Saw This On Grassy

I'm not a Golden lover, but at least he brought in Jedd Fisch who was able to turn Jacory Harris into a good QB, and developed SteMo to were he became a competent QB when he was supposed to be Whipple's project.

Randy Shannon was never even top 5 in total defense in ACC against ACC opponents according to CFBstats.com.

Better than Goldens? Absolutely but not something to praise him for when he was apparently one of the best defensive minds in CFB

Duke was horrible during Shannon's tenure. Everyone uses this as a point to crap on Golden but Duke proved time and again they were no doormat this year playing FSU tough and almost beating A&M. We should have won this game (up 10-0) and it sucks but 2013 Duke is so much better than 07-10 Duke

Shannon's recruiting declined horribly over his tenure while Golden is at least staying consistent in that he is doing "pretty good"

Shannon hitched his wagon to the 08 class and it was working until Whipple ruined Jacory and Shannon stopped recruiting.

The only similarities between the two tenures is that Golden and Shannon are both at a turning point in their 4th year where they need to take the next step and win the coastal and 11 games to make the fan base have a small ounce of hope that they could be the right person for the job

Both showed some progress in getting to 9 wins in year 3 but year 4 determined / will determine their fate

Golden may get a 5th year due to NCAA b/s but this year will determine if this guy has a shot at being successful here

IMO Golden > Shannon. Think Shannon was one of the most ill prepared coaches in football history, there is a reason he is a position coach now. Golden's defense crushed his ability to succeed here (his 3 day flirt with PSU didn't help either).

That said I guess we will see what type of product Golden puts out in 2014. It might not be far off when comparing these 2.

Compared to Golden? If you mean ill prepared re: dealin w/media,bull****tin or hair stylin im with ya. Havent seen anything in between the white lines that Golden does better yet.

Lets try to look at this objectively. (I know this is hard for some of you)

Shannon----- 2007= 5-7 2008= 7-6 2009= 9-4 2010= 7-6 Total= 28-23
Golden-----2011= 6-6 2012=7-5 2013=9-4 Total= 22-15

Lets just look at the teams. 2013 and 2009 both 9-4. 2013 teams played 83-70. 2009 teams played 92-63.

2009 NFL Players(played in 10 games or more)-24 total NFL players
Defense-12 NFL players
DL-Allen Bailey, Micanor Regis, Olivier Vernon
LB-Darryl Sharpton, Colin McCarthy, Sean Spence, Arthur Brown
DB-DeMarcus Van Dyke, Brandon Harris, Sam Shields, Randy Phillips, Ray Ray Armstrong
Offense-12 NFL players
RB-Graig Cooper, Damien Berry, Javarris James
WR-Hank, TB, Laron Byrd, Tommy Streeter
TE-Jimmy Graham, Dedrick Epps
OL-Figs, Orlando Franklin, Brandon Washington

2013 NFL Players (played in 10 games or more)
Defense
DL-Chick, Porter, Pierre ?
LB-Perryman
DB-Gunter ?, Howard ?, Crawford ?, Bush ?
Offense
QB Morris
RB-Duke, Edwards ?
WR-Hurns, Coley, Dorsett ?, Waters ?
TE-Walford, Sandland ?, Cleveland ?
OL-Henderson, Linder, Flowers ? Bunche ?

Duke, Coley, Hankerson, Porter, Henderson and Linder are the only players that might start on 2009 from this years team.

Oh and Duke won 13 games from 2007-2010, they won 10 games just this year, seems about the same team.

Now carry on with the bashing.

If Randy Shannon had Duke Johnson in 09, we'd have played in a BCS game at minimum. Only game we still possibly lose is Va Tech.

If Golden did not have Duke johnson, his record over the last two years is probably 12-13.

So is the point here to bring back Randy Shannon? Bc I think we all know AG blows at this point. I mean, do we really need a "which unqualified coach is worse" thread?

I think it's more of a "why the guy with a worse record get a pass and the former player turned coach did not" thread. I'm sure it all comes down to "the cloud" though, so it's really a moot point.

/and when I say "the cloud" I am in fact referring to the recruiting prowess of one Lawrence Edward Coker.

Who is giving a pass to Golden? More than half the fans want him the fvck outta here. If Al backslides next year, he'll probably get fired too.

Shalala and the BOT. It really doesn't matter what the fans think. Thing is that Shannon did better and got fired sooner. Golden has regressed just as Shannon did, although their tenures are not really analogous. Point being, Shannon had a cloud, Golden had a cloud. Both performed so similar that if Shannon got canned, Golden should get canned. The difference between the two is that when a coordinator wasn't cutting it, Shannon had the balls to cut him loose. Golden seems to be too obtuse to realize that his BFF is killing our defense. The one aspect of our program that has traditionally been consistently above average (at its worst). Or not as bad as we've seen it under Golden.

