Saw This On Grassy

RS took over a program that was 25-12 the previous three seasons, was four years removed from a BCS appearance, five years removed from a title game appearance and six years removed from a national championship. Talent-wise, Shannon's first team had the following players (and still went 5-7):

Allen Bailey, Damien Berry, Matt Bosher, Calais Campbell, Graig Cooper, Antonio Dixon, Dedrick Epps, Jason Fox, Orlando Franklin, Tavares Gooden, Richard Gordon, Leonard Hankerson, Javarris James, Darnell Jenkins, Lance Leggett, Colin McCarthy, Eric Moncur, Derrick Morse, JoJo Nicolas, Adewale Ojomo, Kenny Phillips, Anthony Reddick, Darryl Sharpton, Sam Shields, AJ Trump, DeMarcus Van Dyke and Reggie Youngblood.

Miami still had a "winning" culture at the time, outside the disastrous 2006 year—7-6 ... Louisville logo stomp ... FIU brawl ... Pata murder ... four-game losing streak down stretch before miracle win over BC. Prior to that it was 9-3 and 9-3 before the four-straight BCS game era and the 46-3 run.

As for that "win" over Florida State in 2007, it's laughable that anyone would actually "credit" Shannon for that. C'mon now.

Outlasting a garbage 7-6 Seminoles team by some miracle play by Kirby "1-of-14" Freeman is hardly the same as Florida State 2011-2013 which Al had to face.

He also beat them in 2009, Chris.

And Miami still didn't have a "winning" culture. We closed out our 9-3 year the year before by blowing the coastal after being ranked #3 in the country, losing by 37 to LSU, and then firing basically half of our coaching staff. And the year before that we lost the de facto ACC title game at HOME. We were losers, just not ot the extent we are now.

Golden's first year team had plenty of top notch players and they didn't do **** because Golden sucks. In fact, the only time Golden fielded a somewhat competent defense and stayed within double digits of a very, very good team was with Shannon's players.

So far Shannon is better than Golden. And Shannon was pure garbage.

I'm not defending Golden here but who are those players? NFL draft paints a different picture

So is the point here to bring back Randy Shannon? Bc I think we all know AG blows at this point. I mean, do we really need a "which unqualified coach is worse" thread?

I think it's more of a "why the guy with a worse record get a pass and the former player turned coach did not" thread. I'm sure it all comes down to "the cloud" though, so it's really a moot point.

/and when I say "the cloud" I am in fact referring to the recruiting prowess of one Lawrence Edward Coker.

Who is giving a pass to Golden? More than half the fans want him the fvck outta here. If Al backslides next year, he'll probably get fired too.

Shalala and the BOT. It really doesn't matter what the fans think. Thing is that Shannon did better and got fired sooner. Golden has regressed just as Shannon did, although their tenures are not really analogous. Point being, Shannon had a cloud, Golden had a cloud. Both performed so similar that if Shannon got canned, Golden should get canned. The difference between the two is that when a coordinator wasn't cutting it, Shannon had the balls to cut him loose. Golden seems to be too obtuse to realize that his BFF is killing our defense. The one aspect of our program that has traditionally been consistently above average (at its worst). Or not as bad as we've seen it under Golden.

Randy Shannon did not have to recruit with sanctions hangiong over his head , Randy Shannon had a full compliment of players from day one on his roster every year. Randy Shannon di not have a plan or a clue as to how to coach, did nothing to promote the program in the community and was not wanted by any other program in the US. Randy Shannon is an assistant coach at Arkansaw for now, once his connections with South Florida fade he will be out of work

Eff you, Randy

That was more depressing and embarrassing then the Duke loss!!

This is the only game I left wondering If I had been transported to a parallel universe.

You're still there. Only thing missing is posterized skies & Jodi Foster looking for her dad.

The Florida State team that Shannon defeated in 2007 was 9th in the ACC in yards allowed per play at 5.13, and the 2009 Seminole team was historically inept on defense, allowing 6.75 yards per play for last in the conference and 116th out of 120 nationally.

As weak as we've been on defense recently, it's hasn't approached the depths Florida State reached at the end of the Bowden/Andrews era.

Golden has never faced a Florida State team that finished worse than third nationally in yards allowed per play.

