second half dominance defensively

Yeah, that's misleading IMO, we let them go right down the field on the last drive, and had their coach not corched his time management, it would have gotten even dicier.
I'll say this much Drones did a nice Cam impression on getting away, several times I thought we had him...

VT Drives 1st Half
--plays 31 yards - TD - we gave them a short field
--2 plays for 11 yards - Int
--12 plays 29 yards - Punt
--3plays for 64 and 5 plays 69 yards - TD's - this was the one piece of the game where they went down the field in chunks and we looked lost. But it came on the heels of the hold and then the interception.
--9 plays for 34 yards - FG - had them in 3rd and 9 and Drones had a 20 yard gain

2nd Half
--8 plays 41 yds - FG - 3rd and 5 and we missed Drones who extended the play and got 21
--4 plays 6 yards
--10 plays 45 yards - TD - the absurd PI Acting jobs
--3 plays 3 yards
--9 plays 45 yards - Failed Hail Mary

Again we are flawed in the areas already discussed. But the second half we were a PI and a Prevent defense drive away from absolutely shutting them down. Despite flaws, injuries, and missed tackles. Tuten is a tough SOB...he got about 80-90 yards on 4 carries and then about 50 on the other 15 or so carries.

We will probably need a similar effort against Lville but as long as we dont turn the ball over the defense is good enough that if you dont give the opponents offense to many short fields they will get stops.

They punted once in the second half: points, fake FG, TD, punt, overturned TD.

VT was not a great defensive game.
Our success this year is gonna be trading field goals for touchdowns

The defense just has to toughen up when it needs to, get some turnovers, and let the offense keep doing its thing

It can get better though if/when Bain and Brown come back but we don’t have a dominant defense personnel wise. But we all knew this. And not many teams do.

Bain is a proven stud. Brown is the most CIS overrated DB we have had since the 4 months of Cormani McClain...

The hope for me is Brown allows DPJ to go back to doing his thing. So it’s not a matter of him making an impact it’s letting people be in spots we practiced all offseason

Not going to attribute any of that to being handcuffed by 3 turnovers, turning it over at the 30 yard line, an interception that got VT into the RZ, etc? Held Tuten to 60 yards in the 2nd half without Bain, Barrow, or Harris.

Held VT to 10 points in the 2nd half and held them to a 3 and out to get the ball back for the game winning drive.
And they needed a bs pi call to keep the drive alive for one of their scores

You're not being honest with yourself if you watch our defense and think it's good, give up way too many big plays and WRs seem to be routinely open against our secondary, not to mention the abysmal tackling, particularly by the secondary.

Threads like these are where the board consistently goes south...

We played a bad game, but still won.... hope the team adjusts and moves forward. No need to rationalize what we saw when the CIS opinion of every team we've played is: They cheeks!

5-0... no need for fake sunshine

Let's ******* go!

They don't lie, but they can mislead. VT scored more than their season average so far in last game. Only other 2 times they scored more than 30 is against Marshall and ODU.

What i give Guidry his flowers for is his mastery in masking our deficiencies. But VT test drove the **** out of it before the adjustment.
Concerns at DT and CB dominated the boards all offseason

Whelp. That’s what we saw.

Guidry is having to do with the secondary what he had to do with the DL last year. I don’t think the personnel is that bad, but now we have guys in the wrong spots because we have no other choice

Thankfully we picked up Hill in the portal but we needed at least one more impact player there. The portal was a huge success for us but that one still stings
Great point. Injuries coming into this game and during the game didn’t help either. Having Bain back this weekend is massive.

Lies, **** lies and statistics. Our D needs to get better, they were not good this past Friday. They were a one horrible referee decision, if the TD call would have stood, from blowing that game for us. They just never seem to step up and make a stop when we truly need it, I'm just not convinced that Guidry is the right guy.

I think it’s good but not great. We will have more games like this especially against Louisville. We will just have to put 40+ points a game.

Yeah I think the USF and VT games were more similar than we like to admit. But in the VT game our turnovers kept VT running their offense and they were beating us up front. First half was eerily similar but USF got field goals and we didn’t shoot ourselves in the foot, but we are going to be riding a razors edge on defense all year

I'm writing that game off. That was the worst tackling game Miami has had in ages. It was bad early and often so its not like they just got tired and wore down. That is focus and effort and this team has been pretty good in that area until now.

I'll worry if they look bad against Cal.

Previous games i saw Chase Smith with the mark on his helmet when he came in for Francisco. Now I wonder if Smith is hurt because I don't recall seeing him at all in the VaTech game.
That’s probably why Francisco plays so much. Lack of players they trust to take over the mic

A healthy 100% Bain returning will make a difference.

Give me one sack from Bain and another TFL during the VT game and you likely take away a score and you have a more comfortable win instead of a nailbiter

Side note…

“They’re are 3 types of lies. Lies, **** lies and statistics.” - attributed to several people Twain, Disraeli to name 2. Useless knowledge for the day.

Go Canes!
