Gentlemen, maybe we're looking at this wrong.

What is happening right before or right after Sony's announcement date?

Sony didn't pull that particular date out of hizazz. Something is particular about that date.

Guys?

Arbor Day?

If he picks UGA over the U we can't blame the coaches. We have had the full court press on him since he was in 8th grade. That means he thinks playing at UGA is a better option than playing at Miami, which in my opinion sucks even more than if the coaches just dropped the ball. I'm really hoping that all of this is a smoke screen and he throws up the U

The **** I can't blame the coaches. He's been wanting to come here since the 8th grade, if he doesn't want to come here, then something got messed up along the way. This whole idea that Golden is perfect in regards to recruiting is ridiculous.

You're right. Golden should hold a gun to the kid's head.:ohlord:

If all things are equal then I see your point but they are not equal. Sony is a kid that grew up a fan of the program, is a local kid and most importantly plays a position of need. It has already been broken down by others on this site; the smart choice for Sony is to pick Miami. If he does not, it will be a failure by the staff no ifs or buts about it.

I mean...I kind of understand what you're saying, but how? What could the coaches have possibly done to ***** this up? I'm not one of those guys that thinks Al is flawless and can do no wrong. Logically, I just don't see what could possibly have happened. A list of things coaches do to ***** up recruitments:

1)Offer late (We were on him since 8th grade, so no)
2) Slow play (again, we might have been the first team to offer him)
3)Recruit other players at his position after saying we wouldn't (I doubt it seeing as Sony himself wants to play with another top back)
4) Told him we would recruit him as a position he doesn't want to play like Rudolph (Sony is a rb all the way and it has never been mentioned we wanted him for something else)
5) Stopped recruiting him after his injury (didn't happen)
6) Inconsistent contact with him (doubtful as he has been to campus numerous times and has been made a top target)

I also doubt Sony has been turned off by academic requirements or there is anything weird going on between his coach (Mike Rumph, former Cane) and the school. So what could it be? The NCAA? Maybe, but Golden wasn't involved and at the very least is telling Sony we aren't getting anything more (at least bowl bans anyway). The only thing it could be is we don't win enough, but if the kid is as legit a fan as he says and as everyone makes him out to be then he knows what happened with Shannon and Al's first 2 years. He sees the talent we have and he knows we are primed to return from the cellar. He sees we had the best freshman running back in the country and it's not out of the question that he, himself, can duplicate or surpass that success. After all of these tests for me, I concluded that if in fact Sony chooses UGA over the U it is because he liked their staff more, wants to play for Georgia in the SEC and feels like he will do better in that system and at that school.

At the end of the day there is only so much a coach can do to convince a player to play for them. At what point do we put any of it on the kid? I would just love to know what ya'll think could have possibly happened between Sony and the coaches to make it the coaches fault given the information we have. I'll hang up and listen

Then they got outworked and beat for a prized recruit plain and simple. You are ultimately judged on results and not landing this kid for said reasons has to be looked upon as a failure. I am a big supporter of Golden but this mentality that it isnt on the staff is ridiculous. Look at it from the UGA side, if they land Sony then they will(as they should be) be praised for the great job that they did in pulling an elite prospect away from Miami(because that is how it will be looked at). Saying that losing this kid is not on the staff is the same as stating that getting Kc committed wasnt a big deal and not a big get for the staff.

Yep. NO EXCUSES. If Sony does wind up at uga that's a HUGE miss. Had three+ years to recruit this kid, and you might let him get away. Unacceptable.

If we miss on Matthew Thomas one year, and Sony Michel the next year, I'm done with Al Golden.

You can't win without the elite talent.

Even though he says he has someone in mind, I don't think he's completely made up his mind yet. Probably weighing between UGA & UM

That's the stupidest **** I've ever heard. Two players don't make a program, and it's not like we missed on linebackers...Alex Figs is showing AA potential, Grace doesn't take **** from anyone and is a good LB that with more size can be great, and our current crop of LBs are young with good potential. Running back we have Yearby committed this year and the staff is high on Gus Edwards. If Golden got all three stars and won a NC you sure as **** wouldn't be complaining. Evaluation is way more important than stars. Winning games is what it's about, recruiting is fun but the football games are what it's about. 5 stars don't guarantee production, ask FSU

Also, with this oline coming you can find running backs that turn into studs, just ask Alabama who has a rb who runs for 1200 yards a year

Ingram has been a bust in the NFL and that oline every year is elite so they can find rbs every year, not that their rbs aren't good already ut with that line they can pick a guy from the bench and he's a lock for a thousand yards because the offensive line sets the pace

Shut up with the "two players don't make a program" crap.

Alex Figeroa is having a good spring, that doesn't make him an All American. Grace isn't even here yet, and if you think Grace is on Matthew Thomas' level you're dumber than dirt.

Yearby is a great back but Sony is special. Sony is the best back in Florida since Duke.

Go **** yourself with this "evaluation" garbage. That's what it is.... garbage. You don't have to be a genius to see that Sony Michel is a special athlete, and the fact is he's been a Cane fan his whole life and grew up in South Florida.

NO EXCUSE for missing on this kid.

LOL @ Trent Richardson being average. Too dumb to even respond to.

Dumbass did i say he was average? No, my point is simple Alabama every year has the best oline and without a great qb and only 1 top wr at a time they are always unstoppable. If you think the running backs did all that then tell me why Mark Ingram is such a bust in the NFL and I will wait for your answer.

You honestly want to call anybody dumb but you think that Thomas is a franchise guy before he graduates from high school? Are you really that slow?
