Ryan Mayes to Miami Bat Signal Confirm

quincy wilson is a 4* with every coach after him and is a legacy kid would have commited= no offer
ryan mayes is a no* with one offer =offer
this is not a mistake if our coaches like what they see they offer.

Correct. Nobody goes to Krop to scout kids. Scouts were clueless.
 
Looks like a football player. Making plays all over the field on both sides of the ball.
Put on some muscle for D1 and you will be an impact player.
If he is a 5.0 what are the rest of the kids in those video highlights. It looks like he is at 1/2 throttle most of the time.

Agreed. Mayes also doesn't have any attitude problems. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't one reason we haven't gone after Wilson is because he's not open to playing a different position? Again, I could be wrong or thinking of some other player, but I think that was part of it.

Mayes looks solid, and he is coachable. Good pick up!

Ohio State just signed two players from Krop a few years ago...This might be enough to win the ACC but these not the caliber players that alabama and FLorida and georgia ...If its a means to an ends I understand..and Im cool with it.... Blackvern, come on man. Krop has had MAYBE 4 players in the last decade that have amounted to something. The two you named..LTs son, Brandon Taylor and one other cat his name escapes me. Thats the equal to Taravella or Coral Springs High. (yeah yeah I know. The school just opened in 96') But Erick Flowers played there and LEFT. You cant get seen at Krop and you know it.

If you are saying ALA and FLA only take 4 and 5 stars you know nothing about recruiting. I can remember a certain player last year out of Boyd Anderson named Eddie Jackson that ALA took and he wasnt even on anybodys radar outside of the "Shallow side" of FTL. And dont let me get on FLA.

Nobody is saying this kid is a super stud. But he has size, speed, likes to hit AND wants to be here. I have never been a fan of Patton. A 5'7.5 CB does you very little good when you are playing the big boys and I think his size is gonna hinder him. I dont care if he runs a 4.15. If he was 5'9 or 5'10 with long arms like Lammons that would suffice.

Moral of the post. Dont bash the kid just yet. He will get every opp now that he is at MNW to show what he can do against top level guys on a week to week basis.

Not every kid signed will be a great player. Lulz at writing a kid off before he even steps on to Greentree.

First its " we don't get any south florida kids.... were getting beat by other schools for south florida kids"

So we get south florida kids to commit and now its " they suck! have no stars!!"

Lets make up our fuc*ing minds people....

Start winning the games we should.... get the NCAA thing completely past us.....and these "big time" kids will stop playing games and commit... Like it or not we are still being heavily recruited against negatively..

Golden's camps are all about finding kids that ball out. Size, speed, athleticism and skills cannot be faked. Kids who show them off in camp are liable to get an offer. Mayes obviously did, and earned a schollie.

That works for me.

They're still young kids with plenty of time contribute and only heading into their 3rd Fall Camp.

Are you one of these guys that expects all of the players recruited to be 1st round players? Do you think that is feasible?

Actually, what I should ask is: Is this type of logic beyond your comprehension?

My theory on the star/ranking thing is this...

When it comes to South Florida, there's so much **** talent down here that it would be impossible to issue all of them a high amount of stars. I think the star system is more accurate when it comes to ranking kids from other areas but in South Florida it can't be skewed. I believe there's alot of kids down here that would be 4 stars if they played somewhere else. If the star/ranking system was a true measure of talent then there would be an over-whelming amount of 4/5 stars from South Florida. The "top 100" rankings would be so **** lopsided in favor of South Florida.

Just my opinion.

I can see how a kid from South Florida can go under the radar alot easier than a kid from another area of the country.

Absolutely true. See my post in another thread, I think it was the other Mayes thread. I think it was Bobby Bowden who said years ago how hard it was to find all the kids in south Florida because the schools were so big and there were so many kids. Besides, most of the national recruiting gurus lived elsewhere, California, or Illinois, or Texas, and never got to see south Florida kids. They just wrote about kids in their regions, or maybe they would write about kids somebody told them about. Kids who don't have phones usually don't have money to fly all over the country to go to camps and get noticed.

I've repeated many times the statement by a USA Today sportswriter who confided to me years ago that if they picked a true All American team, it would all be Texas, California and Florida, and nobody around the rest of the country would be interested.

I did look at part of this kid's video and he does seem to be faster than 5.0. I don't know that he's a burner but he did seem to run past some guys on some plays. I don't know what that means.

I guess these guys don't run 40's at AG camps, do they?

I've been watching the program for many years, and have seen a lot of kids come into their own their junior, or just their senior years. That doesn't mean they shouldn't have been recruited. We got one great year out of Cortez Kennedy. How many great years did we get out of Warren Sapp? I think maybe just two. (Kennedy was a Juco, to be fair).

I've seen too many highly recruited guys who never got off the bench: Anthony Lewis, Derrick Golden, Carl Walker. There were many others.

I looked at the Alabama commit list a few weeks ago and it is heavy with 3 stars. They don't land all 4's and 5's. The only team that seems to have done that in the past decade was USC. Why they didn't win more championships, I don't know. You can blame it on Jethro, I guess, since he was there.
