Someone Who Knows Things

Sports what are we spending all of this NIL money on and why did we allow Duke to get the QB that we could've had for multiple years? Why are ppl scared to check Mario like they have previous coaches?
I think because it means (to some) if you call out Mario you don’t support him and that means you don’t want him to have success and thus want us to suck. I know it’s weird. Couple that with the potential lack of resources if we don’t have Mario’s friends supporting the program and it scares people.

Yes, wins are a QB stat now.

Malik Rosier = Cam Ward, because both QBs won the same amount of games in one season. Thanks for that one.

And I'm not snarky. I'm trying to shake you from being an idiot, because you're not an idiot. You're ******* smart, so please stop.
My friend, I was responding to your post that Wazzu would win three games without Cam. Now that you’ve been proven wrong, you want to back off QB wins?

As this is going nowhere, let me refer back to the original post so nobody is confused where I stand:

1) This offense needs a competent QB. An Emory-level QB will not be good enough.

2) Cam is the man. Maybe the best Canes QB ever. Our next QB will likely not be as good, and our offense will likely not be as good.

3) Our offense was not a one-man show, and we had many surrounding factors that allowed Cam to go from a Day 3 pick on a middling offense to a Day 1 pick on an elite offense. I expect some of those factors, notably OL, to help the next guy maximize his potential.

Not been proven wrong at all, you can keep saying this, it didn't happen.

Our offense was not a one-man show

If that's the case then his friends supporting the program need to give him that Phil Knight unlimited NIL which he left to come home for. The Mario the brought home is useless in this era without it. I dont like to bash the program but the truth is the truth

I agree we had a lot more talent here. So what are we arguing about?

Nobody is saying that any QB can just step in here and do what Cam did. He's the best QB in the country and a first round pick. I'd say 95% of the people on here, myself included, expect our offense to get worse and the next QB to be worse.

But the narrative that we had nothing on offense without Ward is just wrong.
I think alot of people believe we didn't have much on offense in terms of playcalling not players. I think thats why despite having the number one offense you don't see alot of Shannon Dawson hype as far as getting a head coaching job.

Two points that should be obvious, but are subject to debate in here:

1) We aren't going to win anything with Emory handing the ball off. Our defense won't be good enough, and even if it was, we need more from the QB position.

2) Cam, while clearly the best QB in the America, wasn't a one-man show here. His offense at Wazzu was 53rd in scoring offense and 72nd in yards per play. And that's with an innovative OC and two legit 1,000-yard receivers. They actually won more games before he got there. We helped him and he helped us.

We have made big strides on defense this offseason. There are three big items on the agenda: QB, WR and Xavier Lucas. I'd personally add linebacker to that, as well. Lots of work to do before Notre Dame.
We need a true edge rusher also I think.. We have redundant bulky tweener 3 tech type DEs right now, obviously dont know the new DC scheme but we dont have rush end that cause trouble or bend the edge.

We need more pass rush but I’m hoping we get production from our expensive high school recruits.
Pass rush is largely nullified when opposing OCs realize it takes two steps and a head tilt to get separation on our DBs. Overhauling the DB room and better scheming from the new DC is, god willing, going to make QBs hold the ball just a little longer and give our DLine and expensive high school recruits a chance to meet at the QB (best football coach twitter handle ever).

I think the narrative, more accurately is we have nothing that matters without a competent QB. We don’t have Dalvin cook or Derrick Henry. We don’t have Jeremiah smith who you can just tell to go long.
WE have an Oline, and that absolutely matters, so not really sure what yoiu're talking about really loll. How are you going to say the entire reason Cam wanted to come here, the entire reason he was set up to take that major next step past what he was doing at WSU, and that he would have done everything he did here as long as he had our Oline.... then immediately say we have nothing that matters without a QB.. Like are you saying our Oline will be wasted if we don't have a QB? Cause it doesn't sound like that's what you're saying, it seems like youre saying we are worse across the board with no special talent... So With Cam our OLine mattered a lot and it was great, but without Cam our Oline doesn't matter at all? I'd argue that our OLine matters far more without Cam cause there is about no chance the next Qb is as creative and able to create as much time by maneuvering in the pocket at Cam was able to. And without Cam we are going to need to be much more reliant on the run game holding up when the Defenses aren't as threatened by the pass....

If you want to say we are worse at the skill positions than last year, sure I agree so far. That should be obvious when you are losing X, Arroyo, and Martinez. Thats tough to replace all at once for sure. But OLine I doubt we take much if any step back.

I think even a great offensive line matters non with a non factor at QB. Load the box defense always will win. So yes even without cam or a competent QB the line doesn’t matter

Let me make sure I get your argument:

1. Cam was a one-man show at Miami.
2. Cam was a one-man show at Washington State, too, but the offense's stats were a lot worse because he had no help.

Do you understand what "one-man show" means?
I think one thing not being highlighted enough is how Cam himself improved. Players make big jumps. When we signed Cam, the consensus was that we should be getting the best QB in the portal who would probably be the best QB in the conference. What we got was arguably the best player in all of cfb.

I think comparing what he did in 23 with WSU just as some sort of carryover just doesn’t track with most people. Now, we can argue semantics on the one man show comment but reality is that this team is 7 win team if we get an adequate QB. If we still had TVD, we probably are 4-5 win team. The defense was that bad.

Now we can squabble over semantics that it was a one man show, and probably
