Ryan Mayes to Miami Bat Signal Confirm

Southeast recruitin analyst breakdown....

Miami (Fla.) Northwestern defensive back Ryan Mayes is a nice under-the-radar find based on his film. I wasn't at camp to see him in person for a new evaluation, but he flashes on tape.

He is long and athletic judging by his ability on the offensive side of the ball. Shows good football instincts. High points the ball. Uses his height to battle and defend against jump balls. Solid tackler. Nose for the ball and displays the ability to force turnovers.

Will chase and pursue down field. Not afraid to help in run support. Interested to see how he does at Northwestern. Doesn't look like a burner. More of a long strider that covers ground. Linear speed is a question mark based on his film. However, shows the ability to mirror and stay in the hip pocket of receivers down field.

Projects as a tall corner with the chance to slide over to safety down the road. He will receive a new ranking as soon as possible.

Blackvern, come on man. Krop has had MAYBE 4 players in the last decade that have amounted to something. The two you named..LTs son, Brandon Taylor and one other cat his name escapes me. Thats the equal to Taravella or Coral Springs High. (yeah yeah I know. The school just opened in 96') But Erick Flowers played there and LEFT. You cant get seen at Krop and you know it.

If you are saying ALA and FLA only take 4 and 5 stars you know nothing about recruiting. I can remember a certain player last year out of Boyd Anderson named Eddie Jackson that ALA took and he wasnt even on anybodys radar outside of the "Shallow side" of FTL. And dont let me get on FLA.

Nobody is saying this kid is a super stud. But he has size, speed, likes to hit AND wants to be here. I have never been a fan of Patton. A 5'7.5 CB does you very little good when you are playing the big boys and I think his size is gonna hinder him. I dont care if he runs a 4.15. If he was 5'9 or 5'10 with long arms like Lammons that would suffice.

Moral of the post. Dont bash the kid just yet. He will get every opp now that he is at MNW to show what he can do against top level guys on a week to week basis.

I looked at the Alabama commit list a few weeks ago and it is heavy with 3 stars. They don't land all 4's and 5's. The only team that seems to have done that in the past decade was USC. Why they didn't win more championships, I don't know. You can blame it on Jethro, I guess, since he was there.
Texas too

quincy wilson is a 4* with every coach after him and is a legacy kid would have commited= no offer
ryan mayes is a no* with one offer =offer
this is not a mistake if our coaches like what they see they offer.

Correction Mayes is a 3* kid per rivals. That should change a lot of the opposers minds I guess.

If this was January, I could see this being called a reach, but this early, it's the coaches doing their own evaluations and liking what they see.

Seems like we getting good players not great players... Dude might be good but he aint great. Lol at the dummies who say people dont go to krop .. Ohio State just signed two players from Krop a few years ago...This might be enough to win the ACC but these not the caliber players that alabama and FLorida and georgia ...If its a means to an ends I understand..and Im cool with it.... But yall acting like Golden didnt take skeptical players that are already on the team.. Larry Hope, Danny Dillard, Jacoby Brisccoe, HUnterWells This is a reach pick... yall can spin it like you want...Lets just hope it works out

What a profound statement!

Profoundly retarded.

the kids that signed to Oho State were...Sfl Express specials......Yup the same 7 on 7 team with the stars..well the guy Brett Goetz Or whoever who owns them was linked to OSU and thats where the big name interest came on Etienne Sabino. The other kid Howard i believe also...

Krop is off the beaten path...like i said i usually dont like their kids...because u could end up with Chris Rutledge types. Half of the people in Dade and Broward dont even know where that school is located. Ereck Flowers stays there and he goes to a Central Michigan/Rutgers type and blows up...he transfers to Norland and got**** the whole calvary is after him.

This kid is now at MNW. Will get some GOOD coaching...play against top notch comp...and we get the whole year to see him there against the Ermon Lane's, Devante Phillips etc.

Im going to compare this kid to a current cb on our roster Ladarius Gunter...and i think that is the spot their going to play him. A Boundary corner..

Which is the sad part. They will put three asterisks next to his name tomorrow morning and all of a sudden that means he can play.

I will say this much; if we are going to take guys that are under the radar so to speak, I'm all for making them be south florida kids. A ridiculous amount of kids from south florida end up being **** good performers in college. Now, am I saying that I don't want the bigtime 5 star talents? Not at all. What I do know is it seems like a good amount of kids from down south end up being **** good CFB players. I'll have to dig it up, but almost every year Bakas makes a post regarding kids from south Florida that were drafted, and also kids from south florida that made college all american teams. The names always amaze me.

And my post above doesn't even take into consideration Golden's penchant for hopping on guys, then all of a sudden all **** breaks loose and everyone and their momma ends up offering dude.

Maybe if The Don was the HC in 2005, we would have signed the unheralded kid from North Miami Louis Delmas, who wound up at Western Michigan where he starred and became a 2nd round draft pick. Or that kid who played CB and wound up at UCONN whose name escapes me. He starred there and got drafted in the 1st or 2nd round by New England a couple years ago. The examples are limitless.

Fans are too inept, for the most part, to remember how plentiful those examples are, and, instead, would rather let the dopey web blogger nerds with the star ratings do the recruiting for UM.

You mean that local bum db Darius Butler. How about that cruddy Javier Arenas from Tampa, maybe that kid could have come to a camp.

Maybe if these camps were around since 200x and they were properly run, we may have found them ot noticed they existed.

Find the best kids, sign them and develop them. This is simple.

Soo funny and soo true, alot of people still dont know where that school is. They get no support also which I guess isnt funny, I went to the Krop/Columbus PLAYOFF game and there was less than 10 people there to support the team, mind you there was maybe 30 players on the team and even the parents dont show?! And the only young decent talent they had/have from that game both transfer out (Javon to Jackson/Maye to NW).

I like in the video that he is very adept to zone coverages and knows who to cover and what to do, at MOST top Dade schools the corners NEVER learn this stuff and it puts them behind the curve at next level(could be why Tracy struggled a little?). Now playing at the west I am sure we will see how he holds up Pressing on Ermon and some of the counties best. Wonder if NW will have to put 2 corners on Ermon again.

*Also in his film you see Edourd, I think He strips Gray in the Carol City Portion, Love seeing these types of things as you can see other plays for those players and not just their highlights

ya...my girlfriend Graduated from there so i know where it is.lol

The crazy part is they have been making the playoffs every year..albeit in a lousy district but they seem to always make it. Just like u said they are usually a one man show type of team...The Durante's. And now they dont even have those guys as guys transferred out...

*This kid obviously was a staff find. Most of their big timers they didnt have go through all the drills...and word was the kid just competed in the one on ones..so he must of been a target BEFORE the camp and they just wanted to give the don one look at him competing.

I'll take under the radar guys ALL day as long as they have things that are natural...SIZE and SPEED...this kid is a plus size db...

Sorry y'all but based on film this kid is a mid-major type player. Decent speed, not very physical in coverage, no ball skills and he doesn't tackle that well in space. Okay lateral quickness and feet with the ball in his hands and he's a body catcher at receiver. 6'1-187 is good size for a CB, but other than that I don't see it. We'll see. Hope I get to eat a lot of crow...gotta trust Golden on this one

**** I hate being right all the time. Camp specials will kill a roster

This is like multiplying a negative times a positive and getting a negative . . .