Golden may mutter a lot of nonsense but at least he speaks capable English. I can envision recruits and their families being impressed with him. I have more confidence in him, period. Our upside is only so great in this stadium. I don't submit to a 100 year curse but I don't expect any titles until Sun Life has long been rubbled.

I’m tired of this bull**** Golden vs. Shannon comparisons! How anyone can make this comparison is beyond me. Here are a couple of key facts that were omitted:

1. Golden inherited way less talent in 2011 than Randy did in 2007
2. Golden dealt with NCAA investigation his first 3 years here.

Randy took over a roster that included 20 future NFL players including a 1st round pick, 10 draft picks, and 9 NFL Starters. Randy then got another 8 NFL players and 4 draft picks in his first recruiting class. That is a total of 28 NFL players on his 2007 team that went 5-7! You don’t believe me see the list below.

1st 1 Kenny Phillips S 6-2 210 JR

Golden got no one that was drafted in the first 2 rounds! Of the guys who left so far 8 were drafted but only 2 of those played for Golden more than a year. The rest either graduated or left early under the cloud of the NCAA investigation, many were suspended or injured in their last year at the U. He still managed a 6-6 record, one more win than Randy in his first year! His also got hired late in the recruiting season with less than 5 commitments and no official visits set up.

If you don’t think the investigation had an impact not just on recruiting but on the morale and development of the team than you can throw out this post.

If you are actually making an argument for Randy Shannon I just dont know what to say to your or for you.

There are honestly just not words.

I guess his years as D Coordinator giving us top defenses means nothing. Lmfao.

RS did not coach during NCAA sanctions. RS did not recruit well in UM. RS was and still IS a great CANE!! AG IS the coach at UM. Stop the fu{k^ng bashing already. Post something positively constructive. **** gets old already

Golden vs Shannon

AG has 1 more win in 3 years
AG earns more than a million more
AG lost to Duke, RS never did
AG has never beaten FSU, RS did
AG has never beaten a good (10+ win) team, RS has
AG has the worse defense in the ACC, RS hasd top 3 consistently
AG played the easiest schedule in Miami history in 2013 (Miami finished with 9-4 record)
RS played the most difficult schedule in 2009 (Miami finished with 9-4 record)

I will support AG- even though i am completely off his train..but this one thing I don't believe to be accurate.. there was one year I think in the late 80s where we played the champion of almost every conference..can someone help me out with this one? thanks

He said in 09 not all time

Randy Shannon put us in probation and treated recruiting like it was a burden. I'm no AG lover, but Randy Shannon was not a good coach.

*** Biggest difference between Golden and Shannon:

1) Golden was smart enough to start the season with a soft schedule.
2) Golden knows how to sooth people with charming words after a loss.
3) Shannon's response to everything was always: "Well it's like i tell them guys, like anything else..."

At the end of the day, in the great US of A, if a man can communicate, he can keep his job longer. The proof is in the pudding.

Didn't RS lose to Duke in the game where he said it was a really long walk to the stadium.

He never said that and he never lost to Duke... And to be fair, he faced better Duke offenses... Thad Lewis is probably the best qb in Duke history and the I forgot the qb that graduated last year... Jamison Crowder is a great wide out but those two wideouts from Miami were terrorizing defenses... They just played harder ACC opponents...

Al and RS are even and that shouldn't be the case because AL has experience as a HC...

2013: 47th

2010: 59th
2009: 68th
2008: 102nd
2007: 117th

The numbers don't support your theory.

Miami still didn't have a "winning" culture. We were losers, just not ot the extent we are now.

Randy Shannon inherited:
• A program that went 60-15 under Coker (80% winning pct)
• 3 BCS bowls (2 NC apperances), 2 Peach Bowls & 1 scrub bowl (win) in 6 years under LC
• A complete roster, recruiting relationships at a program he was already at (#1 class in first year)

Al Golden inherited:
• A program that had been 28-23 under RS. (54% winning pct)
• 0 bowl wins under the previous regime, including embarrassing loss to ND
• NCAA bombshell, a roster w/ no CB's, dreadful first recruiting class (zero visits a month before signing day)

and so the agenda comes to full fruition, cue the matt damon its not your fault goodwill hunting gif, we have reached the source of the pain
