Understand. Still, no excuse when you could have an assistant standing right next to you and/or in your ear. McC may well get fired for it.
Ohhh, I agree. It's just crazy how pervasive it is and I'm a Tomlin guy. I'd probably agree that McCarthy get canned but I like to blame Jerry Jones for their failures. I really hope Mario left some of those issues back in Oregon or we're up by so many points in the 4th quarter that it's irrelevant.

I'm not looking for an epic pull because the guy is a HC. That feels too much like Manny pulling an assistant from Alabama's staff. You know, "Where's Dan?" and all.

This guy might be a great hire, but I refuse to get excited just because he's a HC with what appears to be a downward trajectory. All I want to know is will his O work at Miami? The whole, "Mario pulled in a current HC to be his OC" does nothing for me. Bring me the best offensive mind out there, regardless of their current position. Is this guy the best, or is he simply the one with the highest current position?

Like others have said, his new AD might be wanting to go a different direction. Why? Because the results have been slipping at Toledo.

I'm not concerned about his HC trajectory because he has a good track record as an OC and the system he runs fits what we should be doing (space and pace while still being balanced). That's unlike Enos who was the definition of a square peg, round hole situation. He fooled Manny and he fooled the fan base until the games starting being played, although the spring game should have been a red flag but that's for another day.

Here are Candle's stats from his OC days at Toledo:

2015:
75 plays per game
253 yards passing
208 yards rushing
461 total yards
32.3 PPG (43rd)

2014:
74.8 plays per game
234 yards passing
256 yards rushing
490 total yards
36.6 PPG (20th)

2013:
70.3 plays per game
206 yards passing
240 yards rushing
447 total yards
33 PPG (39th)

2012:
74 plays per game
252 yards passing
193 rushing
445 total yards
31.5 PPG (46th)

Here is Miami's stats from last year for context:

2021:
72.9 plays per game
321 yards passing
128 yards rushing
449 total yards
34.1 PPG (23rd)

Stats only tell a portion of the story and I'll let guys like LCE or Stevo break it down further but he seems like a guy that checks all of the boxes Mario wants.