Randy got fired after HIS FOURTH SEASON.
Golden just finished HIS THIRD SEASON.

I guarantee if Golden goes 7-6 with 3 kids committed in December of next year he will get fired too. Until then, wtf are you talking about? Randy didn't get fired after year 3. Smfh.

In what world did Randy do better? He had a worse record after the same amount of time. Al Golden failing doesn't mean Randy wasn't an absolute ******* joke; he was, and still is.

*** Biggest difference between Golden and Shannon:

1) Golden was smart enough to start the season with a soft schedule.
2) Golden knows how to sooth people with charming words after a loss.
3) Shannon's response to everything was always: "Well it's like i tell them guys, like anything else..."

At the end of the day, in the great US of A, if a man can communicate, he can keep his job longer. The proof is in the pudding.

I think too much is made out of his speech... If ESPN felt he spoke well enough then he spoke well enough... The guy spoke with a southern-dialect... He spoke well enough... Communication is just an excuse for people to direct their frustrations onto something... It's like we wanted to know why he was struggling and we pointed out his speaking skills...

Miami still didn't have a "winning" culture. We were losers, just not ot the extent we are now.

Randy Shannon inherited:
• A program that went 60-15 under Coker (80% winning pct)
• 3 BCS bowls (2 NC apperances), 2 Peach Bowls & 1 scrub bowl (win) in 6 years under LC
• A complete roster, recruiting relationships at a program he was already at (#1 class in first year)

Al Golden inherited:
• A program that had been 28-23 under RS. (54% winning pct)
• 0 bowl wins under the previous regime, including embarrassing loss to ND
• NCAA bombshell, a roster w/ no CB's, dreadful first recruiting class (zero visits a month before signing day)

OK. Did you miss the part that the coach before Shannon got fired? We were losers, just not the extent we are now. We blew the ACC two years in a row.

What is the point of comparing RS and Golden. Randy was a train wreck and Al looks like he is heading for the same thing. You win at Miami, you get HC in NFL. You lose at Miami, your career is done. Al is writing the closing chapters of his HC career entitled "I did it my way." or the subtitle "I did it all for Mark". Unfortunately for us, when the ncaa cloud went away, our program looked like the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew and Al's defense left the windows open.

I thought the "ZOMG WE LOST TO DUKE!!!!11111" nonsense would stop after the Chick Fil A bowl. I overestimated our fan base yet again.

Golden vs Shannon

AG has 1 more win in 3 years
AG earns more than a million more
AG lost to Duke, RS never did
AG has never beaten FSU, RS did
AG has never beaten a good (10+ win) team, RS has
AG has the worse defense in the ACC, RS hasd top 3 consistently
AG played the easiest schedule in Miami history in 2013 (Miami finished with 9-4 record)
RS played the most difficult schedule in 2009 (Miami finished with 9-4 record)

I will support AG- even though i am completely off his train..but this one thing I don't believe to be accurate.. there was one year I think in the late 80s where we played the champion of almost every conference..can someone help me out with this one? thanks

1988. Best team in the land, but we got screwed with the Cleveland Gary mystery fumble. We beat the SEC, Big 10, Big 8, and SWC champs. Those were the ******* days.

Eff you, Randy

Oh how I miss that lousy scoreboard, crummy PA system, decrepit bathrooms, front yard parking, and *** kicking atmosphere. This game however.....

what is amazing about that pic is Randy still had all our time outs left....

Maaaan I'm trying not to laugh when I see this punk *** pic but the time outs has me in tears.

Why would anyone call timeouts to prolong the most embarrassing loss in the stadium's history? Not calling a TO may have been the only correct decision he made the whole game.

ESPN currently employs Lou Holtz... Invalid point.

Shannon was not better than Golden. He helped bring the program down with Coker, then he made it worse as HC.

The antics that occured on his watch caused the NCAA "Cloud", remember.

The fact that we have to compare Golden to Shannon is of itself a bad sign, and that is all on Golden.

Golden sure hasn't shown much, in terms of recruiting, player development, game day coaching, preparation, or team improvement, and his record is poor, very poor.

But Shannon was the worst of all time, and one more season with him would have been the ultimate nail in the program's coffin.

At least Golden has the program in a state where a good coach could take off running with it. No doubt in my mind a good coach would have won the Coastal this season.

Serious question, why is Randy still a position coach 4 years after being fired as a HC?
Why isn't he a DC yet?

Stephen Morris did not develop at Miami. Name one aspect of quarterbacking that he developed to a consistent level that he didn't already show as a true freshman.

Fisch was a good hire but Coley has been a serious downgrade.

Lol@recruits read this stuff

nah man, they are too busy being teenagers to care what a bunch of crazies have to say on the internet.
