That's not his end game. I don't care if fans hate on me. It makes no sense for him to come. It doesn't benefit his career. He's already a head coach with a job and is lined up for a P5 job soon.

I'm speaking the truth.

I was skeptical too until I thought about it. He can make more money at UM and put himself in a better position later. Chess move for sure.

This makes no sense to me. I just cannot see a DI head coach leaving to take an OC job. I know enos did it but he was on his way out.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see where this makes any sense.

If we're this late in the game and we're trying to pull a college head coach, then we have issues. This really concerns me thet we're trying to lure a head coach who has a job.

This doesn't make any sense for Candle regardless of a pay raise to be OC. He's the man in charge of his own program. He'll have a P5 job in the same amount of time as taking the Miami OC job if not sooner. I don't think he'd be here for more than 2 years at best. He'd be uprooting his family just to be in Miami for 2 years.

I'm sorry, but it doesn't benefit Candle. I would love to have him, but I would be more than shocked if he accepted the position.
It’s been posted a few times in this thread that A) Toledo fans aren’t satisfied with his record and he’s on the hot seat and B) He’s put out his resume for multiple P5 coaching jobs recently but didn’t get any bites. If he remains head coach and goes 7-6 next year, he’ll likely get fired regardless of how well his offense plays. He’s got a chance to come to Miami, get a raise and improve his likelihood of getting a P5 coaching offer in a couple of years.

Except word is he has reached out about several P5 vacancies and no one gave him the time of day. If that is the case, he’s peaked at Toledo and his best chance to move up is to show he can do it at a P5 level as OC. Also new AD coming there and his seat is apparently warm as head coach. Leave while you control the narrative.
So, he needs a couple more years. You all are just looking at this irrationally as Miami fans.

I like him and I think he'd be great for the program. I just don't think it makes sense for his career. Plus, you know he'll be gone in 2 years and your back in the same boat looking for a new OC

We getting closer to the Candle?

I will try and link the article if I can find it again but I mentioned it was about a month ago there seemed to be some friction between Candle and Toledo seemingly from contract (I’m guessing a little bit here)

So in that sense I think it’s give some more insight

If he goes to Miami and succeeds as an OC he will get a HC gig somewhere
Then it eould make sense if he's not happy and wanting to leave.

It’s a mutual thing. Same agency. He’s got to sit on leaving a HC position for an OC position. That’s a drastic career change.

A lot of background stuff to handle too. He’s got a staff in place that they may have to completely let go if the new HC doesn’t retain them or prepare for that possibility.

Now that it’s out in public - it has to speed up the process because his team comes back right around now, dead period opened up, etc. you’re gonna leave a lot of guys hanging from players to staff. A lot to filter

My impression from that article was that he disappointed this season and a new AD is headed over there. He might have been reading the writing on the wall. If he thinks he may get let go then worrying about the fate of his staff is academic. If true he has been reaching out to P5 programs looking for HCs it sounds like he's ready to move on.

Think about it. Would you leave your current job for a 50% increase, but a demotion to go to California for 2 years when you know your going to get 3-4 times your salary in 2 years?

Why make that move and then have to move again? What about the wife and kids?

I’ve been doing a bit of a deep dive into the offensive numbers at Toledo and there’s little not to like. They’re consistent running the ball pretty much every year but when they have really good quarterback play, their offense jumps from “really good” to “video game” type of numbers. Candle’s absolute worst season was 2019 when they only put up 435 yards and 27 points per game. That’s better than the average Miami offense over the same time period. My knock would be that he hasn’t been able to consistently recruit good quarterbacks there. They’ve had some mediocre passers mixed in with some ridiculously good ones. Not sure that would be as much of an issue at Miami especially in the short term.

Where are you seeing he is lined up for a P5 job soon?..he has already reached out to be a head coach at a few schools and there’s no interest there..he’s also on the hot seat..he’s not getting a P5 head coach job right after being fired as a G5 head coach

There is no guarantee you're getting that 3-4 times salary when your current boss isn't thrilled with your most recent performance. You might not be around for two more years when the new job is ready for you. You move to get off the train tracks because you hear the train coming.

Welcome to the new miami! We wont be keeping top coordinators on staff longer than 1-3years. If they kill it in miami, theyll get hc ops. We wont get those lifers at coordinators.

So if you had the opportunity to work for a far superior company with national prestige, got a pretty sizable pay increase, got to live in a better city...but the only drawback was you'd be working under someone else for a few years max (maybe one year, and just one step below in title), you wouldn't consider it?

Either you're not looking at the big picture, or your ego is too big to think rationally.

Who would you all prefer to hire between the below matchups?

Spencer Whipple or Warren Ruggiero
Sean Lewis or Kendal Briles
Ken Dorsey or Joe Brady
Good presentation .. Ruggiero, Briles, Brady, all day long. Young, creative, smart, and a more definitive experience base to judge performance potential on. Having said that, Dorsey is very intriguing with the QB and offense performances he has been involved with. Always knows for high football IQ .. even Coach Bowdin praised his intellect and play calling in games.
