Haven't done research but did read the comment "defense has been Toledo's problem" .. and Candle's career path has been on the offensive side of the ball. Seems like another bright young offensive mind that would do gangbusters as an OC, but might need more "maturing" and experience to get another shot at a HC position (as his seat is reportedly getting warm at Toledo).

The whole, "Mario pulled in a current HC to be his OC" does nothing for me. Bring me the best offensive mind out there, regardless of their current position. Is this guy the best, or is he simply the one with the highest current position?

Like others have said, his new AD might be wanting to go a different direction. Why? Because the results have been slipping at Toledo.

I think this is a fair position. I was one of the few people on this board not enamored with the Enos hire when it was announced so I respect that you're not just going along with the prevailing sentiment that this would be a homerun hire. However unlike Enos, I think the stats are on the side of Candle being a good OC. Enos basically had one good season as OC, and that was when he had an OL stacked with future NFL linemen. I also think Candle runs the type of offense that we want to see here, and not an antiquated pro style offense like Enos ran.

You may lose people, but do you take a guy that you could only have 1 year?

Like I said, from Candle's perspective, does it make sense to move your family when you know your going to move again in 2 years or less to be a head coach again?

Nobody is saying its a done deal but well regarded people are on here giving you reasonable explanations on how this MIGHT make sense but you refuse to listen. We get it, your mind is made up and this cant happen. Can we move on now?

Sort of. They also scored two TDs to make it 38-30 late in the game.

If he sticks at Toledo he’ll get out of the rut. His DC was a savage that went like 95-6 in 6 years as Mount Union’s HC and won a couple championships. He’s got a good staff now.

To defend, or throw shade, but,.. realistically,..how long to review a potential OC, who will be under contract for multiple yrs, review their offensive philosophy, and film. Research player involvement, and interaction record, their recruiting evaluation, and track record? Now, imagine just given one chance, to get it right. How many candidates are available, to screen, and do research on?

Knowing what we know now, I wouldn’t be surprised if Manny hired Enos ONLY because he was the QB coach at Bama.

I fell for it too at the beginning (I’m not paid millions to make those decisions though) but it was a very wrong hire and it showed. We had no reliable QB and a very bad OL, a true HC would’ve acknowledged that.

What we have here with Mario is the complete opposite imho from a vetting process standpoint (thank god)

That's about a 35 ppg annual average which is what you need to field a competitive team.

All the weird Miami links with Candle:
Coach Kul is assistant DC and linebackers coach. He is a Toledo alum and seems like the next HC if Candle bolts.
Kevin Beard is WR coach.
Robert Weiner is the OC of two years. Was Plant coach for 16 years and coached Aaron Murray and Robert Marve, among others.
