You literally jut spun, or in non-defeatist speak, gave two very good reasons why we might have not announced yet.

Point being is crack open a beer, trust Mario, and enjoy the ride without sweating it out so hard along the way. We don't know what we don't know.

I know he was pass-game coordinator there and I thought he had a hand in calling the pass plays. He definitely had a hand in implementing the scheme and gameplanning, so he owns some of those numbers.

Nevertheless, if he's only called plays for one year, still a huge step down from Briles/Candle. The results were nothing special. If he's a one-year playcaller, he's got minimal experience and no record of impressive results.

Who has he learned under?

Mario was hired after the PAC12 Championship game and before the bowl game. All of CFB has had their season over for at least 1-2 weeks by now. So unless we are targeting exclusively NFL Guys, what is the holdup? But wait Candle apparently just turned us down this week....

Again, it isn't panick for people to want to have more than one defensive coach hires by NSD AND a MAJOR 2023 recruiting event ...

But you hit the nail on the head regarding our reporters, that is the local reporters. They have zero clue, they have zero sources, and they have zero useful information. So who knows.

Just think it's weird that people are saying he has "bad results" when Appalachian State scored a bunch of points with him as the playcaller. That offense is very hard to defend. According to someone on our old defensive staff, it was the hardest offense to prepare for (App. State and Louisville).

Personally, I want someone with a longer track record of playcalling. But I suspect the perception of Ponce as a lazy hire is because he's Hispanic (Nicaraguan, not Cuban) from Miami.

I don't have any answers, but I'd have to imagine that Mario knows his success rests on this and has plan B through Z in the works.

It seems pretty obvious that the hires aren’t done yet formally Or not.

I’m not so sure he is going to get an NFL OC job in this group of openings. If he does he needs to be very careful about choosing. If he gets dealt a terrible qb and set up for failure, NFL GMs will be much more hesitant to give him a 3rd shot. Coming here and rebuilding his brand with a high octane offense could net him a better NFL gig in 2 years than the one he MAY get this go around.

It’s being perceived as a potentially lazy hire because it would be a lazy hire. If we’re making a real commitment to the football program hiring an OC with one year of playcalling experience at App St shouldn’t even be a possible option.
