Some names to watch before it’s deleted

I appreciate the counterpoint.

One problem with the argument that Herbert was restricted (frankly, I’m happy some are finally admitting that much) because of lack of ‘horses’ is that there were games where Herbert *was* unleashed - out of necessity. More plainly, the return to a run-first approach in most other games shows the restrictions were part of a broader philosophy. Doesn’t that line up with the run-first approach we’ve otherwise seen?

I support Mario AND running the ball. Just find the mass rationalizations odd. What happened was clear. Why argue it as if Mario and his OC have to be perfect? If you watched Herbert play most games, he was restricted in multiple ways - especially throwing downfield. Bringing up Tua or Burrow isn't directly relevant to my point. I'm not basing the claim that Herbert was restricted upon a comparison - more or less throws, yards, whatever - to those two.

Again, it's not that big of a deal. He said TVD is his best player. And, he'll center the offense around his best players. That's what we all want to see.
Yeah the hope is he’s evolved from that conservative mindset.

All he needs to look at is his former boss Saban. He was all run first and play action before he realized he had to change.

This is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT on the Dolphins and that idiotic fan-based "Tank for Tua" campaign.
Don’t blame the fans. We are not paid millions of dollars to evaluate.

Unfortunately I do think that played a part including the Tannehill/Herbert comparison.

Take Tua off Bama and he’s a second round pick. His super power is accuracy and it doesn’t significantly outweigh his weaknesses (arm strength, stature, injury prone) to justify a top five pick.

They’ll never admit it but he was picked to sell season tickets.

This is why you can’t listen to fans…we would have booed the Herbert pick but after 6 games of watching them both we would’ve come around.

Outside of the first four words, I completely agree.

And the only reason I "blame the fans" is not because of scouting/evals, but because the fans create this repetitive mindset that leads to your point about "selling season tickets". Ownership THINKS the fans want Tua because that's all they yap about, meanwhile Tua is only being mentioned because of name recognition. Self-fulfilling (doom) prophecy.

Nah yall are wrong. Probably the only time I actually have an inside scoop lol but One of my good friend's dad is a high executive for the Chargers. Tua was their guy too. They were good with drafting either of them but they had Tua over Herbert on their board.

Before Mario was hired, the big knock on him was that he didn't bring an offense or defense so he needed to hire good coordinators. Now we are debating "his" offense being too run heavy/conservative

Mario will hire a good coordinator and let them do their thing.
what I don't get, most oc pick their guy to run their offense rb coach ol coach etc. if the rumors are true miami has mirabal,Mcledon maybe maestro. seem a lil different. MC is an ex lineman most tend stick run control offense!!

That doesn't make the Chargers' eval correct. It just means they got lucky.

The Dolphins were in the power position. Should have taken Herbert, no matter what other teams were dumb enough to draft Tua too highly.
