I'm gonna make this simple for you because you're having a hard time.

I will take the elite QB coach that is maybe average at calling plays over the WR (???) coach who called only third down and red zone plays for one year in college and then lead a bad Carolina offense for not even two years in the NFL.

This guys flying up the condescending prick ranks at a meteoric rate.

if you’d take the elite qb coach then why aren’t you mentioning mike kafka?

Update on DC from Gaby:

“ There is still little clarity on who Mario Cristobal will tap to run Miami's defense nearly four weeks since the Hurricanes hired the head coach.

Some of the names floated around have been Georgia co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann and Auburn defensive coordinator Derek Mason.

Sources told InsideTheU that a couple of other names to monitor as potential defensive play-callers include Seattle Seahawks associate head coach and defensive line coach Clint Hurtt and Houston defensive coordinator Doug Belk.

Hurtt is a Miami alum with direct ties to Cristobal. While playing at UM, Cristobal was a graduate assistant. Hurtt was then a graduate assistant at Miami during Mario Cristobal's first year at Miami in 2004 when he was coaching tight ends. In 2006, Hurtt was named Miami's defensive line coach, which was Cristobal's last year as Miami's offensive line coach before taking the head coaching job at FIU.

Hurtt also had a stint at Louisville between 2010-13 where he served as a defensive line coach, associate head coach, and recruiting coordinator. In his final year with the Cardinals, the team led the nation in sacks, total defense, rushing defense, third down defense, and second in scoring defense.

Hurtt then went on to spend three years with the Chicago Bears where he coached the defensive line and then outside linebackers before making the move over to Seattle, where he has been since March 2017.

With the Seahawks, Hurtt has coached up talent such as Jarran Reed, who had a career-high 10.5 sacks in 2018, All-Pro defensive end Frank Clark, Michael Bennett, and Jadeveon Clowney.

A defensive line coach being hired as a defensive coordinator isn't such a rarity. Oregon recently hired Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi. Rod Marinellis is another defensive line coach who has been a defensive coordinator. Buddy Ryan, Rex Ryan, Wade Phillips, Dan Quinn, Patrick Graham, and Joe Cullen are more examples of defensive line coaches making the jump.

Belk is another intriguing option and someone else off the Nick Saban coaching tree. From 2014-16, Belk was a graduate assistant coaching cornerbacks under Saban, who personally handles the position for the Crimson Tide.

After spending a couple of years at West Virginia, Belk was poached by Houston to become the associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator and safties coach. In 2021, he was named the full-time defensive coordinator and led a Cougars unit that led the nation in third down defense, allowing conversions juts 25.7 percent of the time.

Houston's defense was also top ten nationally in total defense, sacks, turnovers gained, first down defense and rushing defense. Belk's unit was also top 15 in redzone defense and top 20 in passing yards allowed and scoring defense.

Cristobal and Belk worked together in Tuscaloosa for three years.”

He also went on to add that the source says that Schumann is unlikely.
People pay money for this.

Hey remember these posts under your other screen name?

Food chance they come back like Benny Blanco from the Bronx.

Still don’t think it’s Briles? I know the Arkansas board was dismissing us as a step down. As I asked you previously… were you ( @TheU21 )one of the ones dismissing us???
With all the poRsts on these boards, call outs like this should happen WAY more often.

I just can't see us bringing Hurtt in after him being named in the shapiro **** and catching a show-cause. Schumann, Mason, or Belk would all be great hires that don't come with that baggage (or at least that I know of).

Hiring Hurtt makes absolutely ZERO sense (assuming Salea'va is coming) on a few fronts and I'm not sure why his name keeps getting tossed out. First, he would be a first time defensive play-caller and I highly doubt Mario wants to go that route - even Schumann has been in a Co-DC capacity.

Second, Salea'va coaching DL makes Hurtt redundant. Now, if Salea'va isn't coming anymore and he is looking at Hurtt as a co-DC/DL to partner with a primary playcaller, then it makes more sense, but I'm not sure why he'd leave an NFL job for that type of arrangement.
Anyone with an ounce of logic and common sense would have went through this thought process before putting out an article touting Hurtt as a possible DC candidate. Anyone paying for that "insight" should demand their money back.

I've always said that i'd make a fantastic 247 'journalist'!!!

Not what this is about. He was banned for being an Arkansas troll and kept trying to come back on. With the Briles stuff, we thought it would be better here to have him join us.

Pushing aside the unprovable. The whole best developer of QBs stuff. Dorsey isn’t a long term option. Much like Brady he could very well spend a year on staff and leave if the NFL came calling. So yes for a guy who is gonna spend at maximum two years at Miami as an OC he better hit the ground running calling plays and scoring points. That is most important. We’re not gonna be talking about a long line of Miami QBs developed by Dorsey.
You really think Dorsey would do that to UM? It’s not like he is some journeyman coach - he has been at Car/Buf for how long now?

I’d have to think he and Mario would have a gentleman’s agreement as to ~~ how long he will stay. And if a job he can’t turn down comes up, then go take it. Just don’t leave to be the Jags OC or something.

You didn't read my whole post. Dorsey would be a score.

And really? Bust? There can't possibly be a human being walking the earth right now that could do the job well? Or is everyone else eliminated because they haven't been discussed on this board? Could be some wild cards out there.
BTW, I did read your whole post, and appreciated it. I just responded to a small portion of it with my extremely simplified and basic world view on the situation, which is not one of the more concerning developments in the world these days to me. In Cristobal and Rad I trust.

Just don't want Chud as OC (would love to have him as an analyst), and basically want a young, dynamic, proven P5 level OC who runs an up-tempo, modern offense with an emphasis on the passing game, but who also knows how to run the ball and pick up the dirty yards without being predictable.

Just my two cents on all of this.

I would love to have Coley on staff as a position coach. He’s worked with elite programs/coaches for a long time. He’s a monster recruiter and has a lot of value as a position coach besides being OC. I don’t understand why people keeping bringing up OC with Coley, he’s obviously not going to be calling plays so expressing some fake outrage that he might come in as the play caller is just strange.

I also want to keep Field in an on field position. IMO he’s proven to be a very good recruiter that will become elite on the level of Coley and T-Rob with the new staffing and resources Miami will have, along with having an ace recruiter as a head coach. Having both on staff is an elite haul. If that means putting Coley at TE and Field on ST and letting the analysts run the ST than fine. Field has a ton of value, a diverse resume and IMO will be scooped up quickly by another program if we move him back to an off field role. He’s proven himself and should remain on field.

A staff with Mario, Mirabal, McClendon, T-Rob, Coley and Field is as monstrous as it gets. That’s a staff that’s big game hunting and will compete with the SEC not only in Florida but in the state of Georgia and SEC country for recruiting. Their ability to recruit the local area will be far and away the best Miami has had since Butch.

Lastly, I think Briles and Dorsey are both very good options for OC/QB. You don’t have to pick sides to hopefully be right one day. Both are on paper good hires. Hopefully we land one of them. I don’t really want Hurtt but initially I wasn’t a fan of hiring Dorsey either and I’m leaving my mind open enough to maybe coming around to it.

Still don't think it's Briles and no, I was not the one to bash you guys.
And how the heck did you guys find out about me being an Arkansas fan?
