Why is it bad? He identified his top choice, offered him, it sounds like Candle was close to saying yes last night, but decided to stay. All of Cristobal’s other options appear to still be on the table. Should he only offer candidates that are guaranteed to say yes?

I think people are annoyed because all we've seen with the coordinators is weeks of tight secrecy, and when there's finally a crack it's nothing but an publicly discussed offer + rejection - the very kind of thing secrecy efforts are designed to avoid.

If that actually happened then that likely means the situation is more chaotic than we would hope. That means Mario took a month to get to his candidates, spent loads of time trying to get everything right, and was turned down by the first person he asked. That's not a good look. The assumption with the fan base is the time and effort is worth it because it will pay off in the end but if it's just getting you turned down then you're likely wasting your time.
