Probably already posted but don't want to read all this haha. From 247:

"Stadium’s Brett McMurphy reported that Cristobal offered the job to Briles on Wednesday."

Edit: 247 are morons and put the wrong day. He didn't have an update since yesterday which makes the statement above meaningless.

12 PM Update. Much of the same from them. Arky 247 is reporting that:

- Briles has an offer from Miami
- Briles is likely to stay put, as he's been moving all around the past 5 years and his family really wants him to stay put. The family also allegedly loves Fayettville.
- If our offer is 500k or so more than what Arky will raise him to, then he may leave (this is unlikely imo)
- We should know soon

Only way this is tru is if Mario knew candle was a No yesterday. Doesn’t sound like that is the case though.
 
I’m getting a little anxious but far from worried. Remember it wasn’t too long ago that posters here were convinced our Head Coach/ AD combo was going to be Diaz/Strawley.

If Candle and Briles were both in serious consideration for the position, it tells me all I need to know about the standards Mario has for potential coordinators.

I hope we get him. This could be another chess move by his agent to get more at Arkansas, using McMurphy as his puppet again. I guess we'll know soon enough.

Ok I get not moving his family around but this is such a better opportunity for him. If we were budget I would say no but the SEC WEST now has Saban, Jimbo, Brian Kelly, Lane Kiffin, and Mike Leach. Pittman had a GREAT year but I don’t see him keeping up with theseother programs.

Whereas here he has to put points on UNC, VT, UVA, Duke, Pitt, and FSU and he is in a NY6 bowl every year.

Some of their fans are worrisome bc they haven’t reached an agreement on a new deal yet. We’ll definitely know about this sooner rather than later

Yep. That's why I haven't really said much about how this coordinationator thing is going. Is it concerning that we haven't named an OC or DC yet? Absolutely. If we are honest about it it is concerning and you would like it to have the staff wrapped up. BUT it ultimatly doesn't matter when we get there if the results are good.
When he hires the OC and the DC and we see the names we can judge then. JMO

I think the moving part is pretty big here.

I agree that he'd have a much stronger 3-5 years here then he'd have at Arky the next 3-5 years. But his mind be more short-term: Arky actually had a pretty good offense in 2021, they're returning a lot of players (including the QB), and they've brought in some instant-impact transfers (e.g. Haselwood). He might be trying to parlay another successful year into a HC gig, so in his mind, he might not be there longer than 1 or 2 more years.
 
So what exactly is the right amount of time building a staff should take? Cause f*ck knows it would have been a problem if Mario had slapped something together in a few weeks, and now it's a problem that it's taking too long. So how many days ago did we pass the sweet spot?

Yeah on 247 they said Mario offered Briles TODAY and not yesterday. However, they also said McMurphy reported this and he reported yesterday that Briles was offered the job yesterday. So unless McMurphy corrected his own reporting, 247 did a misprint and your assumption is correct.

That or Candle turned down Mario early yesterday and he then offered Briles yesterday. Something feels off though.
