Ryan Williams Hurt

A few things....

1. This injury is not a good thing. I don't care if you want Williams or Olsen (or someone else) to start. It doesn't hurt to have a healthy 5th year senior with game experience as a backup.

2. This now likely forces a decision rather than a natural decision. I prefer the starter (regardless of who it is) to separate themselves BASED ON PLAY and not because of an injury.

3. This now gives Golden an "excuse." Is this real life? Do the fans really think this? If Golden lays an egg this season, he is gone. This doesn't change his decision to keep his DC. He recruited Olsen, Kaaya, Rosier and Crow. He wanted all of these things, possibly not this quickly, but he wanted these players. Injuries are part of the game, we saw big ones last season (Duke Johnson), the season doesn't stop because of injuries.

There is plenty of time to prepare with Olsen as the QB. If your going to lose the starter better NOW (with 5 months before the season) than a week before the season. So everyone cut the bull ****.

Just win baby!

Define laying an egg. Because from where I sit that is going to have to be one giant egg to get him fired. An 8 win season he stays. Probably 50 50 if they win 7 he stays.

Use your imagination.

A young hotshot qb is what this program needed. Whether he pans out or not, we don't know but suddenly there is more excitement around the program and for the season. Obviously you don't want what happened to Williams, but olden should have been the starter for this team regardless of William getting injured IMO.

Why should he have been the starter? Have you been at the scrimmages? Are you tracking his numbers in practice? Watching his practice film?

The dude literally just got his **** together after being called out for not working hard and being suspended just a couple of months ago and left at home for a bowl game. So in 3 months, you think he should be the stater over Williams because of.....you have to take the opposite side of every Golden decision.

Your hate for Golden is clouding what little judgement you actually had left. You are more of a fan of hating on Golden (again, not a huge fan either) than you are of this team.
Oh noes I thought Olsen should start. Clearly its just an opinion.

I know seeing my posts rustles your jimmies but lets not turn this into a ****fest about how good you think Golden's *** tastes.

Good one. An opinion based on what?
If Golden would rather start a one legged Stephen Morris over Ryan Williams, then thats pretty telling. Olsen according to all reports has the tools. So I say let the young guy start, give the program a boost and lets see what happens. Clearly Golden has more info than any of us and will make the decision he believes gives the team the best chance to win and I hope those decisions are all correct.

Again, just an opinion.

So now you're trusting Golden's decision and basing your opinion off of a guy who you think is a terrible coach?

Now I see why you do nothing but whine and complain on this board, your logic is ****.

Well, this is why Olsen came here.

Remember him rustling some folks by looking at our QB situation on a visit and saying "I can beat these guys"? Well here's your chance kid. Losing Williams, regardless of your opinion of him, sucks. He is at the very LEAST a quality backup that looked to be improving by the week.

Olsen needs to be smart and I'm not sure he's capable yet. He's going to shine at times though.

Hold on to your butts.

I agree with everything you wrote except for this (in green)

There is no doubt in my mind that this injury will be used as the excuse for any shortcomings that the team has this season.

Not enough wins in the win column? "We lost our starting QB one week before the spring game".
Bad defense? "We lost our starting QB one week before the spring game".
Losing games we shouldn't? "We lost our starting QB one week before the spring game".
Poor execution on offense?(understandable) "We lost our starting QB one week before the spring game".
Poor special teams play?"We lost our starting QB one week before the spring game".
Lost some key recruits? "We lost our starting QB one week before the spring game".
Low attendance figures? ""We lost our starting QB one week before the spring game"
etc.....etc....etc.....

I can already see the whole thing. Facial expressions included. That fake look of incredulity that AG gives reporters when they criticize anything about the program. SMDH

Not looking forward to this season at all now. Because it no doubt will be another 'lost' season for UM.

The sad thing is most of you know, in your heart of hearts, that I'm right.

Unfortunately past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior and this staff has shown that they don't like holding staff members accountable for their deficiencies.

Spot on post, it's olsen's time to step and take the job .

All this excuse talk is hilariously stupid.

How so? If you would please elucidate us.

This thread has turned a bit toxic. Not that there's anything necessarily wrong with whats being said, I just think it's in the wrong thread. I would have expected to find the vast majority of comments being focused on wishing Ryan well, not whether the head coach will use this situation as a tool to sway public interest. (I'm not implying my opinion on the matter)

Sometimes us fans lose sight of the big picture. At the end of the day, Ryan is human being, not a pawn in a chess match. (That comment is referring to how some people see players -- as objects to be used in fulfillment of an end or goal)

I'm with you on this....good post!

Olsen was handpicked by Golden and a top 5 QB recruit in the country, and now he has five months to get Baby Jesus ready. I really don't see how even if he tried to use the injury as an excuse, that James would buy it if they ended up going 7-5 or 8-4.

The thread took it's natural course as to the long term implications of RW's injury. I simply commented.

I would have agreed with you, but Golden is a master of excuse making. If there is anyone out there that can finagle an excuse out of thin air, its Al Golden. Just wait and see.

People will start hating on Olsen right after his first 3 int performance. Which is more likely than not. Right now I sure hope he grows up in a hurry. He has the talent.
Last year before the season Morris was a 1st or 2nd round pick in many posters eyes. Then by game 4 he needed to be bench for Ryan Williams. By Spring Williams needs to move over and let Olsen take over. The same kid that was suspended for the bowl game. All I have to say to the people happy about Williams injury be careful what you wish for.

How about if we win 10-11-12 games?

Will you and all the other doom and gloom idiots be lining up to suck Golden's ****?
