So, he needs a couple more years. You all are just looking at this irrationally as Miami fans.

I like him and I think he'd be great for the program. I just don't think it makes sense for his career. Plus, you know he'll be gone in 2 years and your back in the same boat looking for a new OC

No matter who you hire for OC, if he's as successful as you hope he'd be, then they're gone in 2 years for a HC gig. That's the game when you hire elite OC/DC. If they leave to be a HC, it means they had success at Miami

So if you had the opportunity to work for a far superior company with national prestige, got a pretty sizable pay increase, got to live in a better city...but the only drawback was you'd be working under someone else for a few years max (maybe one year, and just one step below in title), you wouldn't consider it?

Either you're not looking at the big picture, or your ego is too big to think rationally.
Great way to put it..I would for sure take that

It’s a mutual thing. Same agency. He’s got to sit on leaving a HC position for an OC position. That’s a drastic career change.

A lot of background stuff to handle too. He’s got a staff in place that they may have to completely let go if the new HC doesn’t retain them or prepare for that possibility.

Now that it’s out in public - it has to speed up the process because his team comes back right around now, dead period opened up, etc. you’re gonna leave a lot of guys hanging from players to staff. A lot to filter
These nuances are typically not considered here. There’s always more to the story.

Where are you seeing he is lined up for a P5 job soon?..he has already reached out to be a head coach at a few schools and there’s no interest there..he’s also on the hot seat..he’s not getting a P5 head coach job right after being fired as a G5 head coach
Where is it reported that he's been fired? I don't see that anywhere. He's the head football coach at Toledo.

Yup. You @JayCane20 and also @LeedsCane who hinted at Candle last Friday without saying the name. You guys did a great job holding that in and not trying to look like a hero to appease the masses if it wasn’t appropriate yet to share. Great job. Appreciate you all sharing info with the board when you can.
How dare @Cribby not say the name to appease our resident preacher.

My impression from that article was that he disappointed this season and a new AD is headed over there. He might have been reading the writing on the wall. If he thinks he may get let go then worrying about the fate of his staff is academic. If true he has been reaching out to P5 programs looking for HCs it sounds like he's ready to move on.
Definitely on the right thinking path. It’s getting stale being there since 2009 in various capacities.

His first 2 years as HC were his best years - he’s proved he’s not on the same level as a HC as Matt Campbell but he’s a more modern/innovative offensive mind than he is.

I do think he hit an absolute grand slam hiring Vince Kehres as his DC. If he sticks around I think their trajectory is trending up. If he leaves, Kehres may be their next HC at Toledo.

Face it .. regardless of WHO Mario hires for OC .. if UM is successful and the offense performs .. the OC will be gone in 2-3 years .. that is the way college coordinators become head coaches in the NCAA or coordinators in the NFL. A head coach is always recruiting .. players and coaching staff.

Not sure why he’s following them unless...
In one of the flo chats they said tvd was already watching film of the new oc.
That could still mean it’s someone else. But this was said weeks ago.

A bunch of irrational fanatics. It doesn't make sense for him. He'd only be here for 2 years at best. Then, we're breaking in a new OC and a new QB.

Think about that.
how often do you see a good OC stick around more than 2 years at any school? Good programs should expect their OCs and DCs to get new jobs every couple of years and their success makes you a desirable stop for other top OCs and DCs.

I’ve been doing a bit of a deep dive into the offensive numbers at Toledo and there’s little not to like. They’re consistent running the ball pretty much every year but when they have really good quarterback play, their offense jumps from “really good” to “video game” type of numbers. Candle’s absolute worst season was 2019 when they only put up 435 yards and 27 points per game. That’s better than the average Miami offense over the same time period. My knock would be that he hasn’t been able to consistently recruit good quarterbacks there. They’ve had some mediocre passers mixed in with some ridiculously good ones. Not sure that would be as much of an issue at Miami especially in the short term.
Would make some sense if Coley does end up on the staff then in some capacity

Or maybe I’m just reaching there it’s hard to judge a recruiting job at a place like Toledo I suppose

Welcome to the new miami! We wont be keeping top coordinators on staff longer than 1-3years. If they kill it in miami, theyll get hc ops. We wont get those lifers at coordinators.
It doesn't change the fact that it makes little to no sense for a head coach who has a job to take a demotion regardless of the amount of money. He just needs to win at his current school and he'll have a P5 job just like Matt Campbell did.

You may lose people, but do you take a guy that you could only have 1 year?

Like I said, from Candle's perspective, does it make sense to move your family when you know your going to move again in 2 years or less to be a head coach again?

This. Good coordinators get promoted. If you have a coordinator who’s not getting HC offers after a couple of years, it’s because he sucks. Every offensive coordinator we had between Chud and Lashlee took a step back after Miami. It’s no coincidence that the guys who had success moved on to higher level positions.

Me and Jay bounce stuff off each other, I trust him with info.

Candle isn’t the only g5 Hc that’s shown some interest.
Oh really....

What's your/everyone's take on those who claim to know who the coordinator(s) are?

He has been passed over several times as a HC at bigger jobs.

While Rhett Lashlee got a HC job at SMU whilst being the OC for a 7-5 Miami team. Plus, most of Marios coordinators have been signed to HC jobs.

Its perfectly rational to do just that, on absolutely any level.
