Haha I appreciate the thought.

My opinion on Candle is mixed. Let me say I think he would be a good OC hire at Miami and I would be happy with him, but here are my reservations:

1. Something will have to be arraigned regarding who handles the clock. Toledo has blown some games in the WILDEST of fashions due to clock mismanagement since he took over from Matt Campbell. See 2020 vs WMU as an example. This concerns me as Mario is also known for mismanaging the clock at times. So I don't know if some sort of quality control analysis would be able to take on the responsibility or what. But Mario + Candle handling the clock is no bueno.

2. I generally like his play calling and Toledo has had really good offenses under him as a head coach.

3. He was even better as an OC for Campbell when he was at Toledo, which is encouraging.

4. His teams have always recruited well in Florida, which I like.

Like I said, I would absolutely take him. I just would like something concrete done about clock management.
I’m pretty sure the HC is making clock decisions. Way more goes into it than just offense/play calling.

I know much has been said about Mario’s (in)ability to manage the clock, but we likely live and die with his clock management.

I don’t think the OC hire has anything to do with that.

For what Mario and Candle (if hired) are paid, crazy to think they couldn't manage the clock. If you can't handle that - with all the multitudes of assistants to delegate to - you have no business being a HC or OC.

Lately, there have been specific roles on staff that handle clock management. They provide the analytics and options, then the head coach decides. There job is prepare mostly for half/game ending scenarios along with 4th down calls and /or going for 2..

It's a fail if, Coach doesn't have someone on staff like this...

Yes, and every team should have an analytics team like this.

My point was, the HC is making the call, not the OC. So whatever clock management issues Candle had at Toledo as HC are inapplicable as it relates to his potential role as Miami’s OC.

Come on, that’s an easy one. (And an all-timer)

Whoops, that will get you into trouble at the University of Florida...

Maybe this one is better:

As we saw with Manure's horrible mismanagement of the clock this year in Trailerhassee
