Ruiz stadium update

I understand the reservations regarding parking and transportation because I have them as well. But I think you underestimate the impact, if done well, this would have for the university and program. Even 3 miles from campus it's still for all intent and purpose an on campus. It's the closest most realistic site the city dictates.

We also have no idea the deal the University would get, it's all speculation. It could turn out to be pretty lucrative and another source of cash flow for the university and athletics. I have no idea what our deal is with HRS but I doubt we are getting any cut other than part of the revenue our games generate. This project could turn out to be a year-round stream of revenue. Ruiz would obviously get his fair share but I'd wager he'd give us a better deal than HRS.

If it's done right with things to do in the area I think that could mitigate some traffic because it would stagger the number of people arriving and when they arrive. A lot will get there really early for the sports bar and hang all day. Others trickling in later just for the game, etc. And this is only considering major sold out games. Lower ACC games probably won't be an issue.

Just wait for more information before jumping the gun on it being a positive or negative proposal. However you slice it, having "our own" stadium is more appealing to a lot of people opposed to renting HRS.

Edit: if the city really gets serious about it, a metro mover from the University stop would be quite nice.
This isn't even close to being "on campus". You are almost three miles away from campus, and unlike your typical college town, where you have college friendly businesses and residences for miles around, this isn't that.

Basically telling residents they can't use their park

Come on ... there are quite a few power 5 stadiums that are even below 50,000 capacity. Anyway ... if Ruiz is able to build it he is saying it will have more than 60,000 capacity ... which is what we have at Hard Rock. I drive 300 miles each way for UM games ... at Hard Rock. The extra 25 miles isn't a factor ... but the CONGESTION in those 25 miles is a huge factor. I can cover those 300 miles in 3.5 hours. On a Saturday it will take another hour with the crazy Miami traffic to get to Tropical Park. I normally grab a hotel in Fort Lauderdale on game day. Will have to change to a Miami hotel ... and maybe get one the night before just not to deal with the game day hassle. Whatever ... will believe it when I see it. Sounds like an amazing venue if it is ever built.
Not trying to be a smarts but which ones?

That is fair but seats are very far away from field and each other. This new stadium will be the complete opposite.

Right.

Hard Rock moved the CLOSEST seats...closer...but 95% of all the seating in Hard Rock is just as far away from the center of the 50 yard line as it has ever been.

That's not a knock on Hard Rock, it's just cold, hard architectural facts. I'm tired of hearing this myth about how all the Hard Rock seats are closer to the field now. It's a physical impossibility to do that.

While it holds slightly more than 50K, here's one that I was just in last year:

If the Ruiz Stadium is 65K, that is almost identical to the downsized Hard Rock.
Big if wouldn't you say at this point. But yes, if it were my project I would have a facility that could attract the OB. A better parking situation would help. Should be able to build a venue where seats are much closer to the field which would be a huge bonus over Hard Rock.

Fair enough. Respect for the season ticket history.

I live in Lauderdale and can be at HRS in like 15 mins and have zerooooo problem if we stay there (Stevie Ross' Gayturd pandering and Michigan allegiances aside).

I just think any issues with a Tropical Park stadium site from a fan's perspective are adaptable to and that us as Broward (and north) residents need to refrain from complaints since we've had it much easier for like 15 years now than people that actually live near or go to UM.
Bravo, good sir!

There are pluses to owning it - ****, The U could rent or lease the stadium to so many events and concerts and have another revenue stream…think big my friend, think big like Ruiz.
I get the argument, but do not forget the competition of other venues offering a space for those same events you are considering. The price can not be so low that it does not cover the additional costs incurred by the venue.

They knocked down the lower level stands on the North and South side just to add a few rows closer to the field and seat couches. The stadium is incredibly big and everyone is very far from each other. You notice we rarely get a whole stadium doing a "Let's go Canes" chant going like we always did in the OB? That is because nobody can hear the 2 or 3 sections next to you if you aren't paying attention.

I was talking about if we moved into the SEC.

How's Chapel Hill. I've never been.

But you responded to a guy who said there were several POWER FIVE stadiums under 50K. How is anyone supposed to know you just want SEC.

SEC numbers have been provided elsewhere on this thread.

Chapel Hill is great, and gives a fascinating insight into how UM could do MASSIVE alum tailgating on campus and then shuttle people to the stadium (assuming my brilliant Blue Road shuttle idea is pursued). We walked past huge and fancy alum/booster events set up at beautiful venues on a gorgeous campus, and it was truly impressive.

The stadium itself was meh.

But but but, 2017 Notre Dame.

I keed, I keed, but yes, Hard Rock is cavernous. The roof helps. But still...

"Crowd noise" and "atmosphere" are not identical attributes.

The issues concerning parking, travel, etc. are legitimate; however, do not let those concerns overshadow what potentially can be an incredible solution to develop a proper (not retrofitted) football stadium for our beloved ‘Canes.

We will NEVER have an on-campus facility. That is a pipe dream. Tropical Park is a realistic option that checks off most boxes and could represent a win-win for the University, its fans and Miami-Dade County.

My fault. I was responding to the wrong guy.

You are 1000% correct, nobody is going to walk. Although I would start the walk from the triangular exclamation point, because there are parking garages right there.

I have said this over and over again, the BEST shuttle service would be BLUE ROAD. You would need some additional construction on Blue between Ludlam and Tropical Park, as well as a bridge over (or a tunnel under) the Palmetto.

But Blue Road would go DIRECTLY to the middle of Tropical, where the stadium would be. You wouldn't have to contend with "normal" traffic on Miller or Bird.

Load up by the law school. North on San Amaro. Left on Blue. Put a cop at Red Road and another at Ludlam to wave the shuttles through. Figure out a way over or under 826 and drop everyone off RIGHT AT THE STADIUM.

This would be amazing
