure he will get offered more money so we will be starting over again.

By no means am I saying he is a "job is yours if you want it" guy. I think Lubick, Glenn Thomas, and Coley should all get interviews. Best Man wins.

What surprised me most about the conversation is that it sounded like FSU wasn't an option. It was Miami or something else.
