The offense took major leaps last year in several statistical categories, but Shannon Dawson is nowhere near satisfied. He spoke with reporters about what it will take to get the group to the next level.

On the offense’s consistency: Not anywhere it needs to be. We'll make a few plays and we'll go backwards. It's not anywhere close where it needs to be. Our communication from play to play, the urgency that we need. We need to obviously be way more consistent than what we're doing...

Dawson understands what he has in front of him, and also what a great year can do for his reputation as an OC. Last year when he came in so many people said he wasn't calling the plays at Houston and he wasn't that good. I think he sees the talent he has, and will not settle for pretty good. He wants greatness because we can legitimately achieve it. Too much production and speed all around on offense.

this man is the biggest threat to our season. if he call many more games the way he called 2 of the 13 games last year, show more variety in the run game, demonstrate the ability to adjust during the game and not completely ignore a talented tight end position group we might be okay. until he proves otherwise there will should be plenty of reason for skepticism

Would not be one bit surprised to see the O struggle out of the gate vs the Gates.

If Cam and the receivers do not have their **** together we will see a lot of Martinez and many on this board will start crying about the play calling.

Strength of this team will be the D and they will have to win the day in Gainsville. It may take the O a few games to get going.

Eh, I’m not giving him a 100% pass but it’s tough to call plays when your starting quarterback is hurt/forgot how to throw and your backup can’t complete a forward pass. He could have done more to help when the proverbial **** hit the fan though. Defiantly sticking to 11 personnel when the tight end was just taking up space got me mad. As did using max protection sets against 3 man rushes. Although he kind of dumped all that max protection the last few games.

That is how you sound when it is "put up or shut up time".

Dawson knows the pressure is on his back, ............and if he is not told outright it is implied.

Now you got a Ferrari.............so drive the car like you know what you got........just don't crash it !!!

Seems like there's issues with lining up and executing the plays correctly and them getting either penalties or having too many bad plays because something isn't right.

But the issue isn't up front. And Dawson also seems like he wants to call out them more, which is good.

All I read on this board for six months was the concern around the DL and secondary, while also reading about depth at WR, RB, TE, OL and (gasp) QB, yet the D is now the strength of the team? Ok.

Here is Dawson's after practice press conference ---- >

I've never seen him so ****ed (which I'm happy to see, btw).

Here is Guidry's after practice press conference ------- >

at the 2:48 mark he's asked how the offense stacked against the defense . . . "Today was one of our better days" and specifically referenced the red zone work. I'm speculating that's why Dawson was wearing a big frown. It great to hear those boys on defense play well.
